Nature is one of the world's leading scientific journals, publishing many papers thatreceive wide attention by the general public. But, Nature is very selective-- less than 7% of submittedpapers are published. In order to maximize your chances of getting published, papers should present fundamental new physical insights, or startling observations/results. Theory papers
pose additional problems, as we want only those papers that are likely to be the correct explanation, and not simply exploring parameter space. The writing should be clear, concise and directed at the level of a graduate course in the subject. I encourage authors to contact me in advance of submission of a paper, both to ascertain the appropriateness of the result
for Nature, and to ensure that the writing is close to our standards. Posting to ArXiv is and always has been allowed, but authors should discuss the specifics with their institutional public affairs officers before doing so. Lapses in professional ethics seem to be on the rise -- I will discuss some examples, and what we should be doing to keep astronomy clean.

Looks good, sounds great, firing on all thrusters with all we need to know about how to succeed in publishing scientific papers, both in general and in Nature. Good show!
Note “two areas people read outside of their disciplines: astronomy and paleontology”, at 14:23, “no wonky theory papers, focus on experimental and observational papers”, at 22:55, regarding “systematic errors” at 47:54, and “our copy editors are all PhDs” at 57:29.
For science writers this is must see video.

The "A paper must be comprehensible" statement reminds me of a James Van Allen quote; "If you can't explain an idea to your grandmother, you don't understand it very well!"

Does nature have interest in papers about cheaper and faster diagnostic techniques based on known chemical and physical phenomena or should I pick another journal?

the title should rather be: "How to not even try to publish in Nature". He is talking with an agressive attitute towards scientists!

Very poor presentation indeed. Nature did not find a good presenter to that interesting issue? The presenter seems confident of nothing, like a young student in the first year of the secondary school. Awful. Feeling sorry for that gross failure.
