+Josef Stremick I think that's also where, or when, I saw it. I'd never heard the Danse Macabre until then, and to me this film has been associated with that music ever since.
Going through my parents classical CDs today, Saint-Saëns Danse macabre jarred my memory of this film which I had seen at Sundance or some alternative animation festival so long ago. It took some searching, IMDB lists over 250 films that use Danse macabre, several being animated shorts. (Google and TH-cam were negative for this film searching for "Danse macabre short animation" so I submit this tag suggestion.) I'd forgotten the story, but it lives up to my recollection of how enjoyable and bizarre it was. The kinematics of the stone throwing is engrossing! A very rewarding deep-dig!
absolutely adore this film. remember seeing this in the animation film festival and it has hooked me ever since. beautiful animation. funny, heartwarming, touching, amazing work of art.
You're clearly one of those animation maestros, aren't you? You have great ideas. And what's the short's representative of? And you could make this short into a movie with a movie studio's help.
Funny that you say that, Richard was a big part of me becoming an animator. Early in my career, I had the opportunity to meet Richard, go out for a few beers and learn about animation. His sales rep in Chicago was a very good friend of mine. After letters and a few more beer meetings, I decided on a career in animation.
@@DanzigFan-vq3zf Well, I am glad you think so, it was my first film and that is how first films go. I have since worked to do voices when needed, but professional voice talent is so much fun to work with, I will always take a backseat. Thanks for your compliments and I am very glad you enjoyed "Lazar"
@Gavrilo Gnatovich Strangely, it showed under Elvis' Tom Parker...somewhere there's a glitch...it showed only 2 movies actually ("Elvis" which was way after Parker died & this animated short) with him as executive producer... Cool video btw...I slightly feel like I saw it when it originally aired or sometime before internet life lol
No intentional symbolism, I was a young artist at the time I made this film and I wanted to depict an odd world. I would say that I was not in full control of what I was doing at the time, I just ran with it. I was experimenting. Putting these characters in dresses grounded the film in our world instead of creating some other worldly costume, and I thought it was kind of funny, I guess. The cop did wear a cartoon depiction of a bikini my aunt used to wear:)
I love this animation, and not to mention you picked a perfect score to add to the story
Thank you
So glad I finally tracked this down! I saw it at an animation festival in Boston in the late eighties. One of my favorite animated shorts.
I am very glad you did too. Thank you for your compliments, I am very grateful to any who have enjoyed my work.
Wow what a wonderful piece. !!!! I love it
😉
The best use of Saint-Saens' "Le Danse Macabre" ever! The animation is flawless!
A true classic example of individual vs society story
Thanks
thanks

I underestimated this. Why is this so goddamn underrated?
Thanks
I saw this as part of the _Second Animation Celebration_ back in 1989 and always wanted to see it again! Thank you so much for posting this!!!!

+Cast Iron Chaos One of my all time favorite pieces of music. I used to listen to it on a record my folks had when I was a kid.
+Josef Stremick Thanks Josef, and glad you enjoyed the film.

Anybody have any idea which orchestra is performing Saint-Saëns's "Danse Macabre" on the soundtrack?
I might possibly still have the info in my records. I will give it a try within the week....Sorry, it is from way back when....
Amazing.
Thanks

marvelous
I like this, it's like the first 3 seasons of attack on titan cut down into a 11 minute episode.
As an old guy, I don't get the reference, but glad you enjoyed.
@@gavartist you should check it out, it's about a society trapped within walls and subject to the rules of a wall king and wall church.
If I would contact Knock Knock Cartoons Studios,
I would make a pilot episode to a Show for Disney called "AndrewTopia Kids".
Awesome❤❤❤❤
thank you
Reminds me a lot of Richard William's work.

@@GavriloGnatovich Where did you study
BFA Painting at Boston U. Self taught animation
Larry from the podcast "Monster Party" sent me here!
Well, you got here.
That's how it ends!
I love this film! Really interesting. But a little question, who were the voice actors for this?
Me, me and me again..hahaha At the time, that is all I could afford
So you were the single voice actor behind this short, You done a wonderful job on the voices, keep up the good work!

@@GavriloGnatovich yeah, I’m glad I enjoyed it as well. May have taken you 6 years to get this done but it was worth it in the final product
What's wrong with Lazar's leg?
it's a long story:)

Info on a google search includes this as having Tom Parker as executive producer! True?🤔

Different Tom Parker from Colonel Tom Parker of Elvis fame, but an amazing guy.
@@GavriloGnatovich 😲lol
Was there some symbolism with all the oppressors wearing women's clothing? Id like to get your thoughts on it
