I planted my first bergonias about a month ago . I’ve now realised why they aren’t waking up as my greenhouse isn’t heated ! I’m bringing them into my utility now Thanks for your video!
Its March 12 and I am attempting to start my first cascading begonias. Your video was very helpful too me as I didnt even know which way to put the corns in the soil! Thanks for the helpful tips and wish me luck!
This is my first year of growing begonias. The company I got my tubers from say it’s best to put them in a windowsill but they don’t say anything about putting them in soil. Which way is the best?
You are the first person to not cover the tubers with an inch of soul on top. Can you tell me why you don't cover yours? I'm in zone 10a Florida. Thank you!
Dam and Blast I just planted mine about a inch deep do you think they will germinate, they been in greenhouse for two weeks no sign of any shoots. Or should I dig them back up and start again and re plant like you have done?
They may rot they dont like been wet too much they should just be touched into compost about couple of 5-10 mm in, they are a pain sometimes to get going but worth it when they flower. I grow them every year but always find odd one never comes
So glad about the tip re plant them on their sides if unsure! Never seen anything like these that arrived in a pack pack through post...never planted anything much at all to be honest so fingers crossed 🤞
Hi Having watched several videos regarding starting Begonias, I've followed everyone's instructions and yes MY corms are starting to sprout. What I don't understand is, when the corms are transferred into say hanging baskets how does one STOP WATER ENTERING THE CONCAVE PART OF THE CORM, BECAUSE EVERYONE SAYS DO NOT let water get into the cavity of the Corm. I like most people cannot see into the top of hanging baskets and yet nobody ever shows the watering of them when fully matured. What am I not understanding. Any help is appreciated. Thank You.
Stand on a chair to get a view from above the basket and pour the water around them gently from a jug or something with an aim-able stream, or alternatively take the hanging basket down for a few mins while you water them.
@@stuartwild2081 Apologies if that's funny or something, just genuinely trying to help and explain how people water them and at the same time making sure the hollow stays dry. There's no other way, you either get up above the level of the basket or take it down. Cheers.
@@chrisefc3579 Its not the end of the world IN SUMMER. What you dont want is water pooling in there early spring as they can then rot but in summer because mine go in the borders all the way around the garden they just get watered with a hose.
muchas gracias por tus enseñanzas,me puedes decir si me vendes semillas de begonias de bulbo y cual es el costo a república de Colombia departamento de nariño municipio de pupiales
Hi Please would you be kind enough to answer my question regarding watering when the corms are in Hanging baskets and becoming mature. (See Previous Comment) Thank You.
Make sure your begonias are watered at least once a week, and more if they are planted in containers. Fertilize every two weeks with a liquid fertilizer to maintain heavy blooming and leaf growth.
@@GardeningforBeginners Thank You for the reply, but the question was "How to Water" because everyone says DO NOT LET WATER INTO THE CONCAVE PART OF THE CORM" how can one stop this if it is in a hanging basket, or when it rains, I cannot see into the top of my baskets to water them individually so what is the answer please. Help.

thanks for info, but how often do you water the tubers as they grow? Do you keep the soil quite dry?
Thank you. Very helpful. About to plant my first attempts. Hope not too late. It’s been so cold.
You can do it! Not late at all in fact a good time now we are warming up Cheers Ray

hmmm i bought tuber twice , both are buried , died on me twice , lol
Does one have to water the corms between planting and When sprouts appear? Thank you for advice. Deirdre

They may do but if Water is sitting on the tube in crevices it may cause tuber to rot . Cheers Ray 🌱🌻🌷

Much prefer to cover tubers the roots are all over a tuber so best to cover with light covering of compost as begonia society suggest
That's interesting Cheers Ray 🌱🌻🌷
@@GardeningforBeginners i suspect result will be the same either way

@@GardeningforBeginners brilliant, thanks Ray :)
The begonias from the range were tiny! I started my begonias off in feb and they've really taken off! Currently under protection and doing well.
Yes they where very small compared with the Wilco ones. Let's see if they grow Cheers Ray

Doesn't matter getting water on the top it will go away when they are growing just don't let them get waterlogged or they could rot.
@@mtf1460 Thank You that’s what I was worried about. Feel more confident now. 51 just sprouting both Pendula & Standard.
I tried mine but put it under the soil. Is it wrong?
Have seen them put in with AND without on info vids!
