I have a shit ton of miles in those FLDs and those monitors are pretty dang accurate from my experiences. 6 mpg is real close to your loaded average in one of those. That's about what I used to average. I drove for over 30 years, We "My dad" farmed a couple thousand acres in Indiana and I hauled my very first load of corn to the Gold Proof elevator in Louisville Ky on my 16th birthday. 1980. Those 60 series are without a doubt the best engine that Detroit ever made. They saved that company from bankruptcy that's a fact. I remember it well. Detroit was just about ready to go belly up after the newer Cats and Cummins came out then they released that 60 Series and everything changed. Don't run the hell out of them and keep 'em serviced and there's no reason you can't get 2 million mile out of them.

Tim, this might be long, so I’m sorry for that. But I’m riding shotgun with my dad this week because I broke my hand and the company we work for flew him out to Long Beach to get me and the truck. I’ve been watching your videos this week and yesterday he glanced over at my phone holder and asked about them argosy’s, when he saw the fld he about went crazy in this truck. When I was 10-15 and would ride with him he had an old arrow fld flat top painted the same color blue. Had stacks behind the door and same style bumper just not as tall. He started asking me questions about your trucks and for two days now he’s been trying to peak at my phone when I’m watching to see what your working on. This video is great timing because we’ve been reliving them me as a kid days (I turn 35 the day after he turns 67) this video just made me determined I gotta get this hand healed so I can track down two flds one for him and one for me so he can “semi retire” and run when he wants and we can have two nice trucks. Thanks man.

"I hope your real dad is the one we see"
      That's a little messed up.
A father is more then a sperm donor and step fathers have a hard job walking into a family that's already done.
Everything can be a comparison. Anything can turn into " you can't tell me what to do" etc.
It's hard to get that respect that a biological father instantly gets even if their not in the picture.
Think twice before you talk and make it seem like you believe a step dad wouldn't act like the gentleman does in the videos and that you hope that someone acting that way is a real father. ...not cool.⁵

Never pulled a pot or any kind of flatbed that was more than a crop sprayer trailer. But have years of Hopper, Van, End Dump and a year of truck transport experience. Maybe one day I will convince my wife to move LOL. Very few small company's honestly care about a driver, just like very few drivers care about the company. Good luck finding a few good drivers. They are far and few between, seems most of the drivers anymore don't carry any kind of tools and have their truck in the shop for a simple light replacement. Heck, I replaced the air dryer 2 weeks ago in a NAPA parking lot and replaced 2 brake chambers this Wednesday sitting in a DOT scale lot.

This tractor brings back memories of my WIA64TES Volvo which was equipped with a 12.7 Detroit and a 15 speed. I bought it with less than 300,000 miles on it. When I sold it with a little over 1.5 million miles for $21,000.00 I never had any engine problems, never changed the clutch. In fact other than normal maintenance I only had to change the rear ends, changinging the gear ratio because I tore the front pumpkin out due to the improper installation of the ride height valve. Volvo s seem to eat ride height valves regardless of model. I had a front main seal go out at around 1.2 million and I pulled the mains because I had the oil pan down. They hadn't even worn to the point of showing any copper. I changed the oil between 10 and 12 thousand running two gallons of Lucas in addition to the normal Mobil Delvac. I ran Lucas products everywhere else. Not bad for an initial investment of $65,000. I'd say I got my use out of it. Plus no truck payment for over 5 years. You take care of them and those old girls will run forever. I bough a new VNL730 in 2007, which I hated. It couldn't drive past a Volvo dealership without having to stop for some sort of work, even while under warranty.

Another great video !!! The old FLD is a good looking truck . And I am really going to love it, when you get the stacks on it and it is going to look awesome when you all get it all decked out .
I am hoping that everything continues to keep going so great for you all, the new
(old ) trucks are going to be a great addition to the fleet .
Take care and stay safe out there working on the trucks and putting the pedal to the metal moving down the highway .
    🤗👍❤️💫

Wish I had found your company when I was driving, would love to drive for you. I love trucks, love taking pride in my work and truck. I have been known to pay out of my own pocket to wash a company truck. I can tell you all are good people Tim, God bless you all.

Hi Tim offer it to your operator's you have had for awhile first and then put a new operator in it I'm sure you have one that will treat it right already in your company and congratulations on your growth and success in the truck industry and family type of business and keep it up

That bumper is pretty much the only one I like on FLD's . Your fleet is getting nice with the addition of the argosies. Keep up the progress!

10 years of driving and i miss doing it. I've found out id rather drive for a smaller company than a big corp. Family treated employees. Id throw my hat in the ring to drive that classic, HOODS FOR THE WIN. Added bonus the Detroit 60 series (best motor for a truck in my opinion).

I drove a1998 Freightliner almost exactly like this one, had air in the sleeper, twin 6inch chrome stacks and 18 speed and a Detroit, absolutely loved that truck. I say you keep it for yourself.

Take the trailer that you got with Johnnie Cash and put behind the cab over and make that a show truck. Use the fold for heavy loads and the Pete for boat hauls.

That FLD reminds me of my 99 FLD car hauler I had. Has almost the same chrome pieces and chicken lights and grass burner. I would drive that FLD with the 3 car hauler you got and I’ll feel at home and 21 again. Seriously!!

In great shape for a old truck that! Sure it will give great service on your fleet Tim! Sure you will have the right man for it in your team of drivers and give new starter one of the other fleet trucks!
