ICEA LION Group and Kahawa Garrison Partner to Plant 21,100 Trees in Major Reforestation Effort

Mwihoko Camp, Githurai - Wednesday, 23 May 2024 ICEA LION Group, in collaboration with Kahawa Garrison and Miti Alliance, took part in a Tree Growing initiative at the Kahawa Garrison, Mwihoko Camp. ICEA LION Group contributed 11,100 seedlings reinforcing our unwavering commitment to green cover restoration as a fundamental component of our ESG agenda. This also aligns with our dedication to supporting the National Tree Planting Initiative led by H.E. President Ruto, which aims to plant 15 billion trees by 2032.
Camp commandant of the Kahawa Garrison barracks, Colonel S. N. Kasura reflected on the impact of the partnership, stating, "We are immensely grateful for the partnership with ICEA LION Group. Their support is pivotal as we strive to reach our goal of planting 8 million trees, with only 3 million left to achieve in the next three years. Today we have successfully planted a total of 21,100 seedlings geared towards enhancing biodiversity of this area and supporting our nation's ecosystem.”
Michael Waiyaki, CEO of Miti Alliance, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of planting indigenous trees specific to each area to ensure sustainability and benefit the local ecosystem.
Philip Lopokoiyit, Group CEO ICEA LION Group, reiterated the ICEA LION Group's dedication to environmental conservation, saying, "Supporting this initiative reaffirms our commitment to reforest and restore green cover in the country. We aim to take Kenya’s forest cover back to 30%. Without proper forest cover, there’s a significant impact on biodiversity and climate change."
