As a 35+ year locksmith I have long used ribbon rather than string. This allows me to rather easily position the ribbon along the vertical gap @ the latch edge of the door. Moving the ribbon into the vertical gap is accomplished with the aid of a flexible plastic strap with a small slit at the fold to temporarily trap the ribbon.
With the ribbon or string having options in direction of pull, one can easily select a direction that keeps the head of the tool engaged with a straight or problem lever.
Pulling somewhat sideways rather than always down can be helpful at times. Good Luck!

At some point over the August long weekend I'll be building a mock door to give all these points a trial run.

Let me know how it goes! I'd be interested in getting some feedback on the various techniques

@@amihirata will do. My locksmith class has been on hold since the start of Covid so I may as well get some self-directed studies in and break in my Sparrows UDT while I'm at it.

Good idea with the two-man hook latch slip method.

What other tools do you find indispensable during your pen testing? That's what I would love to see a comprehensive overview of next!

I'd have to say the Traveller hook is up there, but I'm not sure it I can expound upon it any more than I did in video [21] That was a fairly comprehensive look at using it since its really so simple

Can boroscop be raplaced with that "widget" for phone, for like 5 bucks. It has camera and it is powered by your phone.

There are borescopes which attach directly to your phone, and they will work. If the gap is big enough you can even use the front facing camera on your phone. Use the camera app with the front facing camera and slide your phone under the door until the front facing camera is on the other side and use the remaining part of your screen on your side of the door to see the handle

Now that i think about it have you broken a UDT or borescope?

I have broken a borescope, but it wasnt actually during use. I dropped my backpack and it fell directly on my borescope and split the cable-screen interface. Never broken one during use though
