I bought a hitch mounted carrier from Princess Auto for about $60 on sale.
Plenty of room for smelly fuel tanks.
As an alternative I also us a large Rubbermaid plastic container to hold the fuel containers in the hatchback.
Great idea!
Wonderful video thank you for sharing stay warm, safe, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
If your car has a cloth interior, it will absorb the fuel odor. Smelly but will not harm you heath wise.
As for your diesel heater, maybe look into hooking it to a marine fuel tank (25L) with a quick disconnect. (you tube vids)
0:50 I have a couple of those BOOT/SHOE trays that you keep by the back door so the snow melts in them. They have about a 1.5" lip. They make a good tray to set gas cans in and not get any on your car.
1.25 gallons. I love mine. I got 2 installed in my RV with the propane as a back up. I run the LP just to heat my pipes and keep the floor warm. I'm actually going to get a 3rd diesel heater just in case one quits working in a blizzard
They're great little units for sure!
Made me chuckle when you said its warm.
Put the gas cans inside of a trash bag and close up to keep the leaking fumes from escaping on the way home. Also get a rubber gasket for the fuel cans will help. Then figure out some hinges for the roof of your diesel heater so you can raise it to refuel using a funnel. Thanks for sharing.
Been doing the garbage bag thing for a while now..it helps!
@@gypsyjenna Put a plastic boot tray under the cans. Any spillage would end up in your upholsdery without it. It would be real easy to just pull the tray out of the car when not in use.
Ok I would put a hinge on the cover tops to generator & diesel heater. That way you can lift cover top and have lots of room to fill both.
I have the diesel heater you showed the picture of (well mine is all black) it's not hard to put together, I did it and I haven't blown up yet... Lol. But I just run 2 Jerry cans and the 20 ish liters last a week but I don't run it flat out either. Only problem with the bigger diesel tank is remembering to check your levels occasionally.
These heaters are great but not without issues. . If you replace them yearly they are pretty reliable but they are easily repairable for someone with the skills you have. You have dealt with things far more difficult than these heaters. I would increase the size of the fuel tank though. Easy for you to do and any parts are pretty reasonable. I thoroughly admire the way you learn and adapt.
Can't wait to see the +10c temperatures, still -10c here. Love the nature sounds from your front yard 👍.
If you're running it on the automatic setting it will run on high until it reaches the set temperature, and in the hrt setting it will last longer.
You can use a disposable latex glove over the Jerry can then screw the cap on over top.It traps the fumes allot more than what you get with a small black o ring and a seal made by plastic on plastic.
Good idea thanks
Hi!I have this heater too.Bud in my system going the cold air from my camper into the heater and the hot air from the heater in my camper. My tank for the heater is 30 liters. My heater is too outside from my camper. You need only a second pipe from the camper into the heater!
Also I did the wet paper towel with some Ash on it and it cleaned the glass nice on the stove
You should be able to set it up on your phone on blue tooth. This way you can turn it on when your away from home! also get a video security camera and you could also monitor what is going on from your home also!
Nice job, thanks for sharing, big hugs from MN
I got a random E-08 error code last week. Turns out I forgot to loosen the fuel cap "enough". I gave the cap an extra full turn the next morning and it worked fine.🤷🏾♂️ Thanks for the entertaining and interesting video Jenna.👍🏾
Ohh. I think my cap has a little pin hole at the top. If u take out the insert and remove the little seal it might help. Then again it could cause leakage if you are driving down a bumpy road eh?
@@gypsyjenna
Actually that's not a bad Idea. I usually leave it at less than 3/4 if I know I'm going to drive in a day or two.
Better having the air intake inside rother than outside, as the heater is trying to heat freezing cold air, if the air intake is inside the heater is recycling the warmer air inside and keeping a more stable temperature and reducing the fuel consumption
Thanks for the vids. I'm going to be living in a camper trailer as well. I'm kinda scared, but your content has made me way more optimistic. You are super cool...
Awesome!! Thank you Jenna! You know I've been waiting on this video lol ... I just stopped asking about it, cuz I didn't want to become annoying lol. The warmer weather is coming my friend ... The time for blizzards is almost over 🥰♥
Great info on the diesel heater. If the prices come down then I may consider one. I use the CT flyers dipped in water to clean the glass on my woodstove. Works like a dream. Take care, the snow is melting quickly.
just found your videos like what you are doing lots of info thanks.
Thanks for being here!
Jenna on your fireplace glass doors. Use oven clear spray and let it set for minute wipe right of super fast. Great video thanks.
Thanks. I have just been using a glass scraper. Takes *most* of the creosote off lol
Jenna try wetting some newspaper and dip it in water then ash from the stove it takes everything off the glass the just use water/paper towel to final clean it.
Put hinges on your metal roof. It would sure make it easier to fill your tanks.
