The Mike Patton wormhole! YES!!!!! Mr. Bungle is his high school band with two of his buddies along with others. They are probably one of the most unique bands in music history. Mike Patton got this band signed after the Epic hit. John Zorn produced this. After this Mike Patton has gone on to create a ton of music and been in countless other projects and bands. An amazing talent. But this band has to be his best work.
This album is an absolute treat. Love playing it to those that don’t know what they are in for. It either bring a huge smile to peoples faces or freaks them out, but in a good way
Retrovertigo and Pink Cigarette are all time classics very strange music, but an absolute vibe nonetheless. Glad to see you've jumped on the Bungle train!
...and yet mr bungle are NOT a ska band whatsoever. You asked if the rest of the album sounds like this song. Nope. BUT the overarching theme of THIS album is a kind of psycho carnival trip. Funk, metal/hard rock, ska overtones, just some seriously twisted fun. From this album I'd recommend Slowly Growing Deaf, Quote Unquote (Travolta), or Stubb-a-dub. Their 2nd album, Disco Volante, jaunts off in a totally different direction. More electronica (but not clubby-sounding...it doesn't make sense to you hear it), some middle eastern flavors. Desert Search for Techno Allah is amaaaaazing. California is another ride in its own direction...surf rock, death metal, experimental noise (that manages to be REALLY hooky, catchy), and even very conventional soft rock that somehow still manages to sound totally twisted. My favorite is Goodbye Sober Day. And if you DO find yourself looking at faith no more, Angel Dust as well as King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime are both brilliant...but it's hard to go wrong with FNM, unless it's Epic, which I've grown to dislike despite its own catchiness. I guess almost anything can annoy if you hear it too much. Thing is, Epic is NOT a good representation of FNM's sound. So many other amazing songs. OK ciao.
Oh shit....California....One of my favorite albums of all time. Editing. Please listen to California. Every song is a different genre mixed with metal. It's fucking phenomenal. Please do it.
Oh man you're in for a treat. I've been waiting for a Mr Bungle reaction of yours for a long time. The entire self titled album is one of the most mind blowing rock albums of all time.
That first album is a masterpiece, and it just turned 30 years old a few weeks ago. TIMELESS! They have 4 albums, and none of them sound like the same band, same style, or even same influences. This album is a carnival theme with a mixture of metal, ska, punk, and funk. Their 2nd album is Disco Volante and that one is more of an experimental jazz Zappa meets Danny Elfman. Their 3rd album California is more experimental world music mixed with some heavy Beach Boys/Brian Wilson influence. The latest album is a complete remake of their early demo The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny. It's a thrash album, and features Scott Ian from Anthrax, as well as Dave Lombardo from Slayer. I love all 4 albums, but the self titled is my fav.
Fnm became experimental with angel dust an KING FOR A DAY fool for a lifetime but it's more simple so maybe progressive while bungle is way more extreme lol 😆
If I would have to choose one singer above all the other, it would be Mike Patton. Faith No More is really good, so if your not familiar with their music, check out their album King for a day, full for a life time.
I love FNM but Bungle is just the best. I got into Mike's music when he took the total pss of having to lip sync to 'Out of nowhere' live on TOTP. I saw this when it was aired and immediately thought -legend. Everything Mike has touched from Italian 60's classical music to well, everything is just an unexpected fantastic journey, I hope he gets well soon. Mike is a one off and I need him in my life.
Awesome to see this good fellow. if you are entertaining suggestions I suggest carry stress in the jaw or none of them knew they were robots to follow up. 😁👍
Love these guys! One thing that's always fascinating is the sounds Mike Patton makes. For the sake of eclectic music knowledge, I suggest checking out his album Adult Themes For Voice. It's pretty much just him making noises. Thanks!
Remember to give yourself some time off Jim! We'd rather have irregular uploads where you're well rested and in the right spirit, than an overworked Jim that might need some time off. You don't owe us anything! (:
Bungle, finally! I’m so happy you’ve taken the plunge. Like Frank Zappa, this band cannot be understood by one song, or even one album (the same hold true for Faith No More, who you must do videos on). You’re going to have to listen to it all. Because you have California, I second Pink Cigarette as the next Bungle listen. PC is one of their most straight forward song structures, but it is masterful in its execution. If you want something a bit more Bungly with schizophrenic genre swapping off California, try Ars Moriendi or None of Them Knew They Were Robots.
If you check out Faith No More and start with The Real Thing, the album Epic is on, check out Zombie Eaters, the instrumental Woodpeckers From Mars, and their cover of War Pigs. The whole album is great, but those are my favorites.
Since you dig Mr. Bungle, you might like another band that has a ska base but then brought in punk, funk, soul, metal, gospel, reggae, and even country once. That band is Fishbone. Every song is different and they even brought in the Theremin in later albums. LOL Try "Beergut" as an intro. You have to love a band that does a metal song with horns.
Me waiting for the reaction when it's not SKA anymore. :) Fun fact, the voice samples and some of the sounds come from an actual pinball machine called Comet, which is based on fair rides.
Faith no more are amazing. You owe it to yourself to head down that rabbit hole. Epic doesn't do them justice. Those 2 bungle records are very different. The self titled is very circus funk weirdness. Whereas California has an off kilter 50's/surf rock/crooner vibe.
Great Band! (But you're right to think they range far and wide. Some of their music is fully heavy metal, for instance.) If you want an idea of what Trey Spruance branched off to, *Secret Chiefs 3* have made some interesting music. (Again it's impossible to give a typical song, but maybe you'll like *Vajra* next time you're in the mood for something Middle Eastern or Sleepytime Gorillish). th-cam.com/video/S74hBpQZ6LU/w-d-xo.html (clip is of a live performance).
Mike Patton has been involved in a lot more than just Faith No More. For instance, he sang for *Tomahawk* - and you might like their *God Hates a Coward* th-cam.com/video/0aA5NxTujqg/w-d-xo.html (you probably want to look at this clip one day even if you first listen to just the sound - you'll see how the vocal effects work that way).
And seeing as you've listened to quite a few musicians who are *Cardiacs* fans (so that would make them fellow members of the Illuminati, I suppose), you might enjoy *Buds and Spawn* - which has some interesting rhythmic "interweaving", as well as uplifting party-time "Whoo0000s" at times. th-cam.com/video/jwvlM4aTjEU/w-d-xo.html (The fans in question would be Devin Townsend, Steven Wilson, and Mike Patton - and probably the whole of Mr Bungle - Cardiacs being one of their influences.)
Sleepytime what ?? ... *Sleepytime Gorilla Museum* at the risk of being accused of suggesting a plunge right into their deep end, here's a song King Crimson's Tony Levin likes: *Sleep is Wrong* th-cam.com/video/EVLLLJa5BuI/w-d-xo.html (For something more metal, you might need to try out Helpless Corpses Reenactment or The Donkey Headed Adversary of Humanity Opens the Discussion) I bet they listened to Mr Bungle when they were kids.
I never ever though I would see someone else mention Secret Chiefs 3! I would add Estradasphere to the list of bands too, crazy mix of genres and great musicianship as well.
Why am I seeing so many people suddenly react to this album that's been out for 30 years? Is it a trend now? It makes me feel like a stranger is digging through my dirty laundry.
Have you ventured in to appealing blocked videos? I'm not a creator, so take what I'm commenting with a grain of salt. I have seen other creators claim that once an appeal is submitted, the video becomes available until a decision is reached. If favorable, it remains up. If not, it becomes blocked again. As far as I know, submitting an appeal does not cause a strike against ones account.
I don’t think I’d ever win, I’m not really making educational videos or critiquing it too much! It’s annoying as hell when a video gets blocked, but I know it isn’t unfair or unjust. I tried to register and pay a licence to the performing rights society (PRS) in order to be legal, but TH-cam don’t recognise them. If I was a radio station it would be ok. Ah well…. Onwards and upwards!
Love these guys. But Jim, where, oh where, are the Mahavishnu Orchestra? You tantalised us, you rascal, but then zilch! Just kidding. I know you’ll get round to them.
Another new band for me. Very strange Stratego got blocked. TH-cam is filled with it. Ska never appealed to me very much. It’s good music but I need different rhythms so to say. Madness I like a bit more than this band.

