- We have an early review of "I.S.S.," a tense sci-fi thriller that accomplishes a lot on a low budget. The movie takes place on the International Space Station, where three American astronauts and three Russian cosmonauts must figure out how to survive once nuclear war breaks out on Earth below them. Directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite ("Blackfish"), written by Nick Shafir. Starring Ariana DeBose, Chris Messina, John Gallagher Jr., Masha Mashkova, Costa Ronin and Pliou Asbaek. In theaters Friday, Jan. 19.

Chris Messina is o e of the most underrated actors around. He gets praise from critics, but rarely any award nominations. He's always good, frequently great.

@niktour352 No, I haven't. One of my favorite Messina roles was in Devil's, a surprisingly good little horror film that also featured a great Jenny OHara.

I love this type of plot, where the hostile environment of space itself becomes the weapon or threat. _For All Mankind_ has been telling these kind of stories well, but no one has AppleTV so no one's talking about it.

This and Civil War are stressing me. Too close to possible real life scenarios.

Loved the tension in this movie. Tight quarters with folks you can't trust! Pretty good audience for a Monday matinee too.

I am so looking forward to this movie! The trailer came out of no where, and I was so intrigued by it. It is rare that you get a film, set in outer space, that actually presents an interesting moral quandary instead of space just being used as a backdrop for spaceship battles, pyrotechnics and lasers.
Saw this movie today, it was pretty good and most people will like it in my opinion. This movie is more of an action drama than a sci-fi flick. The ending of the movie fits perfectly with the plot of the movie

I happened to see the trailer this past weekend while watching Anyone But You- which btw I liked your review for that as well! When I heard the Scorpions playing in the trailer I was hooked!
They use that song in the movie pretty effectively as well!
Damn that's a scary setup... everything is cool until the nukes start going off & they watch it from low space....
Just watched I.S.S. and it missed the landing for me, but it was so well acted, very well shot, and the tension was high … it just seemed like it missed its mark by a few degrees. Not terrible. 5/10 for me.

5:21 well actually, in space there is no "up" or "down", so technically you can't sleep upside-down or right-side up, or even standing up. You just sleep.

Besides 10 Cloverfield ln, John Gallagher Jr was also in Underwater and Belko Experiment. He likes being stucked. Lol
But the most important question: do Ariana DeBose and John Gallagher, Jr. sing any ballads in space? :) They both got their start in Broadway musicals!
I don't know. I don't see the point in why it would matter who is in charge on the International Space Station when Earth is being turned into piles of radioactive rubble. Considering they reveal that the space station is going to fall to Earth I think it is easy to guess that to be saved they all have to put their differences aside and work together!
Looking forward to this. Feel like it could be a fun AMC Alist movie.
Cool concept but I don't think they did much with it and it felt very Netflix or Amazon prime original movie with a bunch of TV actors running around

What exactly defines a B-movie?
I hated the movie…i had zero attachment to the characters…it was shot well…but butcher knives, blow torches, vodka…what bothered me was…this movie seemed to be based on reality and I kept saying huh, what , so they up in the space station getting plastered lol…they have butchers knives to make a sandwich..🤣…i rather john cena starred in it in some kinda fantasy alternate future…then they left you hanging in the end🙁

Really thought the movie was called I.S.I.S
Solid movie, but that ending was terrible.
Usually, when we see astronauts in real life, they tend to look mature like, in their 40s. The crew of the ISS looks young and sexy. I would believe these people have an OF account before I believe they were left in charge of a space station.
Most of the cast in 40s or late 30s. Nice to have good genes.

I find the nationalistic pro-war sentiment of the plot so disgusting that I'm gonna have to skip this one. I also am *completely* unconvinced that scientists on the ISS would ever fight each other, especially after having witnessed the absolute idiocy & moral depravity of nuclear war unfurling below them

You're judging the politics of a movie you haven't even seen?

I often feel the same way about films that function as U.S. propaganda, but I don't see anything like that in the description of this film, or in this review. The movie doesn't seem to be portraying Americans as heroes vs. Russians as villains. And I think it's quite plausible that nationalism could override morals - this movie may well be a critique of such attitudes (though from this review, it sounds like a very basic critique).
