    Palmer explicitly said he wanted to play regularly at City or he wanted a loan. Guardiola told him that he either had to stay as apart of the squad, or if he really wants to move he would have to go permantly. It was Palmer's decision, not Guardiola's. Guardiola has admitted he thought he was an unbelievable talent, and every time he played for City, the fans knew he was a special young talent. As a City fan, I would've loved him to stay, but he wanted to leave for a guaranteed starting role, he would've been a 3rd choice rotational option off the right wing behind Bernardo and Foden, and I respect the balls it took for him to make the jump to Chelsea.

      @willstevo1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@austinlarrimore6542 But he wasn't coming back to fight for a place, he would've been coming back expecting a starting role. Guardiola is not an idiot, he has said many times how highly he rates Palmer before most people even knew who he was lmao. Palmer expressed his desire to play regular football, Pep realised that he wasn't going to satisfy his needs with the quality of competition we have in his area, and Palmer had to make the choice between slowly integrating into the City side, like Foden, or go elsewhere and get the football you want. Pep likely rejected a loan because he wanted him apart of the squad right now and to slowly integrate him, Palmer didn't want that.

    But yeah let's just keep talking about this narrative that he made a mistake with letting Palmer go.

    Pep didn’t get rid of palmer because he wasn’t good enough as everyone on here keeps indicating - pep has clearly shown from the past that he values squad harmony over quality, hence why he let Sane go, Torres go and now palmer - pep would rather have let them go than be unhappy on the bench and ruining the dressing room potentially - also palmer and pep agreed to let him go on loan, the plan wasn’t to sell until Chelsea put in an offer on deadline day

  • @BlueBloodPenn
    @BlueBloodPenn 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

    As usual, misrepresenting what actually happened. Pep didn't want to let him go. Pep and City wanted to keep Palmer but the player wanted basically to be a main guy and because City rotate so much and he has Foden, Grealish and Bernardo already ahead of him he's not guaranteed anything. He also was on a much lower contract at City since he had just come out the Academy so Chelsea came in with a big contract and promises to push him as a starter.
    This has happened multiple times at City. If a player wants to go they let them go. Pep does not want people in the dressing room that are more out for themselves than the team. Also, what has Palmer achieved so far? He's playing well in a mid-table team. It's only a mistake if City fall off and Palmer outperforms the City wide players over a significant period of time. And even then it with what they knew at the time it was still the sensible decision to let the player move on.

      @commonknowledge73 @commonknowledge73 not fully correct. That was mainly when they loaned him out.
      The moment he could have kept Luis was when he sold him to Villa. Villa applied for a work permit for Luis and he got one straight away. A year later City had a 15m option on him that elapsed. That was their moment. No work permit required any more.
      A bargain for any half decent player and didnt take it. Yet signed Kalvin Phillips for 45m 😅.
      The clause lapsed and so he signed a new deal with Villa. Now a full Brazil international and the best CM at a current top 4 side.

    13:43 people don't remember that Joey because it just didn't happen. Palmer didn't have to sit on the bench for 6 games and force his way into the side. He came on as a sub his first 3 games after moving from City, not exactly unheard of for a new signing late in the window. Since then he's started in 20/21 games he's been available for with 1 more sub appearance and when he has been subbed it's been before the 80th minute just 3 times in those 20 starts. So yeah bit unfair to paint it as Poch being reluctant to give him a go.

    Best example you can give is Grealish who looked like the second coming of Gazza 3 years ago at Villa (a mid table side like Chelsea are now) he stuck out like a sore thumb. Put him in that city team with the rigid structure and he really struggles to shine only a finite amount of players can do it. Put palmer in that city team now and he wouldn’t be shining the way he is for Chelsea. Plus the amount of penalties is propping up his stats. Look at foden or even a Watkins (not the same player I get it) don’t take penalties and still have better numbers. Think you need to relax a bit about him.

    We let De Bruyne and Salah go. These kinds of things happen, and there's no point in regret. Mainly because had they not left, De Bruyne, Salah, and currently Palmer would not get the gametime and experience they required to become the best versions of themselves.

    The eye test Is clear as day with Cole Palmer. You only need one season when a guy looks that good to the eye test to know that he's a future Superstar man city made a huge mistake. He would have had around 10 goals probably and double that in assist feeding Haaland. Not to mention another person to feed KPB who gets no service.

    Palmer would be a backup player once again, pep is always going to start kdb foden Silva in the 10 ahead of him on the wing Silva grealish alavrez foden so realistically yeah maybe they would be slightly better off but palmer would still just be another bench player vs a star in London

    I don't think Pep will miss him that much because he is the type of player who puts the team on his back and is the centrepiece. Pep prefers players that fit into systems and don't need to be every play to go through them

    Chelsea makes a bad signing they blame the owners. Chelsea make a great signing they say “ does poch deserve credit “ if you’re gonna blame the owners for the bad signings. Give them credit for the Palmer signing.

    Does anyone else think they’re jumping the gun with this? It’s his first season doing these stats and yeah he is performing and has put Chelsea on his back but I just think it’s a bit too early to judge. If he’s replicated what he is doing now next season then yeah I think he probably is as good as everyone is saying.

    Toure wasn't a good fit at Barcelona. He was mostly used to shield the back 4 when the team needed a bit more steel. He even played center back at times. He was never going to be the type of 8 that Pep needed. Cole Palmer on the other hand looks like he'd be great anywhere across the frontline for City. He was built in their academy to play in a Pep system. Given his height and his finishing, for me he could have started on the right and then eventually became a great false 9 after Haaland left. Pep did that with Messi. Obviously Messi is leagues above Palmer but I still think he'd have been great in that role. And Pep was so all in at Barca on having a team built from the academy and we've seen guys like Rico Lewis and Oscar Bobb come through and obviously Foden. Palmer should be there with them.

    Its not whether it was a mistake or not. But he sure must be looking at Palmer's performances and thinking, if he can get 20 goals and assists at a struggling Chelsea. How much more would he score at city?
    More so because he is young and would have made City's future more secured.

    Nonesense. Chelsea play scattershot tactically, City do not. Also, he wasn't, and still isn't good enough to displace the likes of foden, bernardo, grealish, KDB, etc. He scored 2 penalties(not especially good ones either) and a "hit and hope" deflection last night...

    Palmer is very similar to Foden, Bernado, KDB.... Pep wanted a different option... Not another inverted winger.... Speed, trickery option... Thats why he got doku....
