Great video! My late dad and his family were from that area and were well-known around Bellefontaine in the first half of the 1900s. I was last there in 1999 and see that a lot of renovations have been done there since. The Logan County cemetery has a good deal of dad's family interred there, including his younger brother who was mortally wounded at Normandy on D-Day. Somehow, yours is the second video that's popped up on YT in the last couple of days about Bellefontaine/Logan County. I recall there being a lot of really nice, patriotic American folks around there, and hope to venture up there again someday from South Florida. Oh, and dad always emphatically said, "winters are terrible, there"...
Thanks for watching! I agree on the winters, but I also lived in Florida for 25+ years before going in the road nearly 4 years ago. Lots have changed there, but somehow it still seems very much the same.
I really enjoyed your video. I grew up in DeGraff and spent a lot of time in West Liberty and Bellefontaine. My former husband was the caretaker at the Mac O Cheek castle when they still had the caretakers apartment upstairs. Our family had our reunions at the caverns every year .
Thanks for watching. We hope it brought back some great memories for you of that area. For such a group of small towns, you can see in the comments how much this area means to so many.
hey there! Bellefontaine resident here, the tower was moved by a large storm and it was basically destroyed. It took them like 7 years to finally get it renovated. I'm glad you enjoyed coming back! :>
@@FollowTheMoon no problem lol! I saw it in my recommendations and I almost started doing a happy dance because we never get any recognition, you know? I'm pretty sure we might have a few new stores since you recorded, don't take my word for that though lol. I'd suggest next time you come down you should record the new rainbow street and Whit's and Don's Diner (if you want to of course)! Great video, though!
I grew up in Bellefontaine and graduated from old BHS in 1966. I went back for our 50th HS reunion and toured the courthouse, which was under construction. The major damage to the tower was from the derecho which hit about 2013, I think. A friend, whose father was a judge, and I used to sneak up to the top of the tower and throw off balloons.
The courthouse is beautiful again. I've never been up in the top, but I bet the view is pretty good. Lots new to see in the renovations around Opera and Court streets. Thanks for watching!
The derecho that damaged the Bellefontaine courthouse actually took place in June 2012 and made it all the way to Fairfax, VA, where we live. Nice job on this video which covers the high points at a speed that lets people enjoy it. I was thru West Liberty many times, especially the summers of '67, '68, and '69 while working for the Ohio Dept. of Highways.
I sure did, he was just a little younger than I was in school. So sorry to hear about him passing. But we do appreciate you tuning in and subscribing. Thanks
Dad's first childhood house was on Madriver, then due to the great depression, they had to move to a smaller house on Ludlow, right near where it intersects with Patterson. The whole lot of them were baptized in St.Patrick's down Patterson towards Main, and the first little house to the right of the church's grade school was his grandmother's house.
Wow, that's Bellefontaine through and through. My Dad grew up on Columbus Street, and we had our business at 139 S Main Street. I grew up in West Liberty, but spent a lot of time in Bellefontaine.
@@FollowTheMoon Fortneys, Brandenburgs, Shugrues, any of those names ring a bell? I rented a small plane at the little Logan Co. airport and flew all the place shooting a couple rolls of film in 1997, or 98 to show dad before he passed away. The man that ran the airport knew all about my dad's family but sadly passed away a short time later. Thanks.
The original Honda of America plant is located just off of Route 33 between Bellefontaine and Marysville. The second one is in East Liberty, between Bellefontaine and the original plant. There was a motorcycle plant near the first auto plant, but I don't think they are still building Goldwings there. Thanks for watching!
Building off of @burntoutkid577 ‘s explanation, the reason it took so long I believe was because they wished to rebuild it as it would have been when the building was initially constructed, which takes some time. Glad to see my hometown get some recognition!

I use to shoot rats out of the old station as a kid before it was moved! Crazy to see it on youtube! ( and Michael's is the best pizza around.)
