My husband actually just gifted me a laser to be able to cut my leather out I've been using it for about a week now and I found a few use a Q-tip with some isopropyl alcohol on it it wipes the Chara away from the holes without muddying up the leather too much which isn't too bad if you're planning on dying it anyway, and no dirty thread.
Also when you get the air assist use it when cutting but don't use it when Engraving, engraving it blows char everywhere.

Thanks Tim!!. Ha Ha My daughter wants to go all Goldfinger on her Barbies. Funny. (how many get that reference). I noticed on the site that there is a 'package' or set. They don't really tell you what is in the 'Package'. Plus, how do you focus this laser on different thicknesses of material. That is supposed to be really important for getting good results.

Hmmm I'm actually not sure what's in the package.
I should have showed how to focus it! I knew I'd forget something! It's pretty easy. There's a leg that flips down from the laser module and a set screw that locks the laser module in place. You flip the leg down, loosen the set screw and drop the laser down until the leg is resting on whatever you're cutting/engraving. You tighten the set screw again and flip the leg back up and it's at the right focal distance.

Tim and lasers… at first I was worried, but now I am very intrigued haha. Opens the door for many projects for you and personalized leather products for clients. Example, if I bought a wallet from you, taking my logo and etching it into the wallet on one side, and yours on the other. Or even my name/monogram. Very awesome laser you got bro.

UGH you are such an enabler... now I want one. I had considered getting a Glowforge but I read some unpleasant things about them not honoring their warranty and that's too much money for them to leave people hanging out to dry. Now if I could find the space for one of these babies I would love to have one.

How do i convert your templates from STL to SVG for lightburn while keeping the stitching holes? Also having trouble accessing your site today last night was fine today says sending back incorrect credentials. Thanks for making the templates!

I've been wanting to get one here recently. I have a project I'm doing where I think only a laser would work for it?

I had considered a laser cutter at one point, but realized I'd basically only be using it for artwork. I do find the char a bit messy and would be needing to clean up the surfaces then condition after each piece. More time doesn't always equate to more profits. Thanks for the content Tim. Cheers!🍺👍

Yeah I found cleaning up the char on the edges to be super easy. It does make a bit of a mess if you cut stitch holes. You're definitely right about more time not always meaning more money! Thanks for watching!

@@BlackFlagLeatherGoods there is a type of paper that you put on the leather prior to cutting, that minimises charring.

What type of paper do you put on the leather prior to cutting?? My husband got us an Atomstack x point pro laser so he can cut out my leather for me. It's amazing! Love it. Definitely a game changer when you are trying to be as efficient as possible. Thanks in advance! Love your videos!

I'm realistically no where near needing this. I worked as a CNC machine on mills for a while. I know the power of having something like this for precision and potential speed. I would love something to just push a button and let it do it's thing while I'm doing other steps. Again, not even asking anything so I'm just dreaming. I think a clicker press is more functional early on. I like this laser though...

Instead of writing a whole chapter, please watch makers muse take on open-frame lasers. they are bad. all of them.
At least put it in an enclosure and ventilate it to the outside. And don´t trust the toy safety glasses they include.
"Don´t stare into the pretty light with your remaining eye" as they say.
