  • Dressed for comfort on this frosty Wednesday, this was to be the first flight of 2022. Before School reopens, William Worrell (P1) and JP Smith make their third attempt to EIWF Waterford Airport. Today's original plan was Navan to Waterford (as filed). Aircraft was available from 1200 UTC so direct Waterford would mean Waterford Zone/ATC closed for lunch. I wanted to fly to Kilrush, have a cuppa tea and take a quick toilet break before doing the next leg to EIWF.
William wanted to go to Weston first. William was flying so Weston it was. JP drew the short for the €25 landing and cuppa tea. It was a busy day and we sat out the FISO's well deserved lunch break, departing at 1340. In the next part we fly, Weston to Waterford, as far as Carlow, and William decides he wants to skip Waterford and take the scenic route home. Waterford ATIS was CAVOK and our ETA EIWF was 1430, all was in order. Willie figured we hadn't time to land and swap over to be back in Navan at 1600. Anyways, we played it safe and headed on home in case of ground fog etc. When we got in our cars at 1600 it was still clear and bright, the sun would soon set and Rhys was heading off in the Zlin for some Aero's. We had ample time to fufill the mission but will try another day please God.

Thanks Noel. There is a story and learning outcome to practically every flight and this one without exception.
