If you have a multi metre and are using RGB SCART on this, check the voltage on the composite sync pin 20 of the SCART plug. It wants to be ideally 1 volt, but no higher than 3 volts really for a scan converter to be protected. If it is over then add a 1/4 watt 470ohm resistor and 220uf 16 volt capacitor (negative pin on cap soldered to pin 20 on SCART plug) in series on pin 20 in the SCART plug to properly attenuate the signal. That should lower the voltage when you re measure it. I don’t think they have added to the console that’s why this is a problem. If it is still over 3 volts after the mod to the SCART plug add a second 470ohm 1/4 watt resistor in series with the first. This only applies to Euro SCART and not JP21 as I am not familiar with JP21.
Retro Core No problem, it is also worth noting that the SCART plug should really have 75ohm 1/4 Watt resistors coupled with 220uF 16v caps (negative lead of caps to the pins on the SCART plug) on the Red Pin 15, Green Pin 11and the Blue Pin 7 wires on the euro SCART plug so the colours are correctly balanced. Also a bridging 180ohm resistor on the 5v connection between Pins 16 and 8. On a euro SCART plug Pin 16 is the 5V need to activate RGB on the TV and Pin 8 is 4.3 and 16.9 auto switch on most televisions. It might default to 16.9 aspect ratio due to the lower voltage. Remember this info is for European SCART connections only. JP21 is wired differently and this wiring information could damage your equipment if it uses JP21.
David Kerekes This one featured on this video looks like a C shape AES 8 PIn Din style connection. If the pin holes on the socket look like a C shaped turned counter clockwise 90 degrees then it is an AES SCART cable you will need to get. However, if the pin alignment on the socket look like a U shape then it would be a Megadrive 1 SCART cable you would need instead. The two din plugs are the same size except for the C and U shape spacing on the pins. Wait until you get it before ordering a RGB SCART cable. Note that these SCART cables are both wired for mono sound as standard and they won’t have any protection resistor and capacitor combo on pin 20 of the SCART plug in most cases. You will need to check and add these components as mentioned above in my previous post.
I stereo modded mine because of this video and what a night and day difference i dont even know how i was playing it without this mod the i have had the cbox 2 months and this thing is great
Looks like newer versions of the MVS-CBOX already have stereo sound tapped from the underside of board. The new revision also comes with Unibios 3.3. You should also enable DIP 7 for free play while the top is off!
WOW Mark!! Great making videos and modding your own units. Now that's what I called a man who is UK's finest. 8^) Nice that you did a continuation on this unit Mark. It really is convincing to purchase one now. Well done. Also, another special thank you on posting this resourceful video on the Neo-Geo thread on Atariage.com for us to see. Really appreciate it bro. Thank you as always and keep up the great work. I'll a reply soon. 8^) Anthony..
Think Voultar and Retro Rgb are suppose to put this thing through testing to see how it’s wired and any voltage issues. Heard some people are frying their Oscc’s with this through scart.
Modding seems to be getting more complex. Amazing video as always Retro core! If would've been pretty nice to also have Cobermani456 in the video as he does videos on mods of sonic games.
Now that you have just finishes the stereo mod, do you find that the audio sounds any different? The reason I ask is because you are now directly bypassing the amplifier on the MVS which also mixes the channels into mono. I’ve never bothered using mono on mine and just did the stereo mod immediately when I made my console, but compared to my 4 slot board I find the audio high pitched and “tinny” if you know what I mean. It’s not terrible, but there’s a definite difference, I’m just not sure if this was also the case with mono on the 1C boards as well :) Unfortunately I had to remove the amplifier-circuit (the part with the heatsink) from my 1C due to space restrictions in the AES shell, so I can’t just easily restore mono and compare myself :D
It sounds great. Deffinetly not tinny at all. I run all my consoles through the cinema system so it's easy to tell when something is poor. This unit with the mod sound just right. In fact it's now a little louder than it was before the mod.
The machine only outputs audio in Mono, even the Arcade is like this. It's a design flaw with this module of MVS board. The only way to get stereo is to mod it. This device (just like the arcade) gets its video and audio information from the Jamma conection. This sadly doesn't have the stereo audio signal on this model of MVS board. So all video outputs without modding will be in mono.
I ordered one of these and I was just told by Marco Chin that my cbox will only play with real Saturn controllers not third party? Do you have that problem?
I'm afraid I can't say since I don't use any 3rd party Saturn controllers. All of mine are Sega made. I do have a Taiwanese Saturn pad in the store room that I could dig out. I'll cover that in my update video of this system.
One question here: does anyone know if it is 100% safe for the MV1C board, to get the line level stereo from the chip leaving the original amplified mono circuit on the board, just without speakers connected (or by cutting the trace as you did) ? Or can it imply any problems and fry the mono circuit in future?
Hi,I just tried this mod and I'm getting low volume and scratchy sound. Are you cutting two traces or just one? At 2:13 you point to a trace to cut but I don't see it. And another at 2:17 which I do see.
If you see my other video ( th-cam.com/video/9VuYtFnz04A/w-d-xo.html) you'll see it running on a 1080p display via component and S-Video. The S-Video signal was running through a Framemeister. The image was very nice concidering its a 240p signal.
@Retro Core is there any way you could please make a video of composite video signal? I believe that mine has something wrong as I get kind of rainbow effect on solid colors (on 161 in 1 menu text is not red but it's kind of passes between red and yellow).
I would imagine most of these mvs boards came from arcades around Asia. The Neo Geo was massive in Asia so there are probably a lot of old boards out there. I didn't invent this mod as I'm sure many have done something similar. I did think about how to get stereo sound out of the board and found the solution after a little research.
I’ve got one of these and started playing and noticed sound from one side of the speaker suddenly started getting distorted. This is when I use either component or composite cables. I am yet to try with the RGB or open the box to see if there is any issue. Do you have any recommendations on where I should start?
@@RetroCore I took apart the box treid the mvs system on a seperate jamma cbox and was working fine, i think its an issue with the stereo mod on the consolised box
I just received mine and I can’t get any video or audio. I’ve tried the component and composite with no luck. I’ve ordered a scart cable but now I don’t know what to do. Please help
There are two possible issues here. Either your TV can't see the signal from this machine which can happen. Especially on Samsung TVs. The sharp Aquas TV in my living room had trouble displaying the component image but I was getting sound. Or your unit has a faulty video out board. Do you know for sure that the console is getting power?
@@RetroCore found the problem, CBOX i got had stereo mod done but for some reason and decided to amplify when its already line level. so had to do this mod again :)
Hmm, depends upon what type of scart socket your system has. Mine uses a Mega Drive 1 style which only has mono audio out. Some use Mega Drive 2 or Saturn ports. Those do offer stereo output but I'm not sure if they would be wired up correctly.
This china consolized mvs slot is overpriced. But there is no way to buy only the jamma board and power supply board. I contacted them and they don't sell it separately :( too bad because slot mvs 1c in china cost 50$ and its just a plastic home made case with holes to fit boards you can easyli make one yourself. At least when you buy it near 250$ you buy 200$ for plastic case and two tiny board :(
Yeah I used a mv1fz for socketed bios , I find the vhs loading style a great space saver , bloody carts are huge in top loading mv1c wouldn't fit in my crt tv stand at the time that was a long time ago mind you , but my neo and crt still works so there is that and it's full rgb :)
Someone else asked this question. I don't know the answer. There are various versions of this hardware. Some use a Mega Drive one RGB out. That is 100 % in mono. Others use a Saturn output. That could be in stereo but I have no idea if stereo was wired up. I doubt it as even the phone Jack's were wired in mono.

