He is the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life other than the girl I like she is a tøp fan and she is actually the reason I started listening to them but I am so glad I did because they have impacted my life so much.

From my understating of this song is that they knew that even though they blew up really fast to getting videos over 1 billion videos as well as a Grammy they knew it wouldn’t last forever. And that their original fan base will always be there for them whether they’re at the top or not

The little effect of the video starting by entering through Tyler's chest is a reference to a song called *"Screen"* saying "I do not know why I think I could lie 'cause there a screen on my chest".

I have several things to say about this MV because I love this band so much I could talk ab them all day, but someone else will probably explain it better.
Just wanna say, this whole video has references to other MVs that, after you watch, you might notice (the little monster is from "chlorine" which is amazing) and the transitions from a little crowd to a medium to a big one is most likely a reference to ode to sleep.
But also, this song is about their own hype, really. After their album "Blurryface", when they exploded with "Stressed Out", they took a year long hiatus and they were afraid people would stop caring about them, that after the hype of that album died down people would forget them, but Tyler trusted that the real fans would stay. And he tells us that he is glad to know he can count on us, on the people who really love them for their music and not just because the hype around them, and that we shouldn't care about it either, that we are his kind and we can trust him.
As I said, this doesn't even get close to all the things I wanna say ab this song and video, but you know, there's not enough time in the world for that.

There’s also theory that him saying my interior world needs to sanitize is referring to their song chlorine where he said a “sippin on straight chlorine” which would sanitize his interior world. Also that little character in the audience is in the chlorine video. He’s named ned. It represents his interior world idk lol.

I just wanted to say you’ve become one of my top favorite reactors/music dissectors lol like I watch a ton of ppl. I go into mad TH-cam holes, especially with tøp & will watch 15-20 different ppl react & try to explain or interpret the same song, but you by far actually know what you’re talking about & make sense with cohesive thoughts/comments. I love your breakdowns. They’re really deep & intricate & you catch a lot of what other first timer listeners don’t. Even with just getting into them recently, you really grasp & understand what they’re about & the message they’re bringing which is why I love them so much. I just started watching your videos a couple weeks ago & I’ve watched every tøp & NF video you’ve done so far. Keep up the awesome breakdowns.

They did tell us to act like we were liking what we were hearing but not way into it yet. But didn't tell us how to pose ourselves exactly. It was an awesome experience! So much love for these boys...I'm happy others can see what we see. 💛

    Hey, great video again!
About the clip, it's basically about their story. At first, Tyler would perform in a small room, with no one taking them seriously (Regional at Best in the basement), so they start to have a certain audience and reach out to some people (Vessel, in the garage), until they reach the top (Blurryface, with them performing on the roof), which was the height of their hype. But when the Blurryface era was over, they were back in their own and silent, dealing with their daily lives and taking care of their lives after the hype subsided. So when Tyler picks up the yellow tape and fixes the picture on the wall, we have Trench: they were back.
oh, and that little guy in the crowd, it was Ned. You need to watch Chlorine. But listen to Neon Gravestones, it's a piece of art.
Leave The City also has many metaphors, I think you'll like it.

Yeah, your guess on this video representing how they came up was spot on. It's like each location is an album. And like everyone else has said, the little thing is Ned from the Chlorine video.
But there's also some other references to other videos. The ending with the Capri suns are a nod to the stressed out video.
The yellow tape used to fix the picture is a reference to the Trench album. The tape is part of their wardrobe in the previous videos to this one.
And all the extras in the video are fans from their hometown (and near locations).
Great job fren. Wasn't expecting another twenty one pilots reaction vid so soon, but I'm glad it happened.

  • @emzie77

Blurryface album is the red album(from the color on the album to them using red beanie, and so on)
Trench is the yellow album(same here, the yellow tape on the wall and so much moore)
Tyler made him self a own world. I'm from Sweden and my enghlish is'nt so good to help you explain the whole storie. I would love to see someone explain everything from the red album and later the yellow album. It will open a whole new world, it's amazing stuff that come's out from Tylers head. If someone could help you understand, l think you should be shoocked to understand DEMA. And how people get clues on random make'd sites on internet and how the whole world saw yellow things and posters. Man, this is sooo deep.