Another top show Jenna interesting to no how much diesel
Your diesel ⛽ heater uses in a 24 hr period
As fuel prices are increasing around the world 🌎
Even in Australia 🇦🇺
Johno Alice Springs 👍

You have dealt with things far more difficult than these heaters. I would increase the size of the fuel tank though. Easy for you to do and any parts are pretty reasonable. I thoroughly admire the way you learn and adapt. I am on the 3rd year on my heater but I had to take it apart for cleaning once and replace 1 fuel pump. Lots of help on utube for these
Sorry about the double comment. My phone is having issues and does that sometimes
Another good information video Jenna !!
I have one too ,DUD!! Comes on during the DAY!!!
That's different lol
you could put a hinge on the roof panel, it would make it easer to fill the tank.
Thank you for posting Jenna and the information on the diesel heater. I have been thinking of getting one for a source of back up heating and like you to keep things from freezing. Good the Blue Crasher gets good mileage with rising fuel cost. Take care.
I just checked the web page for what I assume is your heater and it comes with a small 12V pump.
It should be relatively easy (next summer, not now) to modify your heater with small valves and hoses to draw the fuel directly from a 20 liter container or the internal 5 liter container.
No more need to refill the small internal tank.
Good idea. A larger tank would be ideal
I cannot post the link to what I think is your heater but I am 99% certain that it is the correct heater.
To be done safely you would have to purchase the correct fittings.
Also, I would mount the 20 liter container so that the top of the yellow can is no higher than the top of the diesel heater.
Finally, AFAIK your diesel heater was meant to be installed inside the RV and heat the much warmer air inside the RV.
By installing your heater outside you are having to heat up the cold outside air so the efficiency of your installation will be lower.
I understand that you don't want the smelly diesel inside the RV so it will just cost a bit more.
@@carld3184 all good info, thanks. I don't use the heater much, just as a back up so it's good for that. I will probably be using it more when it warms up too. Just on the chillier nights so it shouldn't be too bad fuel wise then
You could always get a rear hitch carrier and tie it down to that. Or get a roof rack and put it up there
solar light might have a piece of card board between the battery and housing that needs to be removed?
Hi Jenna..i found when i use to take gas can in my car..i use to tie blue bags around them before i put them in my car..keep away alot of the smells..just a though
Here the math to calculate time on the fuel. Pump is always .02ml x pulse/ temp x 60min x 60 hour example .02x 1.7 x 60x 60= 122.5 divide 5 liter at least 24 hour out of the tank of fuel. My next question is do you have a breather hole in the cap? If not, what happens the pump pumps until it equalize the pressure and a tank. In short it also know as a vacuum lock. Quick fix make sure there’s a breather hole.
Thanks and there is a breathing hole in cap
The Fahrenheit overlays are appreciated 🙂
😊
I just picked up a DH a few days ago. It’s just like yours but mine has the other blue controller.
I can easily go 15hrs but that’s not full blast.
What’s the burn time on your stove? 6hrs?
Do you jam every little part of the stove full of wood?
Ya I know what you mean about coming home and it’s cold inside. When I was living in my old motorhome I was working out in the oil field and it was about a 45 minute drive from where I was camped. I took notes of different settings for my stove. I had an air intake, and I also had a chimney damper as my stove was just a home built stove I made out of a piece of oil field pipe that I found in the ditch on my travels. Lol.
I would take notes of the intake setting as well as the chimney damper location to try to figure the stove out so I could get the longest burn times because sometimes I was gone for 16 or 17 hours before I come home and my dogs water dish on the floor was frozen.
So what I did was I had an endless supply of firewood because I was just out in the bush, and there was pine and spruce and poplar all around me so I would take a large green unsplit piece of spruce and put it on a bed of good hot coals. Then I would stack dry split wood all around it.
Often I came home after 12-15hrs and it would still be 15°C inside and -20°C outside or colder.
I had one of those little digital tattletale thermometers, and it would show the inside of the camper would actually get down to as cold as -5, but then at some point the stove would really start taking off so by the time I got home it was nice and warm but I can only imagine how much smoke was pouring out of the chimney while I was gone ha ha. So my fire was smouldering away for quite some time, and then eventually it would ignite, and I had to make sure I left enough air intake open to feed the fire but yet not enough to have an over fire and melt the place down. Lol.
Maybe it’s been said already, but could you not just put a hinge on the top part that goes over your diesel heater? Just so you could fill it up easier?
And I think if you left it on the lowest setting, it would still heat your camper up pretty good.
I have mine in my little shop it’s a 12 x 20 with an A-frame roof and there’s gaps everywhere including the whole top ridge and it still heats up my shop pretty good at temperatures between zero and 10°C so I think once it’s insulated it should do a good job.
Those little diesel heaters are great little units when they work.
