    There are some disadvantages of using the Safety Contour so deep. SC is the only safety parameter for depth that will give an grounding warning. The shallow contour is only a visual cue. So you would have acknowledged the grounding alert long before you actually run aground. I usually have a draft of about 6meters I will use 10m safety contour inside baseline, and 20 outside baseline.
    When reducing safety contour closer to grounding depth it might be wise to have Safety depth a bit deeper to show soundings further out.

    Very informative. Would you please clarify to me why height of tide is zero in your calculation? This height of tide value confused me every time. Some of my colleagues telling to use range of tide. Anyway, your videos are very helpful. Keep uploading.

      bhai if i am entering a port where even without tide can enter and leave port then i dont put tide..it just extra safety margin thats it

    When you say that the ecdis selects the next higher available contour while setting the safety contour, do u mean the next higher contour available on the enc?? I mean "next available" means available where?? On the enc right??

      If your enc does not have the Contour which you had put , automatically Ecdis will select the higher contour value In that enc

      Yes isolated danger mark is related to safety contour
      The Generic Isolated Danger symbol is displayed on top of rocks, wrecks and other obstructions with depth less than the user-selected Safety Contour or when the depth is unknown.

    Have one doubt brother if you can clear it, like our draft is 9 m ans safety depth is 13m n shallow is 12(dynamic draft ) n there is a safety depth of 12.8m ,so can we pass it or not ???

      YES, we can pass it, but important thing to monitor would be ur speed because w.r.t speed ur dynamic draft would increase in such a case what we would do is we would calculate the maximum speed at which we can pass the 12.8m draft
      for example a speed of4 knts create squat of 0.5m then we are safe to pass
      and speed of 12 knots create squat of 4 m then we are not safe to pass
      so just check the speed and then we can pass over it , see anything equal to or less than 9m would be grounding contour but more than 9m we can pass as long as we are monitoring ship speed which is effecting squat ..i hope i dint confused u ...lol
