    This is the first time I watched one of your videos, you were making bezels for stones. Being that I've been making jewelry for more than 40 years ,I learned a few tricks .🙂 I see that you were soldering the sheet silver to the bezel on a soldering block. Which is fine ,but I have found that when your trying to solder the sheet to the bezel it is possible to reopen your joint on the bezel. To make that not happen ,take the sheet and clamp a corner in your 3rd hand flux the sheet set the bezel on top of the sheet ,drop the solder inside the bezel pushing it up a long the insides of the bezel .then take your torch and heat the bottom of the sheet. The solder will flow and most of the heat is away from your solder joint on the bezel it self.🙂🙂🙂🙂

    • @BraedensCrystals

      Koni N Yes exactly! If the two pieces of metal aren’t touching, the solder wont flow onto the joint and bind it together

    Hi!!!! I’m obsessed with your videos because you’re such a PHENOMENAL teacher! So easy to follow! One question... what size bezel strip do I get to start out? Like what’s the general size that fits most stones? 5mm?

    • @BraedensCrystals
      @BraedensCrystals  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually buy 28ga x 3/32" bezel since I use small cabochons, but yes 3/16" (about 5mm) is also great for ring sized stones. Just make sure to sand the height of the bezel wire down if it's going to be too tall for the stone. Let me know how it goes!

    you did a great job with showing how to do this. I am impressed.
    I am an old lady
    and just started to learn about this, because I want to make it a hobby. :)
    Are those bezels wires and that metal sheet that you cut with scissors made with silver?
    I want to practice with some inexpensive metal sheets, silver is too expensive to practice on, I saw someone using aluminum bezel and sheet. What type of solder would I need to use to attach the aluminum bezel and sheet cut out?
    where do you buy your bezel wires and soft sheet of metal, silver?
    sorry so many questions! thank you in advance. Thank you!

    • @BraedensCrystals
      @BraedensCrystals  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use all sterling silver but I highly recommend using brass or copper to practice. Brass is how I learned and it’s easy to work with and cut. I’ve always used sterling silver solder (hard,medium, and easy tempered). I find it is the least noticeable metal solder to use and blends with every color metal nicely. I get my metals off of etsy shops that are based out of the US, ill try and link some below this comment for you ❤️ Good luck in your jewelry adventure!! So happy to help

      flux, it also comes in a paste. It's essential for solder to flow, creates some sort of chemical reaction that initiates solder to attach to the other metal. It also helps protect the metal from tarnishing under heat.

    Ok I have yet another question for you... I tried soldering today and it just bubbled and turned blackish grey. It didn’t flow whatsoever. I have flux and paste solder. I have no idea what I’m doing wrong. Any thoughts?

    • @BraedensCrystals
      @BraedensCrystals  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've seen a lot of issues with solders not flowing. It is most likely the type of solder, anything from craft stores I've never gotten to work right. Id recommend buying a set of sterling silvers solders. My favorite is www.etsy.com/listing/230935526/solder-silver-wire-ex-easy-easy-medium?ref=yr_purchases from MyJewelrySupplyy on etsy. It could also be an issue with the flux if your confident with the solder quality. The flux is very important because it enables the solder to flow, my favorite is Aquiflux www.amazon.com/dp/B074P5LPWS/?ref=idea_lv_dp_ov_d . If that doesn't work let me know! Make sure the solder is touching both pieces of clean metal and also has flux on it ❤️
