Part of Tuomas's genius is that even songs from the same album can vary drastically in tone and style. Noise and Harvest from the new album are completely different. I vote for Last Ride of the Day from Wacken or Seven Days to the Wolves from Wembley if you haven't seen it yet.
Troy played the bagpipes for this song back when this song came out on the Imaginarium album. He was a quest performer and did studio work with the band and played in live shows. He became a permanent member of the band around the time Floor became a permanent member. The Wakken 2013 concert has Troy on stage so Nightwish started to grow and evolve around that time. Their new album is gonna be great. Can’t wait till it come out in a few days!!
Yep, every song is different. "Devil and the deep dark ocean" from Buenos Aires 18 is one the good oldies, a completely different sound again! btw not every recent song as that folk sound, just some of them.
From Marco's solo album, so far, I like "iisani anni" (My Father's Voice...he did it in English as well but the Finnish version has more emotional impact IMO) and "Sand, Star, and Shadow".
Nightwish are my favourite band but my fiancee was turned against them because they covered Pink Floyd, I personally loved the cover.. Im slowly converting her. She now doesnt mind Edema Ruh.. Roll on tomorrow for the new album on constant replay..
He is not playing bag pipes, but the Irish equivalent called uilleann pipes. The difference is that the uillean pipes use elbow-pumped bellows instead of a blowing piece and it sounds softer than the bag pipes.
He found some in Ireland eventually but by then he'd pretty much taught himself. He's just got a stainless steel set (probably unique) and the pipes are incredibly sensitive to heat and humidity. I'd have gone for titanium myself - lighter, stronger, and less sensitive to heat. The only downside is they'd be ridiculously expensive.

I don't think there's any specific order, besides The Poet And The Pendulum that should be saved for when you know a bit more about the band and its history. Since you mentioned Marko's different sides, I suggest The Islander - Live at Tampere. It's an accoustic song and one of the rare songs Tuomas didn't write mostly by himself - it was actually composed by Marko (and performed by him in the show).
The cover of Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" isn't half bad either, it's actually brilliant to be honest. No female vocalist on stage (having a break?), Marco doing the vocals. Good long solo from Emppu towards the end.
There are a ton of great songs being suggested in these other comments so you really can't go wrong. I noticed that you were excited to see Marco sing in this song. If you want to see yet another side of Nightwish that really features Marco in an unusual way, you should add to your list "The Islander (Live at Tampere)."

I freaking love this song! It is from the Imagenerum album! I was on this tour in Germany and it was extraordenary! (Bt. Floor catched a cold on this tour! as i see The Poet and the Pendulum beeing mentioned a few times in the comments, i would suggest you get your self in a firm mood and read up about the break up from there first Singer Tarja, the song is inspired by edgar allen poes novel "the pit and the pendulum" and Tuomas "uses" the song to commit musical suicide because of the deep depression he was in after the breakup, but he thank god, accknowladge that he couldnt do it in real life because of his family and friends. if you wanna do the Journey through the Big songs of the times (what i called a journey through a poets mind) you actually COULD (not must, what you do is up to you^^) actually tackle "Dead Boys Poem" from Buenos Aryres first

Troy was asked at the same time as Floor. Before that he was used as a session musician, joining them in Studio when they needed some pipes. But he Connected so well With the rest in the band, and especially Tuomas so he was asked if he wanted to join them on tour. He also has a sideproject Tuomas and his wife Johanna(??). It's more experimental folk music..
This song is part of the Imaginaerum album from 2011 (Annette was the singer back then), Troy was not an official member of the band (he became one in 2013) and participated in this record as special guest with collaborations with uilleann pipes on track 5 (this song you are reacting to) and 13 (Imaginaerum); Tin whistle on tracks 1 (Taikatalvi), 8 (Turn Loose the Mermaids) and 10 (The Crow, the Owl and the Dove in which he also did vocals) ... and why not! more vocals for track 12 (Song of Myself).

I was there and it was amazing! If I'm not wrong that was in November 2018, so it hasn't been two years yet :P. I think you may like Dead Boy's Poem from that same concert. It is a slow one, a ballad from the old days. It's one of those songs in which you can really listen and enjoy Floor's voice to the fullest.