If you ran your exhaust through a metal pipe on the skirting of your trailer, it could throw some more heat under there keeping things like sewer and water, tanks, warmer. No wasted heat that way and also you could run the main heat vent in the into the skirting as well and then just have it rise naturally up through some vents.
I need to watch more of your videos to find out your winter set up but I think I seen one that said you do not use your running water during the winter but you have all the stuff there to easily be able to run your water inside you guys don’t get anywhere near as cold as we do here in Alberta and I know it can be done here so it wouldn’t be too hard to do it there I’m thinking.
Great video.
It's a lot to worry about in winter eh? Whether the place will be warm enough while you're gone. Glad I have the diesel heater for that reason. I set the timer to come on when I know the fire will go out. I meant to put hinges on the DH housing but forgot. I have a transfer system now that is super easy.
@@gypsyjenna haha ya there’s all kinds of stuff to do but it’s fun to come up with ideas to make it all work.
I’m in a mobile home right now it has it’s similarities for sure.
I could have the gas turned back on but I like the challenge of trying to be somewhat off grid.
Are you enjoying the lifestyle and see it as a hobby or is it just a thing to do to save money and live with less?
I think for me the only reason I’m not living out in my toy hauler versus in my home is because it’s such cheap living here. If it was expensive, I’d never be doing this I think I’d be in that camper doing what you are.
I enjoy it and also enjoy the freedom of cheaper living. It keeps you busy for sure but in the end you aren't paying a large power corporation or a landlord for convenience
Jenna has got this off grid living figured out !!!!....except for the solar light,,,,, LOL ✌
Just use the 5 gallon plastic can itself as the fuel tank. Have a spare one as well and just swap them out when one runs dry. No need to use the internal tank if you need a bigger one.
so i hope you have lots of luck with your new toy you will get get the hang of it soon enough
Someone already touched on trailer hitch " baskets " Canadian Tire could get expensive at the start up ( buying and install hitch ) and basket will run over $ 500.oo one time deal. Most if not all solar lights do have an on - off switch. Do you go to a brewing center or in 5 gallon buckets at home in your case a buddies place ? I would recommend canning your beer it's a bit more expensive but you eliminate the beer turning skunky and washing out bottles , I know me and a friend used to bottle our own beer 15 gallons every weekend we stopped counting at 25,000 pints that's when we switched to two liters plastic pop bottles . I'll let you in on a little secret we would brew Stout and fill up Coke a Cola bottles and bring to the beach or outdoor concerts and no one the wiser .
Yes for sure. I have made beer several times before and just do them up in old pop bottles but cleaning and sanitizing them is very tedious. However, you end up with about 66 beers for around $20 can't complain there lol
Cool!😎👍
I have made wine in the past, some ideas, dandelion wine and apple wine make great wines. 🍷🥵
You need to put that diesel heater inside the house so the thermostat works right!!! Right now it is getting false readings. Because it is so cold outside the thermostat will not work right!❤
Get a small trailer to hook up to your SUV to put your gas at diesel in
When you ran the diesel heater while you were out. Did you have it set on high, because it's only supposed to last 24 hours on low
Jenna put on Hz mode on 1.8Hz and than will take less fuel same heating
Thanks, will look into that!
Off topic...I remember the Jenna days when you were NEVER on camera. What changed? I remember the first video you were on camera the comments went nuts. Bottom line is, although the RV and your homestead is great, Jenna is the real star!
Last week it was 83f in North Carolina...just saying.
Wow nice and warm there..jealous. I don't know what changed I guess I either got tired of people complaining or I realized it wasnt very personable of me to be behind the cam and not the lens lol
@@gypsyjenna just wondering....I believe your viewers like seeing your face! Stay warm.
When you get to the gas station after you fill your tanks up wrap up plastic trash bag around them temporary fix for odor
Should have mention earlier , if you put a zip lock baggie over the hole in the gas can before putting the lid on you will notice a tight fit.
bonjour Très bonne installation peut tu me dire si on peu le laisser dehors se chauffage et t'il étanche merci
If you want to see how much fuel it uses, look at the machines specs. Obviously, insulation and the more temperature differential you're attempting to overcome makes fuel consumption variable. However, the unit will have a maximum and minimum. For example, my 8KW consumes .48 liters per hour flat out. It has a 5L tank.... 5 divided by .48 = 10.41 hours minimum. They are designed to get you through 1 night of sleeping so you don't freeze to death. The longest it'll run? That calculation is more difficult .18 liters per hour. Same five liter tank... 5 divided by .18 = 27.7 hours. However, if its not that cold, it could last for days!
use some channel lock pliers to tighten the lid. dont strip it,,,
Are you on the north shore or south shore of NS?
Nova scotia eh ? i grew up there . im living in Edmonton in a 19 ft rv . i have my heater inside but im get one like yours as a backup. i us a wood stove as well. hope you’re doing well and thanks for the video . ill sub your channel.
