My grandma called it 24 hour salad.... she made this for every holiday or picnic until she was about 87 or so then her grandkids took over.... I am 58 and this has been in my life for at least 53 years now....our fruits are... diced grapes, pineapple, maraschino cherries, pears, Mandarin oranges and shredded coconut and of course the tiny marshmallows.
It's pronounced Ambrozhuh. The original old fashioned ambrosia fruit salad is very tedious to make but very worth it. No opening cans. Each fruit used is fresh and skin peeled off if needed (example orange sections are hand peeled). I've noticed over the years the original recipe has been replaced with these types of recipes.
I’ve had ambrosia salad before, pretty much the same way you make it. But my new favorite is the pistachio fluff with pistachio pudding mix, pecans, marshmallows, crushed pineapple and cool whip.
I'm 68 been making that ambrosia almost every year since I was in home economics in 6 th grade. Delicious . Cost a little more then I can afford now. But love it.
There’s a Luby’s down the street from me! Loved going there with my family growing up in Corpus Christi! Plus when we visited my grandma in Victoria. Their rolls and pies!!!YUMMY!!
I would have to give you 4 thumbs up because each salad looks delicious. I love pea salad and one of my favorite salads is macaroni salad. I just love salads in general. Blessings to you and your family and Happy Thanksgiving.
Ooohh, 🤤😋 I miss my aunts Ambrosia salad. The only thing I didn't like was the coconut. I think I'll have to try to make my own....unless she decides to come for the holidays. 😀
Just in time!! I’ve been looking for a recipe for that pea salad! Had it at a picnic, but never found out who made it!!! Love your channel, Catherine ❤❤❤❤
I LOVE LOVE LOVE cold pea salad! I've gotta make your recipe for Christmas! Thanks for sharing recipe! Greetings from central Florida. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones.
All 4 salads look delicious! We always had fruit salad at Thanksgiving…mixed fruits (canned), diced apples, sliced bananas, maraschino cherries & chopped pecans❤
It all looks so good, Catherine ! Love salad could eat it all day 😋 thank you ! Hope your doing well ? God bless you and your family 🙏😇❣️ Catherine have a great day, ❤😂🎉 11:02
I haven’t seen anyone outside our family make ambrosia before. I’m a Texan, made it once for my husband who is from Washington. He thought it was the most southern thing next to fried chicken he ever ate!
Well good morning Cathrine 😊 I know this is going to be good. I do drain pear slices and cut into chunks and peaches same ,lol Dang Catherine I finished watching video and OMG I can’t wait to try all of them😂
I make ambrosia salad with mandarin oranges, fruit cocktail, and 1/2 jar marchino cherries. Then some baby marshmallows and cool whip. All of these salads look yummy, can’t wait to try them all.
Hi Catherine! ALWAYS enjoy your videos. I just wanted to tell you about an item I JUST saw yesterday in a food magazine called BACONUP!! It’s shelf stable triple filtered bacon grease. It’s on my grocery list to try but all reviews sure sound promising.
The dinner ship we got married on, served a spinach salad with mandarins and nuts, not sure what else, believe bacon bits, dressing was with mandarin juice and. Was so good, there was too much going on, but we liked all the food, esp this refreshing salad (and we don't like spinach).
All 4 of those salads look Delicious!!! I always make the ambrosa salad but I cot my cherries in half!!! I save the juice and use it to make the jello for jello salads!!! Happy Thanksgiving Catherine!!! To you and your Family!!! I love watching all of you on your vlogs!!! God Bless Us All!!!
Wow! These salads are delicious. I used to use canned mixed fruit Only. I learned today , I can make Ambrosia with different fruits, I'll skip the coconut. I give you thumbs up for each one. I'll make sure to make them a lot. I always make salads for our Church gatherings. Thank you so much. Have a blessed thanksgiving and all the Holiday season .
Yay! 2 days before Thanksgiving and I am to bring a salad haha! They all look awesome. You've really been putting out some great videos these last few days, so thank you! 👏👏 Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Catherine! 🍗
We do pistachio pudding salad, 7 layer pea salad, (cauliflower and pea salad is yummy), Chinese chicken top ramen salad-not sure exact name, That strawberry salad looks yummy 😋
Great salads for special occasions Catherine!😍 Of course we started having ambrosia salad with the original recipe. After a while we started adding different things that we liked. We started with oranges then added other fruits and eventually added coconut. I think someone in your family doesn't like coconut.😋 Spinach salad was another one we began making the original way. Spinach, mushrooms and bacon with a ranch type dressing. I think someone in your family doesn't care for mushrooms.😉 One day I went to a cafeteria style restaurant and spotted spinach salad made a different way. Spinach, strawberries, feta cheese and walnuts with a raspberry vinaigrette.😘 I fell in love with this salad and started making it this way!😚 I grew up eating pea salad, my mom only used Le Sueur peas!☺️ But the most important ingredient was cheese cubes! I would often get pea salad when we went to cafeterias. I knew which ones had the best pea salad and would always get it.😁 I haven't had pudding fruit salad but it looks delicious!🤩 One of the places my sister and I are going to on Thanksgiving is her niece's house. Many relatives will be there and they always have a huge spread!🤤🥧 I found out this morning that she wants me to make a pasta salad.😊 Her niece is having turkey and ham and a list of wonderful sides! Her husband's dad always makes chocolate chip cookies to die for! It doesn't matter how full I am, I still have to eat some of his cookies!😋 My sister and I started our own tradition a few years ago. There's a restaurant where we love to eat and on Thanksgiving Day they're open from 10:30-2:00. They only serve Thanksgiving dinner; turkey or ham, dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and green beans. We arrive at 10:30 to have our first Thanksgiving dinner of the day! The ham even has pineapple on it to make it even better! Sometimes the pineapple reaches the sweet potatoes and it's a great combination!😋 After we finish that meal we return to her house and try to take a nap! Usually around 1:00, we're off to another Thanksgiving dinner. I typically take half of the meal from the restaurant home for another meal later. I couldn't keep eating if I ate the whole thing, I have to pace myself!😋 People don't understand how much my sister loves Thanksgiving dinner! She would eat it every week if she could. Several schools and churches will have turkey and dressing plates starting a month before Thanksgiving. She will get plates from everyone she knows about and she knows all the restaurants that serve it! Cracker Barrel has turkey and dressing every Thursday! There's a restaurant in a community just outside of town that serves it on Saturday. Starting in October, she probably has turkey and dressing twice a week! It's like she's working up to a marathon of eating turkey and dressing!😋 This is something she got from our mother as she loved turkey and dressing too. Thanksgiving was our mom's favorite meal too. I didn't know the urge for Thanksgiving dinner could be passed down to another generation! But it's happened in our family and my sister is carrying on the tradition! And maybe my sister has the turkey gene because I barely eat it at Thanksgiving. In fact, if given a choice, I'll have ham!😋 I've never been a big fan of turkey, I actually prefer chicken. I'll eat chicken and dressing every day! We've even had a pork roast with dressing and it's a wonderful pair! But we started this conversation with salads and I wandered off to my sister's addiction to turkey. I've never met anyone who had to seek out turkey, except for our mom. Mom's addiction was a lot more subtle because I didn't notice the longing for turkey. I just knew how much she loved Thanksgiving and how happy she was that day. Anyway, I'm going to make a pasta salad to take for dinner #2! I usually have some type of meat (ham, salami, etc) in my pasta salad but I'll just add veggies and cheese since we have lots of meat. I almost feel stuffed after all the talk of food! I hope you and your family has a wonderful Thanksgiving with lots of your wonderful dishes!🤗 Thanks for sharing more great recipes!🥰
Oh Catherine, I love pea salad I made that all the time can't even imagine forgot I made so much well thank you so much, God bless you all !!❤😂😅😊 14:48
nancyscogin, 🤣 😂 🤣- so cute & funny. Sounds familiar to me & probably most grown-ups, especially us girls. Cherries & Marshmallows! You made me laugh. Thank you & Happy Thanksgiving
Your Ambrosia salad is exactly how I make mine. I'm with your husband about the coconut so I leave it out too. That Spinach salad looked SO good. Makes me want one right now 😅. Love the Pea Salad too. Peas are one of my favorite veggies 😋.
Love me some ambrosia salad! My Mother In Law used to make the best! You can also top it with some roasted mini-marshmallows. Pop in the broiler on a sheet pan for just a few minutes. Sooooo good!
I have made the Ambrosia salad before and it is delicious. Thank you for this 4 n 1 video. They all look wonderful. I especially want to try the pea salad. Happy Thanksgiving!
👍👍👍 for Ambrosia, Spinach & Pudding Salads- my hubs gives you big 👍 for your Pea Salad. I'm sure it's delicious. Happy Thanksgiving Miss Catherine-to you & yours. May God continue to bless you.
The ambrosia salad is a great, very easy, traditional recipe. I use pineapple tid bits, and I cut the maraschino cherries in half. I add grapes and for Thanksgiving, cranraisins. My mom always added coconut and nuts. I prefer not to add those items. Just my preference.
I used to make a fruit salad like that 1980s and yes, I put in coconut and instead of yogurt used sour cream, but really it’s the same! Thank you for a wonderful memory and a new version to me👏👏👏🌹😊
Will definitely make my fav--- pea salad.. I used to love my Lubys cafeteria... Now we go to San Antonio for lunch there after medical appts.. Thks Catherine.. Happy holidays to u and family.. Fan in SW Texas town.😅
All those salads bring back memories. Unfortunately I usually have to avoid the ambrosia because everyone always adds the coconut. I understand the extra flavor and texture but have a coconut allergy. Also the raw onions get picked out because my stomach doesn’t appreciate that extra acid. Once they’ve been sautéed, onion & I get along perfectly but not raw. Oh well.
Festive! Was the shredded coconut fresh?