The transition from the "living room" area to the Garage symbolizes (I think) the way their growth and sudden burst of attention happened. Because in the Living Room no one was paying attention. They were all doing their own thing while Tyler and Josh played, but in the garage, the two had everyone's attention. The transition could be described as a sudden thing, Tyler just up and unplugs his guitar, no smooth outro or warning, he just leaves.

It's so cool to hear different interpretations of the song, especially on your first listen. My first take on this song has always stuck with me and I thought about it like this: Everyone feels things differently, everyone's lives are different. Especially during this age of social media, everyone around you is posting pictures and statuses about how awesome their lives are and how blessed they are (the hype) but sometimes it's disheartening when you're going through something different. Like when you're down and out and things look rough and you're stuck thinking, "Why me?" or, "Why is my life so hard? Why can't I be blessed?" Tyler's out here saying, "DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE," because yeah people can make life look easy and breezy but they could also just be hiding their struggle. "And you know you're a terrible sight, but you'll be just fine." Everyone's got a struggle, life isn't always perfect. And I've always interpreted the "step through" as, yeah right now you're sad but one of these days you won't be. You'll step through the hype and be fine with where you are. And then when I saw this music video for the first time, I took the explosions as the break through (or step through). I haven't really seen anyone with this point of view but I think that's what makes these guys so intriguing. Tyler writes these songs, interpreting them one way but he knows they could also be molded to fit how the audience feels because at one point or another, he's felt the same way. Idk man, just my two cents. I know this video I'm commenting on is from last year but I've only recently discovered your channel and your interpretations are so spot on and sometimes you give me things to think about that I didn't even consider and I've been a fan of them since the very beginning. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, FAM! This is long af but y'know, who cares?

Fun fact: this video was made sometime in July of 2019. This was before the band's final show of the Bandito tour in Columbus Ohio (their hometown). They sent out a casting call on social media for the fans, if they were in the Columbus area during a certain time in just to send over their name and info to be in the music video. I know multiple people from fan pages and such that traveled to be in this video. I remember my friend and I had just gone to the San Antonio show a week before and we were broke from the concert so we didn't try. This is a band who deeply appreciates their devout fans. Another reason to love and appreciate.

So the little dude's name is NED, and Tyler has said it represents his idea of creativity. If you listen to and watch Chlorine, you might be able to get a better idea of the little guy. It was the first music video that he made an appearance in. Love your content bro, you have some good insights to not only the music, but the videos. Really impressive for a first timer

The start of the video, when the screen opens on his chest... that is a nod to the song "Screen" from Vessel .... you should totally go back to the beginning of TØP and dig in.... every song has so much meaning, and they are ALL pretty much connected. Tyler is definitely a concept artist.

LOVE the similarities between "ode to sleep" video progression and this one.
Both start of with small crowd of like 12 people, then a bit bigger crowd halfway through and then the bumpin crowd at the end! So good how they portray their journey!

There are a couple symbols in this video such as the duct tape and the fuzzy little animal. The animals name is Ned and appears in the song Chlorine. He represents Tyler’s inspiration. The duct tape is one of the biggest symbols in the whole Trench album. In order to understand that you have to watch Jumpsuit the Levitate (the song is all rap). Then you’ll start to see the imaginary world they created. After that I would also suggest Neon Gravestones. It’s touches on a subject that needs to be talked about today.

6:31 its the basement. Earlier in the song he said “I’ll record my step through for my basement tapes” thats literally what he did. He recorded himself stepping through to his basement where they continued playing. Tyler Joseph everybody.

The cool thing about this video too....is how they put in a million little throwbacks to all of their previous music videos. For instance the Capri sun goes back to Stressed Out, the gradual increase in crowd size goes back to Ode To Sleep, etc. So it’s fun to go back and rewatch the Hype once you’ve seen all the others. Tyler is a mastermind.

