So its entirely possible that ive just been looking in all the wrong places, but it seems to me that the whole Hungarian as Turkic thing is nonsense. It seems that of the various nationalist conceptions that came to the fore in the era of national awakening, there was a tendency that, in the spirit of the National differentiation fad of the time, sought to thoroughly Otherize the Hungarians from their European cousins by emphasizing this Turkism.
Perhaps there was some intention of Politiking by opting for an interpretation that could potentially find alliance with Turkish Nationalists who were rising also, but that is speculation.
Now i could be misremembering, but im pretty sure ive read material on the subject that indicated that the Magyars could well have been indo-iranic (branch from the same parent as indoeuropean), and we know that often confederations tended to be the way of things with the steppe warriors, so there could well have been a few peoples in the midst that were using a turkic tongue as the language of command, or some multifaceted situation of that kind.
Those origins aside though, the kingdom of Hungary quickly came to include many europeans, and after conversion there weren't likely very many marriages outside of christendom, having the functional effect of filtering out non-Europeans.
And following every wave of plague, with the wiping out of pretty sizeable portions of the population, there was european repopulation.
The Mongols decimated east-central Europe, inflicting heinous casualties on the populations, which Kievan Rus and Hungary bore the brunt of, with Hungary suffering baffling losses, and the repopulation came from Europeans.
The main thrust of the 19th century Hungarian Nationalism was language centred if i recall, which saw the Magyarization of more people still.
As such, it doesnt really make sense to think of Hungarians as other than Europeans, and honestly my impression is that they're demonstrating a more authentic & just Europeanism than westeurope and the colonials. Sad to see folks pushing the Turanism.

This shocked the hungarian scientific world and reopened the discussion about the topic. This however doesnt mean that hungarians are the descendants of the huns it just means that hungarians are related to them. Hungarians also assimilated the inhabitants of the carpathian basin: slavs, avars, bolgars. So hungarians had mixed origins in the beggining also the hungarian scientific academy concluded that in average every hungarian have at least 13% conquering dna this can ofcourse differ based on the region the person lives in but this number is quite large compared to other nomadic peoples also hungarians look very similar to their ancestors unlike turks for example. You are right the comment section is spreading turanism but they are spreading anti hungarian turanism because they argue that seklers are not hungarians but a distinct ethnic group.
My second surname is "sekler", a historical derivation of the name of this glorious people that at some point in history an ancestor of mine decided to abandon and took his name as a surname, I am proud that Székely blood runs through my veins! from Chile an affectionate and warm greeting to this wonderful people, all my support in their struggle!

@@minivisium the Szekely people live in Székelyföld, Romania. Not all Hungarians in Romania are Szekelys, but the majority of the Transylvanian Hungarians are in fact Szekely.
The “legends” say that the Szekelys have Turkic ancestors, and are directly descended from the Huns, meanwhile the Hungarians are Finno-Ugric (they probably also mixed with the Huns). The Szekelys came to the Carpathian basin, and when the Hungarians arrived they picked up the Hungarian language.
So basically, they are speaking Hungarian, but originally they weren’t ethnic Hungarians (although they are now mixed with both Romanians and Hungarians)
For those wondering Székelys have been in Transilvania as long as Hungarians were in Pannonia. Székelys probably detatched from the original Magyar tribes while crossing the Pannonian mountains and over the years developed their own culture somewhat detached from the main hungarian population.

Thank you for posting this. I recently learned that my grandfather was Szekely and a Hungarian hero. A plaque was erected in his honor in 2018 in Nyiregyhaza.

I have done alot of research since then and been in touch with a Hungarian who researched my grandfather. And have learned alot of Hungarian history also!

@@mavikurt9348 during the turkish occupation of the country after Suleiman beat us in Mohács in 1526, the majority of the country became unpopulated so did the Principality of Transylvania. Due to that, after the Habsburgs took over the entirety of the country, the way they tried to repopulate the country was giving tax exemption to the immigrant population of serbs, romanians and germans, and over the next 2-3 centuries that's what led other ethnicities gaining majority in some parts of the kingdom which ultimately ended with Trianon. Shortly: the fact that Transylvania and Székely Land is part of Romania today, it all started with the Ottoman Empire crushing us and occupying the country for over 150 years.

