Rhett thanks for what you said regarding how much more of a deal it is for a woman to take a surgical option for infertility. It's really important for you to model this kind of compassionate, reasoned approach to your audience. Thank you.

So many men would rather the woman go through with it when it is way easier for the man to get the procedure. You are wonderful husbands and great role models. Thank you for this episode!

Andrea Woods You say that like it's completely idiotic to want the reverse. "You should deal with the pain, because if I dealt with it instead it would be worse." Yeah ok, but at the end of the day someone is putting themselves in pain and we shouldn't be condemning someone for not wanting to go through with said pain just cause the alternative is worse for the other individual

I wish more men would view vasectomies as an option rather than a taboo thing. If both parties are willing to put in the work for making a baby, then both parties should be willing to get whatever procedure done to prevent more pregnancies. People are more than their reproduction organs. Getting a vasectomy doesn't make you less than a man. It makes you a respectable man.

The number of people comparing a vasectomy and an hysterectomy even after hearing what they said is just idiotic.
You do not have to be put completely under for a vasectomy, they were awake for it and it didn't last for even an hour, an hysterectomy requires general anesthesia, surgery lasts about two hours and more if there were complications, you get hospital time after, recovery may take months, it's permanent, and not forgetting to mention the sudden changes the body goes through when a hysterectomy is done.

It's not hard to Google.. you have a great day. Risks with vasectomy are few. No death has ever been attributed to this procedure. On the other hand, tubal ligation, a frequently performed surgical sterilization procedure in women, is associated with no fewer than 20 deaths per year. These deaths occur because of the risks of the procedure itself, anesthesia complications, and increased ectopic pregnancy rates.
Complications with vasectomy are usually related to bleeding or infection. Prolonged pain sometimes occurs as a result of inflammation along the vas due to sperm leakage (sperm granuloma) or congestion of sperm at the epididymis (epididymitis). These conditions usually go away with rest and anti-inflammatory medication.

Thank you both so much for your candor and for sharing your experience with us. Also, thank you for pointing out how a vasectomy is a far easier procedure than a tubal ligation. I made the choice to get my tubes removed for permanent contraception (and was very happy and willing to do so), however it is a full surgery that involves general anesthesia and not everyone is comfortable undergoing that. An in-office procedure with only local anesthesia is far less risky. So thanks again and cheers to being sterile!! 😁

I'm so happy Rhett and Link are standing advocates for vasectomies and similar procedures for men. Them speaking out about their own experience can help men get a wider understanding for reproductive health for both men and women, and lets other men know it's safe and noninvasive to take birth control into their own hands. It's even cooler that they went together. Love this

All it takes is for the bacteria to enter a cut or opening and "gain the upper hand" so to speak. It probably means the surgeon or someone in the room contaminated the surgery site.

The odds of a man having any serious complications from a vasectomy are about the same as the odds of a woman dying from a tubal. Not only is the male option safer, easier, cheaper, less painful, and reversible, it's even more effective. The alternative methods of long term birth control are all on women, and require either implanted objects which can cause horrific periods, infections or rejection, or hormones that can lead to blood clots and strokes. If a vasectomy fails, there is a pregnancy. If a tubal fails, there is a potentially deadly tubal pregnancy.
Not only is vasectomy the best option for a committed monogamous couple, it's the only reasonable option. Men can even freeze their sperm to be used via artificial insemination later, allowing for a no-surgery pregnancy. Men have COMPLETE control over their fertility if they only ask, yet I've begged for a tubal for 6 years and have been denied. Proud of you two for doing this, but it honestly just reminds me of the choices I'm not "allowed" to make.

Not conplete. My dad couldn't get one for years. He had two kids, but was too young according to the doc, and he may "change his mind". It is not always easy for a young man to get a vasectomy, this is a myth.
Also, vasectomies are not meant to be reversible.
But if you can do it, and should do it, DO IT.

I had an English teacher in high school who had to have a hysterectomy, and she hated the aftermath so much. She always felt tired, she had to take medication daily and there was intermittent pain too, I think. Good on you guys for stepping up! And thank you for filming it, it was hilarious :P

THANK YOU , RHETT !! I had my 2nd child with my ex-husband when I was 21 years old , and he talked me into getting my tubes tied because he said he didn't want anymore children , and like a fool , I listened ... fast forward to now , and I am happily married to a man who has no biological children , and I can't give him one .... my ex-husband , on the other hand , has had two more children with two separate women ... it is permanent for women ( for the most part ) , and if you do have a reversal it can cost $20,000 ... if you are a man who thinks that the don't want anymore kids , have a vasectomy instead of asking your partner to get it done , it is much easier , less invasive and is easily ( and cheaply ) reversible if you change your mind down the road ...

Just make sure not to wait for too long to have it reversed! My dad had it done because his then-wife said she didn't want kids but then she changed her mind 10 years later so he had it reversed but it was too late. His sperm count was still 0. Luckily they had frozen some of his sperm just in case and I got two little sisters
