  • This talk is my childhood story of how gender inequality shows up in the home and how systematic and culturally entrenched it is. I share that if we don't all start to intentionally dismantle it in the home then we are fighting a losing battle in the workplace, and will never achieve equality in our lifetime. Matshepo Msibi is the Executive Director at Moloko-Grace Advisory, a consultancy and Advisory firm that implements programmes in Strategy, Affirmative Procurement, Enterprise Development, Financial Inclusion, Programme Management and Women Economic Empowerment (Sexual harassment and Gender Based Violence) with a special focus on women and youth. She is a consultant for UN Women and the Presidency in South Africa working on a project to empower women owned businesses (victims of GBVF) to participate in public procurement opportunities. She was the National Consultant for the International Trade Centre (ITC) working on the SheTrades Outlook platform that aims to connect 3 million women entrepreneurs to international markets.
She was the Executive Director for the Businesswomen’s Association of SA, and has considerable invaluable executive and senior management experience across sectors. She has numerous post graduate qualifications in Leadership, Transformation and Project Management. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Action Breaks Silence is a charity based in the UK that also do work in South Africa and India where gender based violence is huge problem. In addition to empowering young girls and women through self defense training, they conduct workshops and training with boys - because for the most part it is the boys who are doing the harming and/or growing up into men who are harming. Support this charity if you are able.

Well said, I think as we're not to ask only our daughters about food, we should not also be allowed to ask only our sons to cut down the firewood into pieces... Equality all the way >>>

Matsepo said it in her discussion of the actions taken by her parents in their home. you hear her say whoever you were in her household, you could find yourself in the car just like you could find yourself under the car, in the kitchen or anywhere else. she said it all!!

After watching Mateboon Sibi's video on eliminating gender inequality at home, I agree with her opinion. It effectively highlights the important role of the home in terms of gender inequality and the importance of addressing this issue holistically.
In her conversation, Sibi explained how gender inequality is deeply socialized within the home, often starting with small things such as household work and childcare responsibilities that are assigned based on gender roles. This unequal division of labor contributes to a cycle of inequality that impacts women's opportunities and limits their potential. I completely agree with her argument that if we want to see real change happen, we have to break this cycle of inequality by challenging gender norms and expectations in our own homes.
One aspect of Sibi's talk that caught my attention was the analogy he used about inequality triangles.
By illustrating how gender inequality is linked to other forms of discrimination, such as racism and
economic inequality. This perspective is critical in addressing gender inequality, as it emphasizes the
need for inclusive solutions that consider the intersection of various forms of oppression.
Additionally, I agree with her statement that everyone is responsible for contributing to this solution, not just government agencies or women. This resonates with my thinking because it reminds us that eliminating gender inequality requires a collective effort, and that men too have an important role to play in challenging and eliminating gender norms that perpetuate inequality.
Overall, Sibi's personal story and her passionate delivery have had a huge impact on me. Her talk
provided a powerful warning and highlighted the urgent need to address gender inequality at home. I
am confident that his message will not only inspire others to reflect on their behavior and beliefs, but
also encourage them to actively work to create a more just and happier society.

All people that I am seeing to talk for gender inequality are considering only UA/USA/Scandinavian point of view. As person living in Easren Europe country I can give you another opinion. In my country the gender inequality has nothing to do with what profession people are choosing. It is coming from the bad laws we have. All comes from the reason that only the women have right to take free days when giving birth and growing the baby after that. The man does not have that right given to him by law. The women can transfer 275 days from her 410 days (days for being pregnant, give birth and recover) to her husband but its not easy. To be able to do that her man need to apply for permission to have take those days to his employer and wait for the approval. Then they need to go the Tax Institution and provide more documents. If the women lost her job, the father cannot have those days transferred. Also the mentality of balcan people does not help with the proccess of father getting parental days, because freely your employer can deny you that days. So because of that law many womens are struggaling to find job, because employers know that mans have no right given them by law to take parental days, thats why all will be covered by mother absences of work which employer will struggle of. Real world example: I asked my friend who has company and hires people why is he paying less to women than man for same position and skills and his answer were because women are getting pregnant and will be absent of work, which is my loss. So all that just by a single law which makes it hard to mans to take parental leave. Which is also not right for the mans. Why the man should have right to stay with his baby only if the mother agree to transfer him some of her days? And if his employer agree to accept the transfer? And then connect Tax Agency.

Women look for a superlative man as a partner. Equally goes both ways. A lot of women in the Western world could be the sole provider for a family but would prefer their man to be the financial superior. Inequality is still the basis for relationships. Socioeconomic status for men is important
