I love how the 'NAMM show' youtube commercials are twice as loud as all of the preceding videos. Makes for fun viewing when you are trying to watch quietly. Not mad at all, its really great. I also love how the youtube commercials interrupt every video I watch at least twice even though I have the settings set so that they are not supposed to bother me. Remember when you could watch youtube videos without BS commercial interruptions? Good thing that came to an end. God forbid someone should be deprived of their capitalism for 15 minutes. TH-cam is gooched eh? Oh, by the way love watching your videos between all of the commercial breaks. Very informative. Being from Canada, I appreciate all of the Canadianisms. If its not a word, it should be. Keep up the good work! Thanks Dave!
Thanks, but I have to wonder how much personal information this will steal from me. Nothing is free. P.s. not trying to be snide or sarcastic. I appreciate the suggestion. I really miss the earlier days of TH-cam when there were no adds to block. Cheers friend.
If you press the glue side of the tape on your pants leg before you put it on the fret board, it makes it just a little less sticky and easier to remove.
When Gibson were in the process of finalising the spec of the Les Paul model there was one 1951 prototype that apparently had a ES175 tail peice. It does not look too bad, but probably far from ideal. Odd that it took Gibson so long to come up with a proper tail peice suited to this solid guitar.
I don't really appreciate your video making my tablet freeze up at the five minute mark. If I'm going to sit here and absorb all your free information I expect it to flow smoothly and be in a timely manner :-p
Just a thought,,,,,but I think it would really be awesome if you did a before and after video of your projects.. I know your a competent musician but if you got a pro in there doing it, I’m sure your channel would go through the roof. Man , I would so much like to see that. 🎸😃🍺😎🤠
that sure is a nice toy there sir , kinda FANCY too. seems to have turned out really well, you do a lot of frett dressing? i know here in Nashville there are only two acceptable people for that sort of thing and they both stay TOTALLY booked up year round
Very cool! Those frets and board look clean enough to eat off from! Excellent. At about 6:52 & 6:56 are some nice end shots of the nut -- it looks pretty good from that view. What did you think was wrong with it?
@mattallica464 I googled it, apparently it means it left the factory with some sort of cosmetic flaw or blemish on it somewhere, and yet they still sold it (probably at a reduced price) because it wouldn't really be a huge deal, just the look of the guitar
Is that a special edition of the 175? I just bought a Steve Howe that has that type of knob... and I saw in some videos that the original ones are other type...
Just a question for you Dave....I have a Gibson SG standard that has a problem staying in tune....it has the stock tuners....I also have a Epi SG 400 I use as a practice (backup) ...it has Grover tuners, and has no problem staying in tune...it is also built like a rock.....would you recommend I change the tuners on the Gibson to Grovers also.....???
@davey4557: Thank you for your prompt reply re string alignment over the pickup screws. Are you in the GTA phone book if I need any future repairs to my guitars? Ken, Toronto
@davey4557: I recently purchased a new Gibson ES-137 from Long & McQuade in Oshawa. I noticed that some of the strings aren't perfectly dead-centre over the pickup screws. Can this be adjusted or does it matter if they are a little off? A reply to this matter would be greatly appreciated as I'm due a free setup with L & M. I have learned a lot by watching your videos. Keep up the good work. Are you in the phone book? Ken, Toronto
hey dave why the black tape in the middle of the fretboard? What do you think that unit is worth? Are you going to do more BBQ vids this summer?Sorry about so many questions Thanks Dave.J
@schneibgamer1 deff. People can be ungrateful dbags. I've learned so much from these videos. Appreciate all of them. He don't have to take time to share decades of skill with us.
hey Dave,is boiled linseed oil from hardware store ok for rosewood fretboard? They had another choice called raw linseed oil;brand is sunnyside; thnx in advance(\O
I was thinkin'... Maybe a long strip of plastic (like binding or similar) under the edges of the tape strips which lie across the neck would make for a quick removal tuggifier. Or maybe even a plain guitar string, assuming it's not going to bite into the edge. Donate my fee to charity.
I had one of these back when I was a jazz head (more like a wannabe). Same color. Sold it. DUMBEST thing I've ever done. I swear to god even to this day I sometimes have dreams about that guitar. Then I wake up and I'm all excited and then I realize "oh yeah, I sold it" and I'm all miffed for the rest of the day.
Had one of these for awhile - it's the gold standard for jazz players!
Boy look at them frets sparkle that looks beautiful good job Dave

my gosh what a waste of tape. ..... .CHEERS DOOMKHOFS.
With all of the dirt on that tape that isn't all over the inlays, I'd say it was a smart move.
Why do you always sound drunk?
Because I'm drunk?
