I was really impressed with the level of detail on which the world is created. There is an entire chapter devoted to the design of the "femalephoid", a creature with the torso of a woman and the upper torso of a dinosaur, which is very interesting and a great reminder of how well the author knows his genre. The description of the world is also extremely well done, which again reminds me a lot of the style of Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land.
There are also some interesting aspects of the writing that really made me enjoy the book. The book contains the most extensive and accurate treatment I've seen of the issue of sexual orientation in science fiction, which I thought was a great addition. I particularly appreciated that the author goes into some of the social dynamics of interspecies relationships in more detail than just
