    Wow. Just hugely impressed with the content of this interview, the rapport, the production, the good vibes, everything! Didn't realise SBL did these, now I'm going to start devouring them! Scott I hope you hit that sweet spot where you're getting a good income from YT (ads) without scrabbling too much. Keep up these excellent videos. The only problem is that they're so good it's going to be hard to balance time on the bass with them! Chapeau!

    Dave is very listenable and comes across very well in this .... its interesting on how he still has regrets on his early education ... I also feel that way ... the plus point is that it makes you really hungry for knowledge as you get older ..... the negative point is that you still feel its not enough ..... if only , as the adage goes that if we could go back in time to our younger selves with the life and music knowledge we have now ... there would be no stopping us .... my personal knowledge of jazz grew in 1987 working as a bar tender at the Blue Note in New York and visiting Radio City to see Pat Metheny, Jean Luc Ponty, Al Di Meola , Freddie Hubbard, Bobby McFerrin, Ray Brown etc etc etc..... Aaaaaaaanyway the point of this is mainly aimed at any young musician .... YOU (the up and coming musicians that is) have access to stuff like SBL who are sending you in the right direction .... A motivated direction with a solid purpose of musical life skills if you will!

      +Kick biker I feel exactly the same about my education too... went to a terrible school, and in a nutshell was a total drop out other than being able to play guitar pretty well. If I were to do it again... I'd be right at the front of the class with my hand high in the air asking all the questions under the sun, lol :)

    Hey Scott, I was just wondering, have you ever worked with the band Ozric Tentacles? It's a great English band. I was listening to a couple songs of theirs and I thought I heard some familiar chops.

    what's a fake book?

    • @kickbiker7920
      @kickbiker7920 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Cassel Krishnan
      A fake book is a collection of musical lead sheets intended to help a performer quickly learn new songs. Each song in a fake book contains the melody line,
      basic chords and sometimes lyrics - the minimal information needed by a musician
      to make an impromptu arrangement of a song, or "fake it". The fake book is a central part of the culture of playing music in public, especially in jazz,
      where improvisation is particularly valued. Fake books are not intended for novices: the reader must follow and interpret the
      scant notation, and generally needs to have thorough familiarity with chords and sheet music.
