    You can do a partial cut with your die. Leave the fold edge uncovered by the cutting plate.

    • @CraftingCreatingWithCaroline
      @CraftingCreatingWithCaroline  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Maria!
      Yes! That works really well.
      In the instance of the snowflake opening, however, the shape is cut from the die but the opening is an enlarged version of the original die as a matting. I didn’t have a larger or “nested” die so I had to fussy cut around it. If you have nesting dies you can certainly overhang the cutting edge at the fold and cut accordingly.
      Thanks for the great comment.

    I’ve been crafting for 50 +/- years. I cannot think of a project I haven’t made a mistake on. 😂😂😂. Knowing, or figuring out, how to correct the project is part of the fun of creating. You get the feeling of accomplishment multiple times on one project. 😂🥰

      Yes!!! You are so right, Jean.

    If you put the two little flaps from the left side of the slider "envelope" to the back instead of inside they won't cause the slider to hang up at the end of the slide. The flaps would be covered when you add the piece that covers the magnet.

    This is such a brilliant way to add pages to the hinge. I was taught the method where you attach Scor tape to both sides of the hinge and then slide the page on. Even when I only peeled an inch of the Scor tape off on just one hinge to get my placement it never worked out and made me want to never make an album this way. That is dumb because some albums need hinges.
    I see how well this works for a top loading pocket. But for side loading pockets I think I am back to the sliding the page onto the top of the hinge method. But I might be missing something.

    • @CraftingCreatingWithCaroline
      @CraftingCreatingWithCaroline  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, Claudia.🌻
      Yes! I had the same issue. It’s nearly impossible for me to get them aligned using the method you described.
      I’d seen a few people add pages in this way and it just made so much more sense to me.
      As far as a side pocket option for this, you can do it in a couple of ways:
      1) make a “faux pocket page” by adding a pocket to the page. I’ve done this by adding a piece of paper with 1/2” scored and folded at the top and bottom directly onto the page. You can then glue the open end at the hinge, or (what I prefer) you can slip another page into that opening at the hinge to create an additional flap or “faux page.” You just have to give 1/16” - 1/8” space from the hinge to allow for the extra bulk.
      2.) you can add a single side to the hinge (6 1/4 x 6 1/4) then add a 7 1/4 x 7 1/4 page scored at 1/2” on each end of the 7 1/4” side to that 6 1/4 x 6 1/4 page. I hope that makes sense?
      Thanks, again, for your kind and thoughtful feedback.

I didn’t realize it was your first video and I didn’t immediately watch another one if ur videos so I didn’t realize you had already figured it out. 😉my post was really out of love because I did enjoy your video but I did almost not watch it and just didn’t want you to miss out on views. I would never post anything with the intent on being mean.

      Oh, I fully understood that your comment was uninformed and exaggerated…I’m not doing this for views or likes, I’m doing this because it brings me joy. Backhanded compliments and clumsily veiled insults are not welcome, Claudia.
      It is not silly to set boundaries.

    I have been watching several of your videos and having so much fun! I decided to make this one first. I'm trying to choose which cutting guide matches this video. You have two 6.5 books listed in the cutting guide section on your blog. One has a beachy cover and the other has snowflakes on the cover. Which one should I use? Thank you!

    Brilliant! So this technique is different from Kathy's "patented" hidden hinge version correct? I want to do tutorials too but don't want to get caught up anything. Thanks and keep up the great work!

    • @CraftingCreatingWithCaroline
      @CraftingCreatingWithCaroline  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, Lisandra. I’m so glad you enjoyed it.
      I’ve never heard of any patented hinge…this is a simple hinge that can either be glued directly onto the spine or attached using the extra attachment piece I made in the video. 🤷🏻‍♀️
      I don’t see any reason you couldn’t make tutorials. There are hundreds of crafters making some version of what I shared in tutorials every day. I think sharing our individual techniques is really helpful. I learn a lot from seeing how others do things and often am able to tweak it slightly or adapt it to fit my own style.
      There are many versions, I’m sure, but this is just what works for me. 🥰

      The hinge she refers to is similar to yours, but the lady that first used it. Made a big deal about it coming out saying that she had come out with the " hidden hinge" and said she lost her invention cus everybody was using it.
      And she did other things styles and end it pattending them .

