so glad to see you react to this omfg. poppy is my fav, i really enjoy all the sounds i hear that have nostalgia, i heard bits of evanescence, avril lavigne, deftones (specifically surviving on defiance), the title track reminds me so much of celebrity skin by hole too. you can tell she really takes inspiration and knows her references ❤
This is my favorite poppy album by far, I love this kind of music, and you can clearly hear all the new influences she had for this album, and as a bad omens fan, this is such a treat! Also I'm glad you took your time to rest and get better :) 10:10 don't know if you know them or not, but bad omen's The Death of Piece of Mind album is just like that! (especially in songs like Nowhere To Go or IDWT$) 21:20 yeah, it sucks that antidepressants usually make that kind of reaction, and although is fairly common for them to work, the effects aren't as strong as most people would expect, taking so long to even be possitive. And still some people get prescribed up to 3 different antidepressants, without getting a possitive impact, it such a difficult field on medicine :(

I think the thing that Poppy makes her own is that the meaning of what she is up to is so abstract, and the mixture of influences in each song so great, that everyone hears something different or picks up a different meaning. Many of these songs could be about escaping or dealing with abuse, addiction, trauma or could even be about a religious experience. She's reminds me of David Lynch's approach, where something can go from being accessible, to unexplainable, to unsettling, to avant garde, to downright traumatic and back in moment. The transition from Crystallized to Vital is stunning, and I love the way the album collapses into "the Centre's falling out", then bounces back to "Hey There" is fantastic. It's quite an audacious album, especially choosing to finish on "Halo"- there are also so many weird little touches to it all.

Girlie I just discovered you and live for your reaction album choices! If you like Arca's Arca I suggest Ugly Season by Perfume Genius. It's one of the most underrated albums ever imo and has that same queer fragility.