Thanks for tuning in and I am sure you will have a much colder winter out in Edmonton than I will here. Stay safe and warm out there!
Are you running it on automatic or are you using the hrts settings 🤔
Oh it's on the hertz setting now that u mention it
Good info do you have vid on your woodstove setup ?
I dont think I have a video on the set up but I do have a video somewhere on the list of woodstove maintenance which involves cleaning out the creosote etc
@@gypsyjenna I do the same lifestyle as you but in southern Ontario but am moving to my off grid property in northern Ontario this fall retire I have sam
e diesel heater as your as well good vids I will look for the maintenance video
Awesome, so far it's been a great little heater!
Can u get a luggage rack and tow hitch put on for hauling ur fuel
I don't have a tow hitch unfortunately
Maybe a tow hitch with one of those luggage racks 4 the cans or an overland roof rack so there not in your car
Carry your gas and diesel containers on your roof rack. Secure them with straps and bungy cords and spare yourself the smell inside.
Hauling stuff in your microcar is something to adjust to... early days
I use a lot of Diesel, Fuel For Life cologne...
just subed , good info . where is that , nice place love the nature .steve u.k
Thanks! NS, Canada
Here In UK I have a put in a back up diesel heater plumed into house living room from outside, heaters in a insulated sealed steel box only under intake and exhuast are open to outside, with a heat vent in and return vent from inside house into sealed box to recirculate through heaters intake, so It is not having to heat cold air saving fuel ready for predicted power cuts here!, you may here people say it will create condensation to recirculate the air. that is not true as the burned fuel dose never come into the building like say a gas fire dose, I have it set to the lowest setting and I am maintaning 20 to 21c. in the living room with doors open to rest of house with outside temp at 6 centirgrade. using so little fuel maybe a pint in 8 hours. Its so cheap even with our high diesel prices, £1.89 per litre, that i am going to try, not using my gas central heating this winter to keep the bills down!
your set up is heating cold air making the heater work harder. try sending the heated air back into fan hole, even if you don't have heater in a closed box, this should save you some fuel.
Thanks for all the info!
Great video , I subscribed, cool, do you know Bad Chad customs he from Nova Scotia also , have good day from North Dakota
Thanks and I do not know him, have to check him out
I am new here. Jenna do live on someone’s property? It must be hard living off grid in Canada??
I am on family land.. the winters can be tough but where I live isn't as bad temperature wise as other provinces due to being on the coast
Your pump rate was at 3 instead of 1, when the timer started the heater!
get a trailer hitch gass can platfore [ approx., 2'X3'. Gas Outside any spills don't absorb into your vehicle rugs = stinks 4ever...
Do you still have your cats? I saw a glimpse of your catio last video 🐈
Thee cats are with their other parent in a cozy apartment 👍
@@gypsyjenna no wonder you weren't concerned about your space freezing while you were gone..... absolutely a beer or wine brew video in the future 👍🇨🇦
That syphon hose with shake attachment is new to me, and makes sense
You gave that dud solar light EVERY opportunity lol
Yup, guess I will just have to replace it
Stick the container inside a plastic bag rubber tube the top
Why don’t you get a little hand pump from harbor freight tools. It’s easy and no mess
I myself have a 2005 school bus that I am converting into an Camper / Rv home to live in. I use solar, diesel heater, generator, put a 30 amp service in bus. Have a 100 amp breaker box installed inside, I am building it with all home appliances, has a House 🚽 toilet, 34” x 34” shower pan. Tankless water heater, propane tanks , 15,000 Lb max pull tow hitch. 7 way plug & 4 way .lots more , just made screen windows for fresh air no bugs . Thanks for your information on living off grid.

Have thought about it in the past. I think that will have been my last wine batch for a while. Might do a beer kit next lol
It’s not Diezel but Diesel! Just a word that’s always bugged me!
🔥🏕👍♥️
I got the idea from you to try mine in the house. It exhausts into the airtight stove below and heats up the top pretty well. Most of the noise comes from the fireplace blower. We are not allowed to burn wood in places in California when the inversion layer hits and keeps the smoke down low. I tested the diesel burner to see how viable it would be as an alternate heat source. Works good enough to keep on top of the wood stove for the Winter. I refuel with a 5 liter jug with push button nozzle and have not spilled a single drop all week long. The entire unit comes off the wood stove top in 30 seconds by removing one wingnut. The battery is lithium and lasts 16 hours on a charge. The 1/10th watt LED that I added inside shows the fuel level from 30 feet away.

I bought one too from Home Hardware and it is junk.
it makes no sense
Jenna you can fix seal around gas tanks input or you could just put them inside plastic bag while transferring insides car and that should help with your smell problem
Thanks, good idea
