This brought a happy tear to my eyes when this popped up today. It was my first slow dance when I was a teenager in the very early 60's school dances. Carla Thomas always did beautiful back street harmony with girl and guy groups. When we first heard this on the radio, about 12 of my friends ran out to the record shop and bought it. we then went to someone's house after school to play and sing it 100 times ! Thank you so much for posting!!
let's give thumbs up to the background too....she is great! it seems she came out of the crowd and did what any doowop er wanted to do ..join in the SOUND
I can't believe that a handful of people actually gave this a thumbs down! Are you kidding me? Get your ears checked. This is one great performance. The singer is spot on perfect!! Melody and harmony--that's what it's all about. Acappella perfection.
Every time I hear that song I feel like they are singing to me. Love it. I saw Carla Thomas sing it on TV on some TV show 10 years ago in and was still amazed how she sounded exactly like her original recording even though she was minus a few teeth.. What a great song. The young lady who sang on this video sounded like an Angel. Bless you.
Thank you for your feedback! After I finished that message, I went on to TH-cam to fine more about Katrina Trowny , it was at that time that I learned of her passing which really shocked my heart. I was glad I had the opportunity to hear her sing even if it was on TH-cam, but it’s because of TH-cam that I ran across Katrina singing and when I heard the opening of the song...... Katrina caught my attention, her voice, her perfect pitch, her emotions all made me listen to that song over and over again. Thanks Katrina for opening my ears to your angelic voice and I must thank TH-cam as well.
Wow that was AAAAMMMAAAZZZIIINNNGGG.. I wasn't born in the 50's but damn i sure felt like i was on a street corner back then when listening to this fantastic do wop singers... Simply amazing.
Take a bow my sister, you are awe-some your voice is Beau-ti-ful 👏👏👏👏🔥If this doesn’t get you signed up , if you’re not already......... the world will loose another beautiful voice. Keep doing what you do, their are ears that can hear!!! She definitely captured my attention with that voice and PERFECT PITCH the moment I heard the first line of the song. Does anyone know the name of this lady? I personally think she out did Carla Thomas who wrote and sang this song in October 1960 which debuted at number 14 on the charts. After further investigation I sorry to say Katrina Trowny, the woman singing this song has passed away! My heart, prayers and deepest condolences goes out to the family, friends and the band members. She was part of a group called Perfect Pitch and was featured on Live At The Apollo as well where I first heard her here on TH-cam.
As a doo wop enthusiast and singer myself, I absolutely LOVED that rendition of "GEE WHIZ" particularly because of the heart and soul that the folks singing it poured into it! You could see everyone was really enjoying themselves and each other. I enjoy singing that song myself, so it meant even more to me seeing the love being poured into it! To the person who posted it: Thank you for sharing it with us! Adele "Missy" Lee
Too good. Real. America at its best and having fun. Carla permeates the whole thing. Love this country; not everyone can have blessings like this walking down the street.
Remember guys like that doing their thing in Brooklyn & The Bronx back in the 50's. They'd often harmonize in front of a subway entrance....awesome acoustics!
She handled that song like she wrote and sang it herself, Carla Thomas would be saying I can't believe my eyes, one of my favorite songs.
...wow - my first reaction was - Carla Thomas...

Girl who ever you are you got a beautiful voice you go girl
Any lead singer has to have God-given voice power & control to sky rocket over half a dozen back-up voices. POWER, GRACE, AND SOPHISTICATION.

She sang it better
Great impromptu acappella doo-wop! But here we are over 6 years later, and the name of the angel singing lead still remains a mystery.
That is astonishing. How can someone with so much talent stay unrecognised?
