I saw on one of my social media groups that Home Depot had some nice sized Nepenthes Ventrata plants for sale. I decided to run down and see what they had. To my surprise, they actually did have a bunch of nepenthes ventrata plants waiting to be bought.
Most of the plants were in really bad shape. Most had beat up pitchers that were already brown and wasting away. One stuck out however, this one had a ton of healthy pitchers with just a few damaged. I noticed it was much thicker than the other plants as well.
It turned out there were two nepenthes ventrata plants in the hanging planter and I would have an opportunity to repot and separate them. I was able to get them into two different hanging planters!

It's a ventrata. It's not alata. Alata has been mislabeled so many times that when you search it up it shows ventratas. True alatas are extremely beautiful and have speckles on the pitchers. Ventricosa has more tubby pitchers and red lips like someone put lipstick on it. Btw I would recommend long fibered sphagnum moss but they can survive but will not thrive in peat moss. This is because in nature they grow is moss and not peat bogs. It will be interesting to see the results though. Best of luck!
Thank you! I misspoke when I said Alata. I meant to say Ventrata. Which is why I labeled the video as ventrata. But ya, I have had some ventratas thrive in peat, so it will be interesting to see how this turns out! Thank you for your input, it's really appreciated!
I just bought an unidentified nepenthes today, two plants in one pot for $20. It came in peat, straight peat. I'm getting ready to repot right now lol gonna use perlite in the long fiber sphagnum

Yes I have 4 Nepenthes Alata they look just like this one😄they were labeled or I would have no clue🤣mine are doing great about 40 new pitchers coming about 10 per plant♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

i have both of my older pitcher plants in peat / perilite mix 3 to 1 and they have both grown like gangbusters so its just what i stick with.
If it's working, I wouldn't change a thing. I have one growing great in a peat perlite mix right now.

I make a sphagnum nest and ball up the nep, set in the nest and wrap up. a lot easier
So, this video was 4 months ago. How are the plants doing? I think I need to repot mine. Its getting huge and its in the same pot it was in when I bought it a year ago.

I don't know to much about spiders but it might be Steatoda grossa (False black widow) or Parasteatoda tepidariorum (Common house spider). I can't tell very well because it seems to be a baby and does not have it's true colours.

Heard that a 1:1 ratio of long fibered spanghum moss and perlite is the best soil to use.
I've also heard of people adding perlite to their LFSM. Might have to give it a shot.
Hi I’m back CarnivorousPlantHub where do you grow your Nepenthes indoors or outside and if your window too your knowledge have UV blocking tint over it
My windo0ws are a bit older but the nepenthes do not need as much light as other carnivorous plants. If I grow outdoors it's mostly in indirect light, not direct. They get burned pretty quickly in direct sun for too long. Maybe just 4 hours or so would be enough. They seem to do great in window sills! Welcome back my friend!
Man if that one is a mature plant then mine must be a grand elder because mine has several basal shoots and spans like 2 feet 😭

Usually I have my new potting medium wet but I don't understand when you said at around 9:10, that it's not working. It seemed fine to me. You got the plant in, up to where it was before. It was sitting in there decently well. What did you observe that made you feel it's not working?
It just had no stability, the roots weren't staying below the soil due to it being too dry. Once I watered it down I could pack the soil a little better and keep the plants roots under the soil. I should have watered down the substrate first, I just completely forgot before shooting the video.
Also how much did it cost at Home Depot (haven’t seen one at Home Depot)
These were $20 each if I remember properly. They were in pretty good shape. Sometimes when you find them in HD, they are not in good shape at all. So, I didn't mind paying the $20.
Whatever happened with these separated ventratas? Did the one in sphagnum grow any better or worse? I am trying to seperate my own medium sized ventratas but am stuck on whether to pot with peat moss like they came in or make a switch to spghagnum.
They have done pretty similar. The one in moss has put out more basil shoots though. The health of the main plant is pretty similar. Honestly, it's a fun experiment but if it's available I'd go moss over the peat mix. For nepenthes in particular.
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub thanks, I was having a really hard time deciding as my plants came in peat and have been doing great over the last year. I've decided to separate and repot them in sphagnum I ordered online and maybe a 1/3 perlite mix
I ordered a mature plant but it had no pitchers. Will they grow back?
Absolutely! Give it the right conditions and it will keep shooting pitchers out. It's common for it not to grow pitchers for a bit while it acclimates. Give it good growing conditions and time, pitchers will come!

Nope, just one plant that I split into two pots. In the video, I do show me splitting it up!
The pot has holes down? If you water ,whole the water runs to the floor?
This one has a plug. I usually hold a bowl under when watering. After dripping is mostly gone I plug it up.
