as someone with 0 music knowledge who runs off of 'oh this sounds good' and 'oh this doesnt' i understood your chord by chord explanation but the tension graph really had me like 'OHHHHHHH I GET IT', super cool stuff ty!
Debutante Ball is definitely my favorite song from the album and one of her best songs in general. I love the focus on her vocals and the great composition. And the fact that she wrote the lyrics herself blows my mind.
wii-wii-woo and Template are much more in line with the type of genre I enjoy, but there's genuinely something so special about this song, the fact that it's nearly 6 minutes long and not a single second feels wasted or skippable. Plus that BASS.
Thank you for the reaction! This is my favorite song in the whole Specter album as well. The reason it might have felt more heartfelt is most likely because out of all the songs in the album this was the only one that she actually wrote the lyrics for. Looking forward to future Suisei song reactions!
and she's singing a lot about the darkest times in her own experience, the song is all about living a monotonous lonely day-to-day and just desperately hoping for some miracle to save you from life which is pretty much how she felt before managing to make it as a vtuber
I am so glad you enjoyed the song as much as every hoshiyomi did! Your breakdown on the tension graph was the highlight for me for this video, just the way you unpacked the song and broke it down to its core and why its so great. Thank you! Edit: Just wanted to say that Debutante Ball is definitely my favorite song in Specter. So having the song broken down in such a beautiful way made it even more special for me. ☄☄☄
ALllllll my music spidey senses were tingling on this one, it was so worth doing that break down. I'm so happy there are others who appreciate DB for what it is 😊
Suisei wrote the lyrics for Debutante Ball herself, which explains why her singing sounds so raw and emotional and heartfelt, more so than most of her other songs. When you actually read into the lyrics it becomes clear that the song is a commentary on her journey and status as an idol- the feeling that everything she has is just a “magic spell” that might come undone at any second when the internet moves on from the fad known as vtubers. It’s such a wonderful piece of art, so bittersweet yet touching. Thanks for your wonderful analysis of this masterpiece :) easily one of her best songs
LETS GOOO! Ever since I've found your channel around a year ago I've been praying for you to react to this song, and you absolutely delivered. It is my personal GOAT, and I knew from your tastes that you would love it as well!
I really love Debutante Ball... It just so peak for me, and that She fully wrote the lyrics for this song iirc. With Suisei's singing here, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Her original song tied with Deco*27, Planetarium which she also performed live during HoloFes2023
Your piano rendition made me realize how very much I need an acoustic rendition of Debutant Ball with just Suisei and piano accompaniment. Great video as always!
I think the translated lyrics adds to RC's analysis. Especially how the low tension verses sing about every day life and the spicy chorus and bridge are about magic, dancing, and wishing for an extraordinary life. TL is by Ragna on the Suicord. Empty palms and a clear gaze I want to surrender myself to this boisterous fantasy Turn my back on this space now and in the time until the sun rises let me dance aimlessly Even if an insignificant kind of tommorow arrives Give me magic that lets me live while wearing a smile I have a kind of heart that cannot be filled Cast magic which does not unravel that pours out of lightheaded extraordinary days Alone in the middle of the bustling neon city the outstretched steps that almost make my stilettos break Step into this city now and in the time until the sun rises let me dance indistinctly An unchanging kind of tomorrow has arrived My fingertips quietly cut through the air the usual morning glow Cast magic which does not come apart that pours out of the extraordinary days which my empty heart always desired The debutante highlighted by headlights The rough, partially cracked asphalt stage The drama before midnight still does not begin Magic please Cast magic so I can shed my smiling face and live throw off fate and cast the magic which does not come apart that pours out of extraordinary days which my heart that cannot be filled always desired Cast the magic which does not unravel
This song is definely one of the best Suisongs. While Suirock is awesome, she is just so good with soft songs, 3h12' and her cover of Deep Coma are great examples, they are just too pleasing to the ears while extremely emotional.
Before this video, Debutante Ball was just another song on the album for me. After watching this is my favorite. Yeah I'm easily manipulated like this 😅
I just stumbled on your channel by accident today searching for a deep dive reaction for this song, and I am satisfied. I love this song so much and I was just smiling the whole time watching your video. Thank you so much. Now I shall watch more of your reaction vids. (I hope you can get to react to AZKi's song: Inochi, it made Suisei cry while singing it :))
just an average audience who does not know music while loves suisei i really enjoy listening to the analysis and try to understand but not understand 80% of it (or maybe i really enjoy seeing someone who loves suisei's song too) Thank you for the great videos and hoping you might be interested to Tokoyami Towa's songs/album too someday
When I first listened to Next Color Planet a few years ago I instantly knew Suisei was special and when I first listened to Debutante Ball the day Specter dropped I cried. Suisei is IMO the best singer in Japan currently.
Speaking of emotional suisei songs, I'm interested in hearing your thoughts about Planetarium. Debutante is my favorite song on Specter too, but I kinda like Planetarium even more.
My thinking is Sui tends to put a bit of professional distance between the girl behind the avatar and her branding. DB is probably the most personal song she sings, so it makes sense that she chose not to promote it the way she did for Michizure and Soiree. An Ayase song brings opportunities and Soiree is a more marketable Jpop song. The real crime is how neglected Maintenance Song is.
@@sixthwind Though DB is without a doubt most personal song in Scepter and it is quite possible some of her older songs could match or exceed it (though perhaps this is simply nostalgia talking). Other songs of personal importance include Tenkyuu (she is not listed as lyricist for it but it was the most important for her earlier on, she sang it in multiple 3D lives for a reason), NCP (an important turning point/milestone of being in Hololive proper, getting 3D, finally starting to see significant success) and Ghost (also a song with an important message of how skills/successes of vtubers are ignored because vtubers are looked down on for simply being vtubers) (also Stellar Stellar, it is the big showpiece like Michizure/Soiree but is aso a song she contributed lyrics of and the message of being the prince who acts rather than cinderella waiting for rescue is a big one Suisei returns to in several different places). More Maintenance Song/Comet-chan content would be divine (speaking of which, I wonder how Ravenclaw would react to it lol).
@@sixthwind honestly I don't think so, i'm not talking just about how she didn't release a single or something, but how she doesn't even mention its existence just like with aseta hanamidori, no performance in a random karaoke, nothing. if i'm not mistaken, it's just those two + true girl show that have never been even mentioned after her first sololive. and yes we need her to bring back comet-chan
It is interesting that this is the one she wrote but Michizure was the one that is the most prominent with it being featured in the First Take and getting an MV without being a single. I guess she was using the Ayase name recognition or something.
@@gokbay3057 I think that was the reason too. Ayase and YOASOBI overall has broken into mainstream media for japan for awhile now and their first take projects only help even more to spread it worldwide. So now you have Suisei, first vtuber ever to do it regardless of how great she is. Vtuber music is still a niche when put against the world so they need Ayase's name to help get that across for a small percentage and then let her talent and skills pull them into this new genre by itself. That obviously worked out in the long run as we got Cali and Suisei now doing songs for legit anime projects.
Just because I tend to prefer much higher energy songs, Debutante Ball isn't my most listened to on the album, but it is very cool. And it's interesting to see the breakdown of the song, like always.
as someone with 0 music knowledge who runs off of 'oh this sounds good' and 'oh this doesnt' i understood your chord by chord explanation but the tension graph really had me like 'OHHHHHHH I GET IT', super cool stuff ty!
You have no idea how glad I am to hear that - getting the peaks and troughs to line up exactly was a surprising slog 😂