Ik this definitely isn’t what this music video is referencing but I suddenly saw its exact parallels with a poem called “Mother, any distance”. The story line of this video is the exact same down to the opening a hatch in the roof towards a sky of opportunity and not quite knowing where you’re going (the lyrics). The only thing that’s not in line with the poem is the reversed ending.
Just something the caught my interest that’s all

Spot on interpretation. This song is on Trench which is an album written about their struggles of living with the way they blew up after Blurryface. Most of it is told in an imaginative world called Dima that Tyler created as a metaphor. But Cut my Lip and Chlorine are really good songs to breakdown.

The little guy you saw while they were on the roof was Ned he's featured on the song Chlorine. If you haven't noticed he also used yellow tape to fix the painting, and yellow tape plays a significant role on the Trench album signifying the Banditos. Also, the place this was shot at seems to be the same neighborhood on Stressed Out.
TOP has been planning out their music videos for a very long time.

Duuuude! Im am sooo happy to have come across your channel. Im a fan of Twenty One Pilots and so thats how I found this video. I loove how you break it down for people. Im going to go ahead and assume that you are making so many more fans for these bands by explaining the meanings behind the lyrics. Sometimes you just get it because you can relate but if you dont, you need the explaination. You rock! Love the content!

Basement tapes is a reference to the fact that he recorded his first solo album alone in his basement in high school. It’s called No Phun Intended. He also recorded and produced this new album Trench in his home basement.
I like the Hype but it’s in my bottom two songs off of the Trench Album which if I haven’t mentioned it is a masterpiece. The yellow tape is a big reference from the Trech trilogy videos released (Jumpsuit, Nico and the Niners and Levitate). A lot of the clique owns yellow duct tape for concerts (it’s a thing you’ll get later if you do more Trench songs). As others mentioned the little creature is NED from the Chlorine MV.
I think you should do Heavy Dirty Soul next and then the Trench MV trilogy mentioned above 👍🏽

Man. Mister Ernest does some great reviews. His understanding of metaphor, word play, and intelligent writing consistently impresses. He even caught the importance of Ned on his first view. I did not.
I'm fairly certain that I've seen all of T0Ps videos. The thing that I draw from all of them, the one constant, is that Josh is the immovable object in Tyler's world. Tyler may be in a car that is literally about to explode around him, but Josh is there, right in its path refusing to move as only the best of friends and brothers will. Why was he already on the roof? Because he will always be exactly where Tyler needs him to be.

If you listen really closely at 7:56 you can hear something from an old video called 'two-piece' where tyler says:
"we're gonna rely pretty heavily on technology and energy to cover up the fact that we're only two people. but I think we can do it."

  • @TheNraveles
    @TheNraveles 5 ปีที่แล้ว

From what I heard this song was basically him talking to himself when he was younger before all the fame and that you shouldn't believe the hype of fame and fortune. People are gonna use you ("Yeah they might be talking behind your head" and people are gonna say shit to you that is hurtful for no reason ("You dont get thick skin without getting burned"). He references himself as a 'terrible sight" but comes to terms with who he is and just says "Hey man you're gonna be okay, just dont think it'll live up to what you think its gonna be. It isn't."

  • @jbakemer6511

The film trick at the end where they are going forward and the elements are going back, is another simple trick. They just filmed tyler moving backwards through that scene so when they reversed it, it looks like hes moving forward.

    ok so ...
    1. the little thing is called NED, you gotta watch chlorine
    2. the reason why Josh does not move to the garage and then to the roof it's because these are Tyler's struggles, Josh is just always there to support him.
    3. They kept on adding flannel as the hype started to get bigger
    4. those are not actors, they are actually fans that were chosen randomly to participate in the video
    5. when he falls back down is the representation of when they took one year off of social media and made this new concept album called trench. the album is meant to have no single hits and it's a whole story about this city called DEMA. the album was not made for the mainstream but for the fans. this is their attempt at trying to go back to their roots
