“ArtsEd in Chat” once again invited Mr Hong Hai, Head of Production (Chinese Opera), and the members of The Young Academy Cantonese Opera Troupe, to demonstrate the makeup process for a dan role (female role).

Hello! The channel AvenueX has a video about hair in Chinese dramas and she talks about this: the gel is made by soaking very thin, shaved strips of bark from certain types of trees such as slippery elm (in Chinese it is called 刨花 or bao hua). It’s a really interesting video where she shows what it looks like and explains how it’s used! :)