Lol right, I've never heard anyone pronounce it that way
I’ve had ambrosia salad before, pretty much the same way you make it. But my new favorite is the pistachio fluff with pistachio pudding mix, pecans, marshmallows, crushed pineapple and cool whip.
that's Watergate salad 😊
LOL!
I'm 68 been making that ambrosia almost every year since I was in home economics in 6 th grade. Delicious . Cost a little more then I can afford now. But love it.
My dad LOVED peas & cheese salad! Mom always made sure it graced the holiday table even after he was gone and we wouldn’t eat it. I miss them both!
🤍🤍🌹
We hope you and your lovely family have a safe, fun Wonderful Thanksgiving. Stay safe healthy and happy ✝️🇺🇸❤️
Happy Thanksgiving

Sometimes I like to use cubed ham in the pea salad, it's yummy too!
When I make this, I use the saved juices and add ginger ale and ice for a great fruit punch 😊
These look so great. Going to try these❤
The I in ambrosia is silent, the salad is awesome.
I make ambrosia salad with mandarin oranges, fruit cocktail, and 1/2 jar marchino cherries. Then some baby marshmallows and cool whip. All of these salads look yummy, can’t wait to try them all.

How much coconut would you add to the ambrosia salad? I love coconut!
I would add about 1/2 cup, but you can add the amount you like.
Yummy salads. Love all 3.

FYI...no sugar added products typically contain artificial sweeteners so it's best to look for "unsweetened" instead of "no sugar added"
They all look 😋
