Man I had the flu something fierce! Been down 6 days today is day 8 doing pretty good but I have no gas in the tank. I try to do something and I start sweating a bunch and got zero energy. Real bummer! Have not been out detecting since I got sick. My last trip out I only made it 2 hours total and barely made it back to the car. Glad I am on the tail end of this. I know exactly how you are feeling.
Happy New Year Big C! Been 1 year with the MD Hobby, only MD is the XTP and I’ve started now this past week notching out and the silver ring recovery has increased a lot, so has the quarters!! I still learn from your VD’s with all the other test and machines! Hopefully the Eq800 or Legend is next for me! Thanks Calabash hope 2024 is a great year for you and your family!
Happy New Year to you and your family Calabash! Today’s test sure makes me glad I have the LG24 for my Legend. I hope you’re fully recovered real soon.
With the development of target separation on these newer machines with stock coils doesn't that make these small coils unnecessary on modern machines and more of a gimmick to get you to spend more money?? I've used small coils on older machines and the only advantage I've found is making it easier to hunt tighter areas like in the woods. Just think this is more older thinking where with older machines you got an advantage with smaller coils in trashy areas but with multi frequency and better target separation these smaller coils are no longer needed. Just my thoughts on it but great video and hope you feel better soon!!
I used to almost always use the 9.5x6 coil on my Legend, but near the end of last summer, I started using the 11" round coil again. I'm getting a couple of inches more depth from the 11", but with no significant improvement in separation. Although the smaller coil is lighter of course. I don't think I'm getting much better separation with the elliptical coil, because with the main detection field of any DD coil being a narrow strip from front to back, the separation ability of any DD coil is already very good. In addition to that, the modern SMF detectors have extraordinary separation speed to begin with, regardless of coil size.
The clearer answer would be it depends on the proxity of ferrous and non-ferrous material that is being scanned. A physically smaller coil has an advantage of not covering both *IF* the ferrous and non-ferrous is spaced apart outside the size reach of the coil. In that scanrio, the smaller coil has the advantage where it doesn’t rely so much on the control head’s software separating the received signal response. Otherwise, the larger coil should get a bit more depth and cover a larger area over the span of swing saving swing time as well. Some may say they also like the smaller coil for less swinging fatigue over the course of an outing. With my Minelab Xtera ELite, I prefer my V8X coil tha came with the Expedition Pack for parks, especially when getting the coil into tighter spaces. For most fields, I’ll swing the stock V12X coil.
Happy New Yrs Cal. Does tone selection make any difference at all on these tests?? I despise pitch tones cause can't really use them in my sites. I run 5 tones on the Minelabs, 4 or 6 on legend, full tones on D2. Just wondering if and how tone selection effected things. Hope you feel better man. People are going down hard out west here. Crazy.
So I watched a video by CZkidd where he lowered the sensitivity to get the coil to reduce the coil from seeing targets to the sides. Maybe the M8 might perform better with lower sensitivity setting. th-cam.com/video/x4ayDRQvvto/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
The legend is a great machine for sure 👍
Thanks Calabash I love my LG24 coil on my Legend

Sorry to hear that

Happy new year!!
Thanks for vid and information and testing.
Thanks for showing this !!! 🎉🎉🎉🎆👍
I am wanting an M8 coil badly, I will be glad when they are more readily available

Happy new year!
Awesome demonstration.
Take care & get well.
Thanks, you too!
Great demo of comparable sized coils on each machine. 😊
Thank you!
Thanks for your efforts even with the man flu!! Gosh, get well soon :)
Thanks!
Interesting! Thank you!
Thank You!

Interesting thought!

No it will perform...Use offset in full tones.
For kicks and giggles wonder if you turn sensitivity down on manticore with the nail and nickel if it will hit the coin?
Good question!
Legend 500$
Manticore 1,500$
Just sayin..
As though m8 coil is reacting like a concentric coil when you raised coil
Be interesting to see what happens if you lower the sensitivity on manti to about 16 on the masking test
Tried that today..
@@calabashphotography1234 any better or did it lose it
It's tricky ain't it as so many variables
Very interesting. The m8 coil acts funny on separation test. Cant wait to get my hands in an m8. Love the LG24 its really amazing.
Let me know your findings..
Gotta be honest those are both pretty deep coils for their size.
I agree! Did you see my other comment about tone break?

True! Need to try it!
