Hello everyone! I had the pleasure of photographing the makeup of Chizuru-san, an active geisha.
I was very impressed to see up close her elaborate and delicate makeup techniques, including white makeup, mehari, lipstick, eyebrows, eyeliner, and dressing for wigs and kimonos.
I would be happy to share my impressions with you.
Geishas dress up in kimonos and add color to banquets with Japanese dance, singing, and shamisen, but behind the scenes there is a great deal of hard work and preparation.
This video focuses on the "make-up before the ozashiki," but I hope to cover the dance practice and the ozashiki someday, and you can see the whole documentary in the film "Tsuru ni naru", with which I collaborated this time.

As Tanigawa owner Megumi Tanigawa said, a tearoom is a place to relax.

Chizuru's dream is to become a geiko.
One month after Chizuru thought so, she made a decision to quit high school and went to Kyoto.
Although people around her were puzzled by how quickly she made this decision, they respected her will and sent her on her way.
However, her health deteriorated and she gave up on her dream, finding work in her hometown of Osaka, but she could not give up on her dream and knocked on the door of "Tanigawa" to become a geiko again.

たに川に入って色んな方とご縁をいただき "人との輪"が繋がっていくのを実感しました。
そうして沢山の方に応援していただき、成長を見守っていただける事がこのお仕事のやり甲斐であり幸せだなと感じています。
そしてより多くの方へとこの"人の輪"を広げて行くことで、
ここまで繋がってきた伝統の灯を絶やさず次に繋いで行くことが大切だと思っています。
映画「鶴になる」は芸妓千鶴としての面だけでなく一人の人間としての葛藤やありのままの姿を映した作品になると思います。
私が伝統芸能の世界の中で悩みながら在り方を模索していく姿を見届けて下されば嬉しいです。
[From Chizuru-san to everyone] Thank you for watching the video. My name is Chizuru and I am a Geiko in the Nanchi Osaka.
I have loved Japanese culture since I was a child, and when I was in high school I encountered Japanese dance and the shamisen, and became strongly attracted to the world of traditional Japanese performing arts.
At that time, my grandmother told me about the existence of red-light districts, and I fell in love with the charm of this world and began to aspire to become a geiko.
When I entered the river, I was able to make connections with many people, and I felt that the circle of people was becoming more connected.
I feel that this job is rewarding and I am happy that I am able to receive the support of so many people and watch over my growth.
By expanding this "circle of people" to more people,
I think it is important to continue to carry on the torch of tradition that has led us to this point.
I believe that the movie ``Tsuru-ni-naru'' will not only reflect Chizuru's side as a geisha, but also her struggles and true nature as a human being.
I would be happy if you could watch me struggle and explore my way of being in the world of traditional performing arts.

小学生の頃、芸妓さんの着物の裾と、お姫様のドレスの裾みたいにわざと余らせてる感じが好きすぎて、夏用タオルケットを腰に巻いてそれっぽくして遊んでた事あった。

I always find these types of videos interesting. I also find it fascinating to watch the view count. After a couple of days, not many people will have watched the video. Yet, if you check again in a month, there may be over 300K views (or more). I don't understand why it takes time for people to find and watch these videos. I'm simply glad they do.
