My irritation is with the pronunciation of -ing for most Cali accents. I won't get too technical here (even though I'm a big linguistics nerd), but instead of pronouncing -ing in the back of their throats (like if you pronounced si*ng*), or with the vowel in "kit" and simply the "n" sound (like -in' as in singin'), it's more like -een (like in keen or seen) as the pronunciation of -ing. It's a sound I don't like. No offence to you, of course. And so many people outside of Californians copy this lmao
@@BreadLoeuf for me it's people who get "then" and "than" mixed up because some people keep being lazy about talking and sound like they're saying "then" and now a good majority everywhere they just say "then" now when trying to compare something so instead of "less than or greater than" they use "less then or greater then" and it's honestly infuriating

Yeah I know what they mean. I'm not exactly from NY I'm from DC. East coast in general here we are more fast paced and nobody smiles lol(that's not always good I know) So when I went to work in Cali for a while everyone was waaaaaay too laid back and it frustrated me. San Diego to be exact. It did help me to kind of get some balance cause I tend to go too hard on things alot
I got something you can go hard on mm mm mm I'll get you to smile and help you find some balance ⚖️ it may be a little rough and shaky at first but you'll learn to love it whether you like it or not mmmmmmm
The difference between those cities is just the climate. LA is laid back and chilled because its always warm and sunny. NY is uptight and fast paced because its always cold and a concrete jungle.
It’s all about the climate and city vibe. LA has a chill climate, more open areas, so everyone is more relaxed and talks slower, no sense of crazy rush. New yorkers are constantly rushing, moving around, space feels closed up because of all the buildings, traffic, winter is mad cold so there’s a need to talk faster and unfortunately, everybody is busy and nobody stops to acknowledge strangers.
I'm from California one of my friends in high school had recently moved from NYC. I eventually met his whole family, they had me over for dinner. It was the most aggressive and loud dinner I've personally had. He was a cool guy.
Doesn't it give you anxiety when they speak so fast and in-your-face?! There's a woman from England that I like a lot, I've called into her podcast before. One day, she was talking about things that annoy her, and slow speaking was one of the things she brought up. She's like, "I don't have time for people who speak too slowly. I need them to just spit it out or I'm done". I'm 35 years old and I literally only heard of slow speaking being annoying to people, just this year! I was shocked! People who talk too quickly and forcefully puts me on edge. I want them to chill out. 😂

That's so true. I'm from Cali and like to take my time pronouncing my words. No urgency. Which makes people think I'm constantly high 😂

To invite engagement: Uptalk can signal to listeners that the speaker is open to their input and that it's okay to ask questions or disagree.
To prevent interruptions: Uptalk can indicate that the speaker has more to say and doesn't want to be interrupted.
To come across as humble: Uptalk can make the speaker sound more personable and humble, and it can invite the listener to offer their own opinion.
