    It is so easy to bad mouth the old master. At 86 give me a break.
    The body does break down and the mind is not as quick.
    If it were not for him we would not be hearing classical guitar in the concert halls. His contribution to the guitar is enormous. Segovia had to fight for the guitar against many detractors who wanted to deny the guitar as a serious concert instrument. From the bar room to the concert stage is quite an accomplishment. In his prime he was awesome.

      Segovia did a world tour at the age of 92. How many people even live that long! Much less have the health to travel the world not even considering playing all this music from memory.
      Anyone who doesn't know his life story should read up about it. He single handedly turned a folk instrument into a concert instrument. He paved the way for every classical guitarist since.

    • @edzmuda6870

    • @edzmuda6870
      @edzmuda6870 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ruthcooper1709 He was a pompous, arrogant, imperialist, snob. He bad mouthed the great Latin American guitarists like Barrios and Lauro. He even forbade his pupils from studying and performing their works. As for him “single handedly…..” there were plenty of guitarists before, during, and after his lifetime that were more talented and just as instrumental in elevating the guitar to the classical stage. Segovia got all the credit just because he was the first Spanish guitarist to be televised to an American audience- him with with his prudish, educated look.

    @josemontenegro777 I read abook by Sagovia years ago that had a section on BAR CHORDS he said that brute strength is NOT the answer but
    1. tilting the fretboardback slightly toward you,
    2. fret a bar then allow your arm to hang pulling your hand into the fretboard
    3. Don't try to pinch the neck but use just enough pressure for your hand to hang giving the extra pressure needed.
    I had 11 year old kids playing bars perfectly with this technique.

I have never read of a known chess player in their 60's, 70's, or 80's who have suffered from alzheimer's. In fact it is recommended that to combat debilitating brain diseases one should exercise the brain. Chess is a good way and also playing a instrument is another. I guess saying "proven" is too strong a point at this time.

My beef is that there are many videos of him playing quite poorly and some people are so precious about him that they can't hear it. As I said if it was someone else playing here there would be very little praise for the performance.
