I hate seeing those dead soldiers! LOL! Just recently finished off a Sagamore Spirits Cask Strength and a Double Oak rye. I had been savoring them for a long time, as they are two of my all time favorite rye whiskeys. They finally got down to about an inch in each bottle, so had to do them in to make more room on the shelf for something else. The empty bottles are actually sitting on my bar waiting on the recycle bin. Sad. 🙂

I gravitate toward barrel picks (such as yours) these days, but a shelfer I recently killed and replaced was Jack Daniel’s SBBP Bourbon. For $64.99 I’m not sure anything else even comes close.

Have enjoyed your journey and whiskey picks. One day it dawned on me what happens to Mavis in those extreme heats? Yes we have 2 kitties and now most Americans are suffering heat waves, I'm sure Mavis was safe. Love a cat that enjoys traveling.

Thank you for asking about sweet Mavis. We have a very efficient and powerful air conditioner mounted to the roof in the van, so she's comfy all the time. At the moment, we're camped out at our home base in Oregon, so she's got a few rooms with window AC units she can roam around in. Of course, she still demands to go out on her leash a few times a day.

We really wanted to like Old Elk after trying some different expressions but just couldn’t get on board with it. Cheers

Just killed a Russell’s Single Barrel and I already have 2 backups. Also *finally* finished an old Four Roses small batch and I’m replacing it with a Four Roses 135th Anniversary Limited Edition that I got in Sweden of all places (also got 3 bottles of Blanton’s Gold Edition at MSRP 😎)

I’m a huge double oaked fan, and I never thought I would say this, but Woodford Reserve DO can be a bit cloying at times. I’m finding that I really have to be in the mood for that particular flavor profile. I have instead been reaching for Peerless DO bourbon, which hits my palette perfectly.

I’ve had a lot of Old Elk. I’ve only liked the double wheat. Nothing else was close to worth the price.

I’m generally not a big rye fan, but that John A. B. Conoley sample you sent was fantastic! 🥃

Just recently got the EW 1783 'Hero's' edition totally hits for me even at just 90 proof. Went back to store and the handle was on sale for $35. It's going to take the place of EC small batch because their prices keep going up.

To start, I like your shorter hair Julie, did you also get some highlights? The color was off a little in this video. A lot of the empties I haven't heard of. But I live in Ohio. Nice video.

I would definitely rebuy most of the Driftless Glen single barrel cask strength Bourbons and ryes I've had.

Agree 100% on your Old Elk takes, also not for me. On the other end, recently finished off a bottle of Bardstown's KBS Collaboration with Founder's Brewing, and I'd definitely buy that again, even though it's pricey (it's been two years since it came out, so I don't think I'll see it again), as well as Benchmark Single Barrel, which is delightfully not pricey at $25 and has become a regular in my collection.

Easy peasy. Just use the 2-1-2 method. 2oz 1783 Bourbon, 1 bar spoon of pure maple syrup, 2 shakes of black walnut bitters. Stir over a huge rock in a rocks glass, and enjoy!

I'm with you on Old Elk - great LOOKING bottles, and just... fine on the taste. I feel like I just don't get my money's worth. Other than the Cigar Blends, I won't replace the two open bottles I have (one wheated, one reg. bourbon store pick) when they are gone. More room for the Still Austin BiB releases--my 2nd favorite distillery! Redwood Empire is my favorite, and I LOVED the Foggy Burl (so much chocolate!), so YMMV.

Glen Scotia is terrific. I love the Victoriana, but it's hard to find and a little more expensive than the one you had.
Have you tried the OF 1924 yet? I haven't seen it yet. Hard to argue with 1910 and 1920, though.
Old Elk Cigar Cut was good, but that price? Same with their Infinity Blend.
I have the newer bottle of A.P. Conoley, and it's too "farmy" for me.
