Sometimes (from the hotel perspective), scammers get the info, book the room, and then when it's time to pay for the reservation it gets canceled, and they get the client's money anyway. So then the client arrives to the hotel and they have no room to stay in or have to pay everything all over again.
We had that happen with our wedding accomodation! We booked months in advance through Air Bnb, we were getting updates the day before explaining where our room key was, how to access the property, etc. My husband drove down to drop our luggage off and was told by the front desk that there was no booking under our name and the woman we'd been dealing with didnt actually own that specific condo. The whole time we were trying to sort it out with them, we were getting canned messages about things like the bins being left out and the back door key being left under a pot... not ideal 3 hours before your wedding ceremony

The company I work for used to participate in an annual conference as an exhibitor. At the time I was a customer service rep so I'd handle incoming phone calls. As the conference would get closer (we always booked directly with the conference and hotels months in advance) we'd be blasted with easily 15-20 calls a day from these types of scams. They're utterly shameless and will lie through their teeth to get you to 'book' with them. They'd also hang up immediately when called out, only for them (often the same person) to call back 15-20 minutes later hoping to get a different person on the line. Thanks for bringing light to these, as I feel a lot of small businesses just getting started could easily get bamboozled by these unscrupulous cads.
Anytime somebody precedes a sentence with "to be honest," it generally means they're lying. Honest people don't usually use qualifiers. All the pred catching channels are rife with lowlifes lying thru their teeth for hours on end, starting each lie with "to be honest, I've nevr really done that much..."
Anybody else getting these wrong number scams? They act like they're trying to text someone else, but if you interact with them for a minute, they say that you're so nice or whatever, it must be fate or destiny or something. The next step is getting you to connect with them on some app, and that's as far as I let it go. They're always looking for someone different, they have a different name, they'll make up some personal details. What's the end game there?

The fake laugh and his instantaneous barely contained impatience at having to listen to someone speak. I have to believe on some level it's because if he likes you too much he will feel some guilt. But I've encountered enough of these people to know they will scam the elderly, the sick, and the handicapped and feel nothing. It is sick and I hope they are all brought to justice.
I just have to deal with POS scammers, who think my grocery store is a small mom and pops store.. they call, offer a new inventory control system, talk you up about it, warm you up, then try to get your credit info to charge you for a system that doesn't exist, then try to get you you give them back door access to your current POS system, to do "updates and installs" but they are only there to steal your customers data.. sadly while at work I can't play with them.
ooooh i used to be in hotel sales and this is *nasty*, they're going to make tons of money off of this because people are expecting company reimbursements
I've never been scammed, but whenever my bank or credit card call me I'm so suspicious because of you. They're like "we need to verify your identity. What is your account number?" I'm like, nope. you tell me.

When I eventually call them out and ask why they didn't notice any of the above, they STILL try to insist they're the actor and don't know what I'm talking about. I think scammers must just get to the point where they're physically unable to admit the truth anymore.
I'm pretty sure that is at least in part a defense mechanism, a way to alleviate their own guilt by doing their hardest to convince themselve that they are not scamming people, that they are just doing a boring office job like any other boring office job.
@CamdenBloke I did something similar when I was going through my divorce. Place I worked was selling a phone plan that would have been a nightmare to get out of once signed up. That was almost 30 years ago. I didn't work there long and never made a dime because I never signed anyone up. April reminded me of that horrible job.
I fully expect one of these videos to start with "A scammer tried to send me a car to keep me from posting a video about this" or the equivalent.

This actually happened to me. Was registered for a convention and got a call from a company trying to book my hotel. I told them i was supposed to book through the official convention booking portal and they still tried to get me to book. Told them no thanks and then reported them to the show organizers and they informed that this was an issue and cease and desist notices had already been sent to them. This was for a tech conference too so not the smartest scammers trying to scam people that already know better lol.

Pro life tip: I stopped getting scam calls when I put my phone on airplane mode for extended periods of time, its like they call to make sure the line is active, and if it isn't they mark it off as a dead line.
That's an interesting idea.
Or answer and out it on mute to they think it's dead
I'd also go and remove your information from things like white pages. Also, just simply not responding is good if you can't be on airplane mode for long periods. I don't really get any scam calls or scam texts anymore.
No one has ever thought of this pro tip!
We have an unlisted number for our landline. No scam calls since.

New scam to my knowledge. Thank you for showing us these scams that many of us have not encountered.
It's not new but it's not common unless you work at a hotel. It happens at LEAST once a month that we get a call from someone freaking out becaue they can't find their reservation and we dn't have it
They do it for where I work too. They try to take advantage of booking places that book reservations so they can make money from it sadly. A middle man of sorts.

She does NOT sound professional. Way too giggly/bubbly . I would be very suspicious if I heard this while making a reservation. My alarm bells would be ringing and I'd hang up and book online through the actual hotel website instead.

As a girl from Denver I should note that hotel is about 10 miles from Denver International Airport and definitely not "walking distance" fron the Gaylord. Its near another convention center called the Crowne Plaza that was falling apart before it was bought by the city and set up to hold refugees and the homeless.

“Yes im with the gaylord” 😭😭
I worked in the call center industry for many years and a genuine agent will never be rude unless they want to be dragged into a disciplinary hearing, so saying you are wasting her time is a massive red flag 😂
I think it is awesome that you got interested in other scams as well, not only banking online. This shows they (scammers) are active everywhere, not only in computer online, and I hope your videos will make more people wary about it. thank you, Kitboga. Also, thank ytou to whomever notified you about this. It would be great if other people who met various scams would also send you some info to share awarenes to people.
In an age where you can book the room directly on the hotel's website the middleman is not needed.
