Thanks for uploading this. I've been really stressed out with school, haven't even started studying for FM yet. This all sounds really cool now that you've given us your experience!
Sitting for my first exam in july and could not be more excited! Internship starts in December so we’ll see where it goes from there. Your videos are a blessing!!
It's very interesting to get a sneak peek behind the scenes of insurance companies! You're videos are great! I am sure the presentations were as well 👍😁
I am about to graduate now. I really wish I could know things earlier and done at least one internship. It is so hard to find a job now since I don't have experience.
A very motivating video Brea! I’m currently using excel for basic accounting (balance sheets/ account payables/ invoices etc). I’ve recently bought a “Learn VBA” book. Aiming to make some progress this year .
I live in India so I don't know very well if the comment contest applies to me. Anyway, I am currently studying for CS1 and have done no internships in actuarial field as such. I love the way you've described your internship experience. I didn't really know these internships would work in projects. I didn't know what to expect :)
While I was exploring about this profession, yours is the only channel where I got the first hand information from the actuary itself. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us, Brea!!
An Actuarial internship sounds like the perfect boost to your resume needed to get an entry level job. Where I live there is an Actuaries office close to my home and I have talked with their Vice President before about getting an internship or entry level job.
I have a ton of Excel spreadsheets I've made over the years and thanks to your videos, I'm making them even better :) Quick question - I'm 46 years old and have been out of college for 23 years now. Can I even get an actuary internship or is there a similar option? Thanks!
Hey Jason! You can start by looking for entry-level positions. Since you already have a background in insurance, you may even be able to move directly into a full-time actuarial role.
Presentations are not a big problem for me. I think once I get a job and I get the hang of it, doing presentations would not be a big deal. The big deal is first to find a job
It's so strange that you hated doing presentations cause that's the part I absolutely love. Before going into the actuarial field I taught math for 6 years at a high school. Present information to a bunch of uninterested teenagers 6 times a day 5 times a week and you get good at this.
Yes I did. I couldn't do a presentation without preparing! I usually spend about 5 or so hours on it probably, but I was able to prepare during work time.
I would really love to help. However getting internship means working on your credentials and skills. You may explore the basics, learn Excel or maybe a programming language. You may also keep an eye out for openings in insurance companies, consulting firms, or even government gigs. Networking and honing your skills is key, so hit up LinkedIn and connect with actuaries in the field. Hope this helps! 😊
It's great that you're applying to internships. I don't know too much about the company and position to offer any thoughts or criticism, but wishing you luck on your application!
Hi there! My expertise is in the US and Canadian actuarial journey, so I'm not sure of the best advice for getting an in India! Sorry, I wish I could help more!
In some countries (mainly third world countries) some companies will keep you working as an intern with an intern salary and without medical insurance for as long as they can, but you have all the responsibilities and are liable to all the legal consequences of your actions without a union to represent you. Not fair.
@@Nick-so7ui And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Working in a first world country is much much better than working in a third world one, not only because of the salary but also because companies can't get away with not respecting the law so easily.

I feel you. I’m in the same boat
There are still some internships available to fresh graduates, and depending on your experience entry-level positions are also a great start!
I have not done any projects but listening to your story has been very helpful!
I used Excel to analyze an event in a racing game I play to determine how much the car would cost to obtain, given various scenarios!
Wow that's so cool!

I'm 2 like 2 hear about different people from different professions 😊😊👍
Thanks for the information Brea!

This was a very informative video presentation. Once I was intern and did a presentation on an Air Traffic Control accident.

How often do actuaries have to do presentations? I’m shy so that sounds a bit dreadful 😂
Depends on the position. Some never! Some probably on a daily basis.
Actuary next...🔥🔥🔥

In the past you made a video in colaboration with Ellellevlog. Are you planning on doing more videos with other actuaries in the future?
