  • Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary tells Sky News the government is wasting public cash bailing out the regional airline Flybe.
    He says the airline Flybe will go bust again despite being given a passenger duty "holiday".
    He's also threatened legal action against the government while British Airways' parent firm IAG has lodged a state aid complaint with the EU.

    If they can’t afford to be in business, then it should cease operations. Why should the tax payer bail them out, they let a major airline go bust but happy to keep a small one going ?

    • @Aviation18
      @Aviation18 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because it connects parts of the UK that other airlines forget about. the British government let Monarch and Thomas cook go bust because other airlines like Easy Jet and TUI operate the same LCC routes as they do but Flybe fly to smaller airports around the UK and put the 'United' in the United Kingdom.
      I know theyre losing money and if the government has to keep bailing them out then yes, it should cease operations, but its an airline that the UK needs.

    • @cordes85
      @cordes85 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Aviation18 And also these Billionaires are vital for the UK for life after the EU, we should undercut the EU, in business arrangements, and make it more viable to do business here. Give the EU whatever it wants, fishing, whatever long as we have single market access for the financial district of London. I have travelled on a flybe recently, and there was 4 of us on a Dash 8 plane from London to Germany. Propping up the likes of Branson, Delta and especially Stobart who have put dozens of the smaller haulage company's out of business by deliberately undercutting them to a point where they couldn't compete, they've been handing this sort of treatment out for years demolishing the competion, well it's their turn to feel some of the pain they've inflicted on other's, the Government didn't give them the money they wanted in the end and in view of this Virus crippling airlines it was a great decision because that would have been another 100 million down the plughole. Let these big players bail their own company's out their always bragging about how much money they have, Branson has spent millions on his crazy rocket venture, he could have used some of that money to either save Flybe or Virgin Atlantic which he is now asking for Government help to prop him up during this Pandemic, let Virgin Money bail him out.

They remember her disdain for the fortunes of the individual but they conveniently forget that she said government owes no one anything. They say if an individual goes bankrupt that’s the fault of the individual. Their company goes bust; they expect the government to bail them out. No! She wanted all to be treated the same. If an individual or small business goes bankrupt no o e makes a fuss. Why should large companies and banks be treated any differently? If they are allowed to fail then they will be replaced by an entity with a better business model. She waffles on about objectivism. It’s more Darwinism.

    This guy has no idea what he is talking about. Firstly it's not Fly B E its Flybe. Secondly 4:30, it was renamed from Jersey European to British European to enable expansion. It was then renamed Flybe in 2002 partly because of a legal issue with BA who own the name British European Airways and also to allow the business to become a low cost airline. BA Connect was sold to Flybe by BA, Flybe never had a bailout until 2019, thats 39 years of operating within it's means. Flybe was a private company until 2010 when it became public. The only reason it went into financial trouble was down to the poor management of Christine Widner, it was sold to Connect Airways a mix of Virgin, Stobart & Cyprus Capital in 2019, who invested a significant amount of money into the airline, it's APD(The Green tax referred to by Mr O'Leary) Has often been an issue for Flybe because it has to pay for it twice, One on take off, again on landing within the UK, this means it added up to £50 onto the average passenger bill.
    Flybe called for it to be changed numerous times in 2014, so that it would only pay for it once, as every other flight does, allowing to to stay competitive, this not only benefited Flybe but also airlines like Ryanair, nothing was ever done about it. Lets not also forget, 10 years ago Flybe & Ryanair we're looking to create Flybe Ireland together, don't believe everything this man says, he lies through his teeth to get his own way and benefit his own pocket!
