Devastating loss. My favorite conductor. The nicest, the most generous, the widest repertoire, the most modest. The first Italian for Berlin; the reluctant celebrity. Debussy would have loved this performance.
My goodness this is the most beautiful interpretation of this piece i've ever heard, i love how maestro Abbado brought out the flutes at 9:17, and how he kind of sped up that crescendo at 9:20. And i absolutely love how the horns seamlessly crescendo in and out of the texture at 9:20 and 9:25. I've never heard that section being played like that before and it's absolutely beautifully executed. The music world misses you Mr. Abbado.
Such a magnificent maestro and an incredible group of talented musicians, one of the best orchestra's I've ever had the pleasure of listening to....just beautiful! Bravo!
Wonderful, wonderful! At 15:00, orchestra loving it, conductor loving it, you know the audience is loving it...a joyous time was had by all. 😁 Thank you, Debussy!♥️
La Mer is unrivaled by any other Sea music This splendor of voices can not attach it Speaking of The Sea, this masterpiece is the sea itself This fabulous masterpiece invites me into the wonderful world of comfort
01:25 __ De l’aube à midi sur la mer - Très lent 10:01 __ Jeu des vagues - Allegro (dans un rytme très souple) 16:50 __ Le Dialogue du vent et de la mer - Animé et tumultueux
2004 Carlos Kleiber death 2014 Claudio Abbado death Une perte immense. Personne n'est irremplaçable, dit on, mais il y a cependant des personnes particulièrement difficiles à remplacer. Ciao Maestro !
9:10 why is there no crescendo? It's not what Debussy wrote! I know Abbado wants the woodwinds to stick out. But to keep everyone else soft in order to do that just saps the energy out of that magical passage.
@@pearspeedruns The video says it's Lucerne Festival, but it should be acknowledged by the uploader. There are centuries of training and hard work on that stage and it's not right to ignore that.
Amazing~ I so love hearing an orchestra conducted by Claudio Abbado❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Descanse en paz, Maestro.
sublime
22:27~ The orchestra sounded like how the waves look in the movie "Dune" on planet Caladan. 🥰
What a glorious performance. Abbado lets the orchestra sing; not getting hung up with controlling each and every nuance.
I love this orchestra!!!

21:03...my god... Amazing version
thank you
the oboist is Bart Schneemann, of the Dutch Wind Ensemble (and formerly the Rotterdam Philharmonic).
Isn't it Albrecht Mayer? with Yoshii-Smith playing second?

Cette remarque aurait dû être commentée 100 fois !!😮
Where’s the gong????
Debussy’s La Mer is well suited to Turner’s seascape paintings
Is that Natalia gutman leading the cellos?
Does anyone know who that young cellist is at 20:56?
Is that Sabine Meyer?
Where's the trumpet at 24:27?

So I guess only the conductor is important enough to be acknowledged? The orchestra doesn't matter?
Jim P Do you know which orchestra this is?
