Life in the UK Test: do you want to pass first time? If so, this video series covers everything you need to know to pass the test. I go through the official UK government handbook on the UK citizenship test, and the 3rd edition Life in the UK book, and highlight what you need to know. OK so in this video we're going to cover Chapter 3 of the official Life in the UK test book for 2021. This is called 'what is the UK'. I'm going to deal with the points people struggle with. Stick around to the end of this video, where I go over some example questions from the Life in the UK tests on this topic, including some of the more tricky ones.
Before we get to the example questions in the Life in the UK test for British citizenship, let's go over together the relevant section of the official guide. This sets out what the UK government expects you to know for the Life in the UK test in 2024.
The key points that people struggle with in answering the questions in this part of the Life in the UK test are understanding the different countries that make up the UK. So here are some example questions you may get:
True or false?
The pledge at the citizenship ceremony is:
I will give my loyalty to the United Kingdom and respect its rights and freedoms. I will uphold its democratic values. I will observe its laws faithfully and fulfil my duties and obligations as a British citizen.
The answer is 'true'.
True or false? The United Kingdom is made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The answer is 'true'
True or false? The official name of the country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain.
The answer is 'false'. The official name of the country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
True or false? 'Great Britain' refers to England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
'False'. 'Great Britain' refers only to England, Scotland, Wales. It does not refer to Northern Ireland.
True or false? The Channel Islands and the Isle of Mann are islands closely linked to the UK but not part of it.
'True'. These have their own governments and are called Crown Dependencies.
True or false? St Helena and the Falkland Islands are British Overseas Territories.
True
They are linked to the UK but not part of it.
True or false? Scotland, Wales and Northern Island have parliaments or assemblies of their own with devolved powers in defined areas.
True
And the whole of the UK is governed by the Parliament sitting in Westminster.
So I recommend you memorise the different countries that make up the UK and listen again to this very short Chapter within the Life in the UK Test book (3rd edition).

I passed my exam yesterday. After I have read the book, I started watching Tom’s video series. One video per night. It helped me remember the important bits and pieces and was very useful in my exam. Thank you for your informative videos. Great help!

I was told that at the actual test; you will only get questions related to where you live? Example:
If you live in England; your questions will be related to test area. Likewise, if live in Scotland your
questions will be mostly related to that area. If this True or False information please?
Others say all questions will be found in Life in UK sample Tests 1 - 15 only and not from 16 - 40.
I'd appreciate conformation so I'm not trying to remember everything; as I'll be setting myself up to fail.
At 58 I need to / and I'd rather remain totally focused to learn what's absolutely need to learn for Test.
Thereafter test I can then educate myself on everything else in sample test questions not needed.

I'm tunisian been living in england for 5 years and now i need to do the life in the uk test so i been watching your videos to get ideas about it and see what i need to get ready for. If i learn everything that you are showing on your videos and practise all questions you have on them would that be enough for me to pass the test or do i need more things like books to practise more ? I have lived in the UK off and on for a sum total of 20 years. I am now taking this test to obtain permanent leave to remain. Other than the fact that the law requires one to pass this test, I want to say that very little of the tested information will be of value to you as far as living in the UK goes. Where Charles the II went after he was defeated in Ireland in 1690 is hardly relevant information. It is more important to know things like the definition of words that are used in other English speaking countries but mean something different here such as torch, pants, bonnet, boot and suspenders as well as words that are not used elsewhere such as loggie, dreak, brollie and pram. It would also be helpful to know facts like there are no drive through ATMs and very few drive through services. Car parks generally have only one inlet/outlet and parking spaces are designed for one the tiniest of cars. When a fast food restaurant has a drive through there is only a 50:50 chance it will be working. When living in the UK never be far from an umbrella (brollie) or a raincoat. When this books says a quality of British people is the ability to laugh at themselves this is misleading. What they really mean is that you must have the ability to laugh at yourself but never, ever, make fun of a Brit. Basically, this test is a waste of your time other than being an immutable step in obtaining a visa or citizenship.
Guys l don't wanna lie to you if you really wanna pass this test listen to all Tom's video and do practice with other videos.lt only took me 3weeks practising with these videos and guess what? I spend 7mins to do the exam coz all the questions were from these videos.THANX TOM YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB MAN.GOOD LUCK TO ALL THOSE WHO ARE TAKING THEIR TESTS.
