    Is the Velvet drive still a good option for a 1:1 fitted to a cummins 6bt pushing 180 hp ..Boat is a fast italian design and the total weight will be 3300 lbs wet

    I have a velvet drive on a 1970 Riva - it is making no pressure at all (checked fluid level but nothing circulating through the cooler pipes ) is there any simple answer before we have to pull it all out and disassemble ?

      Hard to say. You should start by disassembling the oil pump. You do not need to open the transmission. look at minute 20:00 on the video.

    Is there such thing as a clockwise and anti clockwise AS1 - 70C Serial No 1118.1 or how is it possible to ascertain the rotation. Just i got 2 gearboxes from a boat and was told that one was clockwise and the other anti clockwise.

      Look at minute 21:20 of the video. Basically if the part number have "R" at the end it will be counterclockwise.

    Question for you: Why use Dex3 when Mobil 424 is required from velvet drive? V-drives

    • @ItaiLeshniak
      @ItaiLeshniak  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi John, My boat's spec calls for Dex3. On some newer models they changes to Mobil 424. You should use the same oil that was used before, do not mix oils.

    I have a mercrusier 340 hp velvet drive. Im pretty sure i hold 4.5 liters of atf fluid per engine. Can you confim that before i start my project ?

      My boat's service manual reads "71C In‐Line 1.66 Liter (1.75 U.S. Quart) Dexron lll Automatic Transmission Fluid" you should try to find your boat's service manual.

    My velvet drive shifts and goes in reverse without a problem, but the shaft wont turn when shifted in forward. Motor idles and revs without any issues. Curious if I'm looking at a complete transmission failure?!?

    • @ItaiLeshniak
      @ItaiLeshniak  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to tell. First test the Control Valve (in my other video) and test the oil pressure (I explained in this video).

    • @MrMedicAdnan
      @MrMedicAdnan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ItaiLeshniak When you say test the control valve, you mean take it out and make sure the inner piece slides in and out with a problem?
      What is really bothering me is that it worked fine before I changed the oil in it, but the oiled looked like shit, so I was feeling happy about the oil change and then it started slipping on me going forward on Saturday and on Sunday it wouldn't go forward at all.

    • @ItaiLeshniak
      @ItaiLeshniak  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MrMedicAdnan Maybe there is something stuck in one of the oil passages. If the forward clutch does not get good pressure it will slip. Make sure the Control Valve is clean and there is nothing stock in it and test the oil pressure when it's running. If you get good oil pressure in "neutral" and it drops a lot when you move to "forward" it will indicate a leakage in the forward clutch. If the pressures stays the same it indicates a clog in the oil lines.

    Why was the transmission completely disassembled just to change gearbox oil

    • @ItaiLeshniak

      To replace the oil seal.

    Nice video.. I have similar borgwarner drive.. but one of my engine is turning the wrong way.. can this be operated in revers but pushing boat forward??

    • @ItaiLeshniak
      @ItaiLeshniak  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No! It is not strong enough in reverse, you will burn the clutch. The simple fix is to get an opposite direction propeller.

    Thanks - this guy does some great videos on transmissions in case you need it - th-cam.com/video/2GsXT37v8Aw/w-d-xo.html... Another tip I saw - if you're going to hammer a seal in place, put some sticky grease around the rubber lip that has the spring to stop the spring popping off while it's being hammered in. If the seal's spring pops off, you won't know and it will damage the shaft.