Härtere Songs live from Buenos Aires wären devil and the deep dark ocean und slaying the dreamer oder eher balladenmäßig dead boy' s poem. Ansonsten kannst Du jeden Song von der Wacken DVD anhören, sind alle großartig. Irgendwann musst Du dich dann an die epischen Meisterwerke the Poet and the Pendulum und the Greatest Show on Earth heranwagen. Viel Spaß damit.
One thing I love about Nightwish is that they can all do whatever the hell they want and have it be GOOD. Tuomas can write whatever he wants, Troy can play roughly 5 different instruments in different ways, Emppu on the guitar and Kai on the drums are very versatile, and Marco and Floor are chameleons who can do basically whatever they want instrumentally (in Marco's case) and vocally.
Troy was already with the band now and then when Tuomas needed him, but he was not a permanent member. He became a permanent member at the same time as Floor.
The two next ones you need to see next, are 'Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean' from this same Buenos Aires show. And also 'My Walden' with Troy live at Tampere or Wembly. Both versions are epic.

In Wacken it was Troy and he was asked to join permanently the band the same time with Floor in June 2013. They hade to keep it as a secret though until officially announced on a later date.
Troy did some recording for the Imaginaerum album I believe. That was while Anette was the singer. I think he toured with them for that tour, and then Floor took over mid tour. After the tour is when Floor and Troy officially became band members. After the Wacken show in 2013. Watch me be wrong and find out Troy did the recording for Dark Passion Play too. I haven't really followed that period closely. I do like a lot of the songs from both of the albums though. As long as I don't watch the music videos and see those darn creepy clowns I'm fine.

Troy, the multiinstrumentalist appeard first on the 2007 Nightwish Record "Dark Passion Play" as an studio guest musician. Later he became a special guest at some of their live shows. But finally in 2013 he became a full member of the band.

This song is pure fun... different? Yes. But all songs are different 😂 To put The Greatest Song On Earth to a later date is a good decision. For Poet And The Pendulum you should also wait about 5-6 songs. Next should be: Yours Is An Empty Hope
You should react to Song of Myself, or 7 Days to the Wolves. But. If you would like to react to some different style (yes, they are able to play in other different styles) you would react to "Slow, love Slow" with a jazzy style. Haha If you want to hear the heaviest side of NW, react to "Master Passion Greed". Is full of anger and passion.
Another great reaction; try "Wish I had an Angel" from Wacken 2013. I haven't seen many reactions to it, but it is classic Nightwish and one of my favorites for sure.
My absolute favorite when it comes to Nightwish is The Poet and the Pendulum. But you need to know the background first, of the firing of Tarja, Tuomas' depression and so on. He went back to his parents and stayed there for a while, while recovering from depression and anxiety. He did commit suicide in the song, to cope mentally, and so he didn't have to do it in real life. There is a few recordings of this song, but I found one with lyrics, which helped me a lot. I think it is the one from Wembley 2016. Remember to keep tissues at hand while hearing this song.
Troy was already there in the Wacken 2013 show... In fact he has been there ever since Imaginaerum, the album which featured this song. But it was around the time of the Wacken show that he became a permanent member of the band. So he has been with the band for like 8 years already. Btw this song was also played in the Wacken setlist, so you can see Troy there as well. The Buenos Aires version is just more fun to watch because of Floor dancing and the crowd jumping. It’s really party time here 😉.

Good reaction, enjoyed. Others have already explained Troy´s history with band, so no words to that. But he is really good with many different instruments and I think it was good thing they asked him to join. He brings so many different elements with him. Try from their new album song "Harvest", Troy is singing that one. And again totally different type of NW song.

He basically taught himself to play them as there aren't many teachers, and Troy wouldn't recommend learning them unless your slightly crazy.

Troy was asked at the same time as Floor. Before that he was used as a session musician, joining them in Studio when they needed some pipes. But he Connected so well With the rest in the band, and especially Tuomas so he was asked if he wanted to join them on tour. He also has a sideproject Tuomas and his wife Johanna(??). It's more experimental folk music..

This song is part of the Imaginaerum album from 2011 (Annette was the singer back then), Troy was not an official member of the band (he became one in 2013) and participated in this record as special guest with collaborations with uilleann pipes on track 5 (this song you are reacting to) and 13 (Imaginaerum); Tin whistle on tracks 1 (Taikatalvi), 8 (Turn Loose the Mermaids) and 10 (The Crow, the Owl and the Dove in which he also did vocals) ... and why not! more vocals for track 12 (Song of Myself).