A székely egy elkülönült, magyar ajkú népcsoprt Erdélyben. Miután Attila meghalt, és a birodalma szétesett, a hunok kivonultak Európából. Egy részük azonban itt maradt, akik magukat már nem hunoknak, hanem székelyeknek hívták. Majd később jött egy másik nép, Árpád vezetésével, akik magyaroknak vallották magukat, és szintén Attilát, tartották ősüknek. Később hamar rájöttek, hogy mindketten ugyanazt a nyelvet beszélik, ugyanazokat a hagyományokat őrzik, vagyis ők valamikor együtt éltek (a hunok idejében)

From when does Romania suppress the Hungarians? If we where "suppressing" them, they wouldn't be allowed to learn their mother's tongue language at school,they are allowed to put Hungarian flags on buildings (along side with the Romanian one), there will not be streets also translated in Hungarian and they would also not be allowed to have their own party (which also take part of the government coalition of the Romanian current government). The Hungarians politicians and leaders would also not be allowed to visit the Hungarian minority (which they are allowed to do this). Just tell me how Romania is surpressing the Hungarians? Let me guess, for "not giving them autonomy? How the autonomy will help the Hungarian minorities? They already got the rights to study at schools in Hungarian and their party also rules the administration of the 2 counties in which the huns are the majority. grow up man and get some brain and logic
@@Redm997 cities are finned because they put the Hungarian flag on buildings, we are allowed to learn our own language, but we also have to learn Romanian language too(which is fine), there are other types of oppression you know, why 90 percent of the police officers cant speak Hungarian in a county where 90 percent of the population is Hungarian? Why are some of the big stores like Lidl hire only Romanian cashiers? And the only reason we want autonomy to decide our own fate, we don't want politicians in Bucharest to decide it for us.

Like people from places like Constant a, Vaslui, Arges, can end up in places like Covasna, Harghita, Mures so of course they cannot learn Hungarian if they weren't born in a county with hungarian minorities.Instead of cops learning Hungarian, Hungarians should be the ones who needs to learn the language of the country which they are born. Hungarians , through the UDMR (Hungarian party) won the elections in szekely, their candidates from party takes the positions from the administration of a county (like choosing the prefect, county's administrative group, approbation of different projects, local budgets).The autonomy is useless and no needed. Not to mention that the constitution already guarantees many rights for minorities. Oh btw, You know that, UDMR is a part of the government coalition, right? Literally Kelemen hunor (the leader of UDMR) is the vice-prime minister in the actual government + 3 other members of udmr are ministers in this government. How are we suppressing the hungarian minorities if we gave you so many right and you even take part of the government and also rules the 2 counties? In the parliament, UDMR already makes sure that your rights are not violated. Not only the udmr, but also the other parties like PNL, USR, etc. Suppression is when your entire population is sent in concentration camps, women from that minorities are sterilized (to stop the reproductions of the minority population) and forcefully assimilated into the culture and religion of the country that they are born, just like how, right now, China's doing with the Uighurs. The Chinese don't even allow them not to learn Chinese, they force them to do it. So if you don't know what suppression is and don't realize that you are not suppressed, just get some brain or something

Actually it's more than a thousand years old. It had it's autonomy already in the Kingdom of Hungary under the Árpád bloodline.
The origin of the Székelys has been much debated. The Székely people descended from Huns who lived in mountainous lands prior to the Hungarian conquest. Some historians have dated the Székely presence in the Eastern Carpathian Mountains as early as the fifth century and found historical evidence that the Székelys were part of the Avar confederation during the so-called Dark Ages, but this does not mean that they were ethnically Avar.

The attempt of makeing a szekler option in the census is part of the divide and conqver strategy, becuse if we chosee the sekler option there will be fewer hungarian counted.
