How much better is an mt-0 compared to an mt-06. Is the geometry the same?

Cool video. Had one of these bikes. The Mavic stuff was nice but the cranks were flexy and the rear aluminum axle would break or bend because this was pre free hub. I really liked the Suntour shifting. The Dia Comp brakes were terrible. There used to be an ad in magazines showing the Taiwanese welder that made these frames. It was the first frame hand made there. All in all, I have fond memories of this bike.

Agreed, I haven't ridden the cranks but have a set on my Titanium mountain bike that was made in Whistler in the early 90's, I hope they aren't too flexy since finding a bottom bracket for those cranks was challenging, 127mm axle length is hard to come by for a 73mm shell width and the chainstay clearence is still tight, like 2mm, yikes. That plus your comment on the rear axle is so relevant freewheels and MTB's ridden aggressively even by light riders is a recipe for bent axles. Mavic rear hub axles and others bent, Ringle held up and Philwood hubs were ok as well. However as Ringle hubs have aged the hub flanges have started cracking, a friends cracked while he was sitting at his computer he heard it from across the room. Sometimes it can be related to radial lacing or high spoke tension but I believe it is not enough material, aluminum alloy or hardness since Shimano, Suntour and Campagnolo from the same ear do not fail in the same way. He's single so there are bikes in every room, my partner just puts up with it.. so far. Pineapple Bob I believe was the welder you were refering to, a disappointing omission from the video. Thanks for watching, sorry for the late reply and writing a novel as a response!

Noticed the GTI Rabbit wheels :) I have MB-1, 2, 3, 6. 16v GTI. Men of Taste! Picked up the MB-1 recently. Has cheap replacements for wheels. I think I’ll find used or build new ones. Ideas? Nice vid.

If you can find a decent set of Mavic 231's built on whatever hub just get them, Wolber AT18, Mavic 231 and 117 are petty much my favorite rims to build with from that era. Thanks for the compliment, Bridgestone really is an analogue for the simplicity and practicality of the Golf. Good luck on your search for a wheelset! I have a video on some of the resources I still have for calculating spoke including a Mavic spoke length poster. I can include a link if you are interested. Cheers!

@@djkenny1202 28 hole can be acceptable depending on rider weight, I would recommend a V section rim like the Mavic 117 I cannot think of an other analogue since that rim was released after Mavic's parent company Salomon Group bought Wolber.