I was there and it was amazing! If I'm not wrong that was in November 2018, so it hasn't been two years yet :P. I think you may like Dead Boy's Poem from that same concert. It is a slow one, a ballad from the old days. It's one of those songs in which you can really listen and enjoy Floor's voice to the fullest.

Wenn Du mehr von Marco gesungene Lieder hören möchtest, empfehle ich the Islander live in Tampere oder das Pink Floyd Cover High Hopes live von der end of an era DVD. Härtere Songs live from Buenos Aires wären devil and the deep dark ocean und slaying the dreamer oder eher balladenmäßig dead boy' s poem. Ansonsten kannst Du jeden Song von der Wacken DVD anhören, sind alle großartig. Irgendwann musst Du dich dann an die epischen Meisterwerke the Poet and the Pendulum und the Greatest Show on Earth heranwagen. Viel Spaß damit.
One thing I love about Nightwish is that they can all do whatever the hell they want and have it be GOOD. Tuomas can write whatever he wants, Troy can play roughly 5 different instruments in different ways, Emppu on the guitar and Kai on the drums are very versatile, and Marco and Floor are chameleons who can do basically whatever they want instrumentally (in Marco's case) and vocally.
Troy was already with the band now and then when Tuomas needed him, but he was not a permanent member. He became a permanent member at the same time as Floor.
You should check out marko's solo album that just came out in 2019 I believe. The song is called stones. It's a pretty cool song
The two next ones you need to see next, are 'Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean' from this same Buenos Aires show. And also 'My Walden' with Troy live at Tampere or Wembly. Both versions are epic.

In Wacken it was Troy and he was asked to join permanently the band the same time with Floor in June 2013. They hade to keep it as a secret though until officially announced on a later date.

Troy did some recording for the Imaginaerum album I believe. That was while Anette was the singer. I think he toured with them for that tour, and then Floor took over mid tour. After the tour is when Floor and Troy officially became band members. After the Wacken show in 2013. Watch me be wrong and find out Troy did the recording for Dark Passion Play too. I haven't really followed that period closely. I do like a lot of the songs from both of the albums though. As long as I don't watch the music videos and see those darn creepy clowns I'm fine.

Troy, the multiinstrumentalist appeard first on the 2007 Nightwish Record "Dark Passion Play" as an studio guest musician. Later he became a special guest at some of their live shows. But finally in 2013 he became a full member of the band.
Troy performed with them way before he Officially joined the group.

Every member give something special to this band. Tarja era was more operatic and dark, Anette was more pop-rock and now Marco, Floor and Troy add new vibe. This is a reason for this difrents. They have so many talent. Nice reaction. Have a nice weekend.

To put The Greatest Song On Earth to a later date is a good decision. For Poet And The Pendulum you should also wait about 5-6 songs.
Next should be: Yours Is An Empty Hope
You should react to Song of Myself, or 7 Days to the Wolves. But. If you would like to react to some different style (yes, they are able to play in other different styles) you would react to "Slow, love Slow" with a jazzy style. Haha

The poet and the pendulum
Another great reaction; try "Wish I had an Angel" from Wacken 2013. I haven't seen many reactions to it, but it is classic Nightwish and one of my favorites for sure.
If watching Floor dancing and having fun on the stage doesn't cheer you up, there's something wrong with you.
My absolute favorite when it comes to Nightwish is The Poet and the Pendulum. But you need to know the background first, of the firing of Tarja, Tuomas' depression and so on. He went back to his parents and stayed there for a while, while recovering from depression and anxiety. He did commit suicide in the song, to cope mentally, and so he didn't have to do it in real life. There is a few recordings of this song, but I found one with lyrics, which helped me a lot. I think it is the one from Wembley 2016.
Remember to keep tissues at hand while hearing this song.
Troy was already there in the Wacken 2013 show... In fact he has been there ever since Imaginaerum, the album which featured this song. But it was around the time of the Wacken show that he became a permanent member of the band. So he has been with the band for like 8 years already. Btw this song was also played in the Wacken setlist, so you can see Troy there as well. The Buenos Aires version is just more fun to watch because of Floor dancing and the crowd jumping. It’s really party time here 😉.

Good reaction, enjoyed. Others have already explained Troy´s history with band, so no words to that. But he is really good with many different instruments and I think it was good thing they asked him to join. He brings so many different elements with him.
Try from their new album song "Harvest", Troy is singing that one. And again totally different type of NW song.