And you are very welcome!

I have been waiting for this since the release of the album. This is also my favorite and I want to know why I love this song so much

I love when the lyrics are in perfect sync with the music. Thank you!
The song is so soulfull! I wish she sang this on First Take.
God, yes. Debutante gang, rise up.

I swear Debutante Ball gave me Houseki No Kuni vibes the first time I heard it.
Debutante Ball was composed by producer におP / NOA
i love the muddy nostalgic feelings i get from his songs
Composed, you mean. Suisei herself wrote the lyrics.
@@Sm694-newone ohh ty! i've changed it, i love suisei's lyrics too
by far definitely my favorite in the album, was looking forward to this analysis video the most! great job as always!

Empty palms and a clear gaze
I want to surrender myself to this boisterous fantasy
Turn my back on this space now
and in the time until the sun rises
let me dance aimlessly
Even if an insignificant kind of tommorow arrives
Give me magic
that lets me live while wearing a smile
I have a kind of heart that cannot be filled
Cast magic which does not unravel
that pours out of lightheaded extraordinary days
Alone in the middle of the bustling neon city
the outstretched steps
that almost make my stilettos break
Step into this city now
and in the time until the sun rises
let me dance indistinctly
An unchanging kind of tomorrow has arrived
My fingertips quietly cut through the air
the usual morning glow
Cast magic which does not come apart
that pours out of the extraordinary days
which my empty heart always desired
The debutante highlighted by headlights
The rough, partially cracked asphalt stage
The drama before midnight still does not begin
Magic please
Cast magic
so I can shed my smiling face and live
throw off fate and
cast the magic which does not come apart
that pours out of extraordinary days
which my heart that cannot be filled always desired
Cast the magic which does not unravel
This is definitely the most out-of-place song in the entire album, and watching you fall in love with it was so enjoyable
Glad to finally hear your analysis of this song! Great breakdown and explanation for someone like me who know little about music.
Definitely best song of the album imo.
Oh btw it’s spectacular when she performed this in her 2nd sololive.
The part about the 'most comtemplative chord' as you call it, near the end, was mindblowing. Music is awesome!
This song is definely one of the best Suisongs.

I can't wait for the reaction video on Soiree. Debutante Ball and Soiree are my favorites from this album.
Love this song so much.
Emotional Suisei is best Suisei
Andromeda, Ghost, Debutante ball 💙

12:51 now that is a simple, concise, and meaningful explanation
awesome vid as always, i love this song so mellow and relaxing. I also want you to react to Elizabeth Bloodflame so bad
I usually don't like slowish songs that much, but this one is really full of sentiment. I really enjoy it.
Speaking of emotional suisei songs, I'm interested in hearing your thoughts about Planetarium. Debutante is my favorite song on Specter too, but I kinda like Planetarium even more.
Planetarium is really good and quite unique for a Hololive (or even Vtuber in general) song, so I would love to see Ravenclaw analyse it as well.
With the amount of music knowledge I learned from u I think I'm pretty confident that I can get a solid 20/100 if u gave me a test 🗿
Ayyy my fav Suisei song
This song is my top1 from the album too. It is just too good. The only recent song that come close is Planetarium.
debutante ball is so incredibly goddamn good, it makes me so sad that both it and aseta hanamidori are kind of neglected by suisei herself...