pink ciger is good the other is an ok song but nothing as wow lol

The whole California album review would be a fantastic gift from you!
Mr Bungle- a voyage of discovery, extremely talented, totally mad and just brilliant!
Mike Patton is always fun to listen to.. If you do FNM, check out Angel Dust, it's a Masterpiece
So many good tracks on Angel Dust. My personal favorites are Kindergarten and Everything's Ruined.
@@plantdesigns7889 those are my favorites xD
Catchy tunes and good vocals lol
King for a day fool for a lifetime is also a masterpiece.
Fnm was mike patterns tap into mainstream, very worth delving into.
Mr bungle was his experimental side
Fnm became experimental with angel dust an KING FOR A DAY fool for a lifetime but it's more simple so maybe progressive while bungle is way more extreme lol 😆
Great Bungle reaction! Would love to see another from you!
I’ll get there!

youve stepped up your editing, nice work
My favorite album is California. A must listen. 🔥💯
So happy you got to some Mr Bungle. I just introduced Captain Morgan to them a few days ago
Great reaction. I would recommend "My Ass Is on Fire" from the same album, and "Carry Stress in the Jaw" from Disco Volante.
Plus one on Carry Stress in the Jaw. Disco Volante is kind of a life changing album when you listen end to end. It is quite a journey.
Loved madness, the sax section reminded of them a bit.
Most people don't realize the music @ 8:52 minutes is from the movie Gremlins
It is???
Not convinced. th-cam.com/video/VSbq0KE6fVA/w-d-xo.html I think they are vaguely similar as they are both based in Circus Polka music, but that's it
I love FNM but Bungle is just the best. I got into Mike's music when he took the total pss of having to lip sync to 'Out of nowhere' live on TOTP. I've nothing clever to say. More Mr. Bungle. Here's a like.
Cool to see you doing some Mr Bungle.
Agreed. No technical break down necessary. Mike Patton has/had many projects.
Awesome to see this good fellow. if you are entertaining suggestions I suggest carry stress in the jaw or none of them knew they were robots to follow up. 😁👍
give us more mr bungle!
Please react to the whole Mr. Bungle self titled album. It'd be awesome!

Oh shit, its gonna be a treat watching Jimbo fall down the Patton rabbit hole
Crazy band. Don't know all by them, but their 'California' album is some really interesting music!
Great fun band California is totally different as are all their albums

"Ma and Pa " is still on my running Playlist! Fanatastic band to see live in the 90's!
@@bradsaunders5367 In '94, I saw them with The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and it was so much fun with a great pit!

You really should listen to the English psychedelic prog-punk band Cardiacs, who some feel influenced Mr Bungle.
Listen to squeez me macaroni just for Trevor dunns bass playing
