    !!Great Tutorial!!
    Had to put the sound file in the home directory for it to work. It seemed to fix the "no such file or directory" errror.
    AWESOME WORK!!
    Keep it up bro, much more people appreciate your work, than those who dont

      Hmmm... Yeah that's weird. Have you tried looking at your startup applications to make sure it didn't some how get removed? Or make sure your script is in the right place. Or you may have uninstalled mpv by mistake.

    you can't move it from the desktop into a folder opened in Files because Files and the Desktop are completely different processes from each other.

    This is the second tutorial I have followed step-by-step and, like 97% of the things I have attempted in the terminal... it just won't work! I am 63, thick-skulled, and just can't seem to grasp commands in the terminal. Thanks for trying, but if it isn't GUI, it won't get done on my PC running Ubuntu 22.04 Plasma.

    • @jrtechsoftware
      @jrtechsoftware  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry my tutorial didn't help! Try looking around in your settings to see if you can find something that will work. I haven't run Plasma in a while, I don't remember if there was a specific setting in there.
      Unfortunately this is a bit of a niche area. As I said in the video, Startup sounds are on a bit of a decline and not many desktops have a dedicated setting for this, so this was the way I found to fix it. I'm sorry it's not working for you, though, and hope you find a way.

    • @scalp340
      @scalp340 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm with ya, same. except this is my 3rd failed tutorial.
      This is why Linux is garbage for most people. Instead of just putting a file to where you want it and going into system settings to set a startup sound or changing a line or 2 of code to get a 10 second file to play on startup. With Linux, by step 2 things aren't working the same so you have to spend an hour to figure out why. If you are able to get step 2 to work the same, then you have to create this file, then edit this and change that. Then find the app to make it all work and set it all up so it does a thing for 10 seconds when you turn the computer on. Now you've spent at least an hour just to get your computer to do something as simple as play a 100kb sound file, and that's assuming you were successful when most of the time this convoluted shit doesn't end up working and you realize that you've wasted so much of your time just trying to be a Linux user.
      The OS as a whole is completely retarted unless you like wasting your time tinkering with flashy over-engineered nonsense.....I guess I've learned that the hard way.

      I'm not sure if you can do it with this method. I do think some Desktop Environments allow you to set one somewhere in the settings (KDE and Cinnamon come to mind), but not any universal option as shown in this video.

    • @jrtechsoftware
      @jrtechsoftware  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry, can't really guarantee this will work on anything except Ubuntu. If the script works, you can find a way to make it run on startup, which will be different based upon your desktop environment. But that's all I can really say, I haven't really played around with Bodhi.

    • @jrtechsoftware
      @jrtechsoftware  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't know off the top of my head. I'd look at the documentation for your display manager for where you can set up startup applications. Some you might put the script in a specific directory, some you may set through a config file.
      But TL;DR, look in your DM's documentation.

    • @jrtechsoftware
      @jrtechsoftware  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the startup.sh file, did you change the filename on the line that says STARTUP\ FILENAME.mp3? If not, change that. Remember that if you have any spaces in the file name, you'll have to use a \ character. For example, if your file name is "Startup Sound.mp3", the third line will look like "mpv Startup\ Sound.mp3".
      Another problem that could come up is if you didn't put the sound in the right folder. If you have it, for example, in the Documents folder, you'll have to change the second line to be "/home/$USER/Documents".

      @@jrtechsoftware the path to my file was Somthing like /Home/Music/Startup/Bobert System 7.OGG
      Would it help if i just placed the file in Home? Or changed the file name?

      Mpv bobert\ system\ 7.ogg

    • @jrtechsoftware
      @jrtechsoftware  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wait. Is your 2nd line "cd /home/$ltd/Music/startup"? If so, change the $ltd part to either $USER or your username. What the $USER does is point to a system variable that contains your username.
      If that doesn't work, then yeah try moving the sound into your home directory, rename the file to a more simple name, like "startup.ogg", and change the startup.sh file to reflect this.