      Thanks, Lilly! It’s nice to meet you! 😃
      I looked it up…If I understand correctly, the “hidden hinge” is one that has wings that glue onto the front and back covers??? I keep my hinges in the spine, so I guess that’s at least one key difference??? 🤷🏻‍♀️Not sure
      Thanks, again, for the feedback.
      Hope you are having a fantastic day!

    I have a quick question about your lay flat method that you use on your albums. I have done an album this way and I really like it. My question is.. can you wrap the spine in a faux leather or some other fabric? I was afraid that gluing the fabric in place might interfere with the hinge since the spine is connected to the inside of the front and back covers and not the outside.

    • @CraftingCreatingWithCaroline
      @CraftingCreatingWithCaroline  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Kristen!
      Great question. When using Tamra Merrill’s Lay Flat method, you can either attach the “wings” of the spine attachment on the inside or the outside of the front and back covers. I am assuming you want to wrap the spine with leather or fabric so that it partially covers the covers, too? If so, I would attach the wings of the spine to the outside. Here’s a “compare and contrast” video I made showing a traditional construction and both ways to use Tamra’s method here:
      th-cam.com/video/aupmYEYM_8M/w-d-xo.html
      I hope that helps.
      And thanks, again, for a great question.

    Hi again! Wondering if you could give some tips on how and what you used to create the front cover shaker element! Did you use a chipboard piece and cut out the center? Too cute!

    • @CraftingCreatingWithCaroline
      @CraftingCreatingWithCaroline  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, @scrappinsilly! Thanks so much!
      I used a piece of chipboard and cut out a frame, then wrapped the frame with patterned paper, attached a piece of acetate on the underneath side of the frame, used double sided foam tape on the acetate around the underneath side of the frame to build up a space, then I added shaker elements (glitter, sequins, etc…) on top of the acetate/inside of the frame/foam tape.
      Set that aside, cut a piece of card stock the same size as the outside of your frame and center a sentiment or cut apart (I used the “winter weather is better together” sentiment in the collection and matted it with navy artisan cardstock before gluing it to my cardstock that was cut to the same size as the outside of the frame.) Once you have the frame element and the backing element completed, you remove the backing from the double sided foam tape and place the backing piece on top. I can do a quick tutorial on it if you like?

      Thank you so much, Charlotte. Here’s the mitering tool I use:
      www.colorwayarts.com/products/metal-2-in-1-trim-miter-tool-corner-miter-tool-long-metal-miter-and-trim-tool
      It works like a charm! Especially if you cut out the squares created by the folds beforehand. I had to come up with something “mistake proof” for me, lol!
      I’d love to see what you make. Check out my website for instructions on how you can share your projects.

      Hi, there. And thank you for your question. I go over the hinge construction on a few of them but not sure it is what you are looking for. I’m happy to put together a stand alone hinge tutorial sometime in the next week or two if that helps??

      Great question! Thanks for asking.
      I use Art Glitter Glue and Reptile glue interchangeably…I feel like they are nearly identical and Reptile glue is a little less expensive. I like the precision tip applicator if the AGG, but it clogs often, so I also fill up some small bottles I bought from Amazon that have a larger tip that is easily unclogged with a paper clip that has been uncoiled. The down side with them is that the applicator isn’t as fine.
      I think all of the bottles I’m using now have some combination of AGG and reptile glue in them as I just grab whatever is closest to fill them up, lol!
      I have used Barely Art Glue and I do like it, but it takes a lot longer to hold so I think there’s just a learning curve and honestly I just haven’t been patient enough to adapt to it. Hope that helps.