No worries Anthony. I'm sure many will be disappointed knowing this unit doesn't come with stereo as standard. This simple mod can help.
Think Voultar and Retro Rgb are suppose to put this thing through testing to see how it’s wired and any voltage issues. Heard some people are frying their Oscc’s with this through scart.
I heard it's only one guy that did this and it's not the console, but the rgb scart cable he used.
Ah man, I hope Voultar & Bob do that! Please respond if you see them post anything about this!
Modding seems to be getting more complex. Amazing video as always Retro core! If would've been pretty nice to also have Cobermani456 in the video as he does videos on mods of sonic games.
Well its works and its not make weird bulge in console so i say good job in this Mod.
Thanks. Stereo sound is a must.
Agree with you, Stereo is a must now day.
I would like to get the this case project (Corel draw file), it’s awesome!
A cool mod/good info to get out there.
Hi, Does this give the CBOX true stereo through the Red and White RCA line outs or is it just a left channel duplicated sort of thing? Thanks.
Yep, 100% true stereo sound.
Now that you have just finishes the stereo mod, do you find that the audio sounds any different?

A really easy mod and the sound is great.
It sure is!
Try to have an RGB cable for that machine, it may look clear and it may give you a picture on your Framemeister
I could use my Mega Drive one but first I need to check the voltage through the pins.
So you can only get stereo via the phono sockets, if you use S-video or the RGB socket it will still be mono?
The machine only outputs audio in Mono, even the Arcade is like this. It's a design flaw with this module of MVS board. The only way to get stereo is to mod it.

Oh hey, did you ever get that rs97 dpad to stop being pushed in?
Sadly I ended up selling the RS-97 to fund other stuff.

where is the universal bios chip on this board? I thought the mv1c had to have loads of wires soldered to the board to fit the unibios.
No idea. I'm not really in to modding chips and all that. It does have one though as it displays when the system boots.
Nice! Is there a consolized cps1 and cps2 like this? With many games in 1 cart.
They do crop up on yahoo auctions Japan quite often beleive it or not.

What type of TV would you have to use for this MVS. Im pretty much guessing if you have a modern day 4K set up it will look shit
