Bee Man Vs Big Beehive In Shed Floor

  • This colony of honey bees in this guy Glen's shed floor was apparently aggravating the neighbors enough for them to call code enforcement. When I removed the colony it had been in the floor of Glen's shed for over a year.
I found the bees to be extremely gentle albeit they did sting me a bit after I exposed the hive, & a very big hive it was!
It was 90 degrees F the day I removed the colony & inside the shed it was much warmer than that!
I think you'll really enjoy this video, it definitely leans toward the more educational spectrum albeit there is some entertainment value as well.
At the end of the video I release the queen & the following day go into the hive & find her again, filmed with my new GoPro Hero 7 Black edition, courtesy of my good buddy Yappy Beeman.
Yappy & I made a camera trade as I had one (a Cannon) just sitting there that he could use & I needed a new camera I could film handsfree with.
It was a good trade, something I really needed & I will definitely be incorporating the GoPro in future videos.
I actually have a handful of videos uploaded to my channel filmed with a Hero 2 & 3 but those cameras didn't have built in stabilization like the 7.
If you enjoy the content I put out please consider subscribing & don't forget to tell friends & family, I'd really appreciate that.
    Thank you for being here!

Just started watching you a month or so ago and I really enjoy your videos. Your knowledge and experience is really awesome but the fun part is seeing how you interact with the home owners. It is impressive how you dont give a shit about a bee sting and 98% of the others are like me scared as heck of bees. Not to mention your true southern charm you are a cool dude. Being from Southern Iowa born and raised I know the kindness but we are a strange breed in that we are winterized too. Lol We are accustomed to taking our 2 wheel drive tiny cars out in a foot of snow and hot humid weather that brings the strangest of creatures but ill still be 🐝 scared.

Not knowing a great deal about bees you sorta imagine the queen is going to be this monster compared to the workers, but seeing that she's just a fraction bigger than the workers it seems impossible that you could just zone in on her so quickly - but at the end when you held up those frames it was incredible that my eye just instantly picked her out among all the others - that big ol' caramel butt really stands out! Fascinating stuff.

Thanks for the video, JP, very enjoyable. :) You saying about workers living six weeks on average really brings home how much further north (latitude 51 where I am) we are than you. Our 'winter bees', workers emerging from September on, can last up to four months as they're just sitting around in the hive eating their stores and keeping warm for that time, not wearing themselves out in foraging every day.

    • @JPthebeeman
      @JPthebeeman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

They actually do live longer during the winter months when they’re not working as much, you can stretch that 6 weeks to a few months or so course drones live about 4 months give or take.

Not sure at this point I even want to do a show, enjoying growing my channel & I have complete control over the content I produce.
Many of these people who wind up on TV will tell you firsthand they regret doing a show as a lot of em were made out to look like fools.

My favorite part is watching the bees run in the box and fanning the hive. I am not a bee keeper due to being allergic to them

Lol! JP! I was just thinking that board shouldn't bee that heavy to lift. You lift it up the rest of the way and I'm like "Ohhhh". Awesome luck catching her early.

Yo this man's confidence with bees is doing something strong for me. As someone who's terrified of bees, I'm glad I found this channel. Thanks man, keep it up!

    "You can get closer."
    "No I can't!"
That's an entire mood that I can relate to right there. I'm not particularly afraid of bees - I'm not allergic to their stings or anything - but I do have a healthy respect for them, so if they seem agitated like that, I'm more than willing to give them their space.

Suggestion. Since you need glasses only for close up. You can have your glasses made with to types of lenses. For close up on the bottom and clear glass on top (bifocals) and keep them on all the time when you work with bees. This way you are always ready to see the queen and won’t have to stop. And the clear glass gives you good vision for distance. Love your videos.

I just want to say thank you for saving these bee’s. That was a pretty impressive size hive considering where it was located . Thank you for sharing and taking care of the bee’s .
What do you do with all the bee’s you save ?
