Following up that ecstatic Buffalo game with a dud is really disheartening. Tuning in for the Carolina game was as excited as I’ve been about Penguins hockey in a long time.
I will say Rod Brindamours system is the perfect counter to sullivans system as well. We just never play well against Carolina I kinda expected a dud tbh.
How can a professional team with a seasoned coach not have fire and consistency?! This isn’t a high school team. Either we have bad players or bad coaching…or BOTH. Take your pick.
Defense is absolutely horrendous. Way to go Dubas, they need to add an “M” & one more “S” to the name on his office door below where it says General Manager.
Something I wonder about Eller is, if he's so great, why did the Caps let him go? Maybe Eller wanted out, but from the interviews I saw of him, he seemed totally committed to that team. Maybe Eller wanted too much to stay, idk.
They looked 2 speeds slower and it may be an age factor. Losing puck battles is an indication of that and throw in coaching due to losing leads and a putrid power play
Letang when he has the puck in our zone he just flips it out doesn’t look for a play or skate it out. EK65 leaves his guy open way too much and has Missed assignments every game. Graves and Grezlyx looked pretty damn good yesterday seen them make more noticeable Defensive plays than our top guys.
Honestly, this is much too early to be having this conversation. I know we are focusing on making the playoffs, even this early. But still- some nights are just bad nights and our goal still played well, considering. The canes are a great team- the Pens have a lot better to offer. I don't think the panic button is appropriate for this early in the season.
“Rollercoaster” was the word used last season and I think the season before that. Not a good word for any professional sport. I’d think older D players like 65 and 58 would be better defensively while their offense takes a dip. Years of playing should help them read the play better make the higher % move
DOC back to first line, AB has been one of the few that has been in front of the net covering and dictating coverage boys are playing pickup hockey, lots of time to fix it but please dont take too long coach it your job
The Penguins are at best a wild card team. Its just reality. However, Edmonton and Colorado have had worse starts and they are supposed to be cup contenders. it happens. The defense is bad, but the goaltending has been atrocious.
Pens won't even get a wildcard. They are pretty bad this season. Scrambling back to beat bad teams like Wings, Habs and Sabres while getting exposed by good teams like Leafs, Rangers and Canes. Another season with no playoffs for them.
This team needs consistency. We had it for many years recently with our top line. Now Jake is gone. The line is nowhere near what it was. Sid is 37. He worked on And with Jake on his game for almost a decade. All a waste dude to Dub ass. And what did we get in return..Cody Glass, Kevin Hayes etc... type players. They are going to have to eventually put O Connor back up with Sid and hope it works but this was an issue that didn't need to happen. We had 17 mil in free cap space this off-season after the Riley Smith move..17 mil!!! Let's say Jake takes 8 yrs 8 mil to stay in Pitt! That leaves us 9 1 mil dollar players lmao. I'm sorry but this is on Dubas and Sully. You put a mediocre team on the ice. You get burned. Jake deserved his raise.. pens will regret that for the rest of the Sid And Geno era
You bring back Sullivan, this is what you get. All he's doing is letting the inmates run the asylum. Let's keep playing run and gun against better, and faster teams. They won't play a delay, or trapping system, because the stars don't want to, it's not fun to play that way. Sullivan doesn't demand systematic defense. Win one, lose one, that's what this season is going to be.
@@GreekboyyD I agree. Last year he still drove the play with his line about 60-70% of the time he was on the ice. This year it doesn't seem he does it at all. I think this is a year we see a big drop in his play/performance. He is old and it catches up to you and 2 years ago Ovi's play dropped significantly, he got goals but he was a shadow of himself on the ice. I have a feeling this is the year for Sid. Sad to say
the 'he's not a player' excuse for a coach does not hold water. he's the leader and the team is a reflection of his leadership.

Eller is top notch....he's been great since he has come...the best 3rd line centre since Staal....even better than Bonino in my eyes

If Eller wasn't so good at what he does, I'd consider wanting him to replace Sullivan.
They need to drop the old non superstars that they have been using the last 4-5 years. Bring in some of the young guys.

Agreed but these mistakes are rookie mistakes over and over again

Some of these defensive mistakes are elementary... players need to be benched... Ultimately we need a new bench boss, new voice.
All Dubas has done in PGH is polish a turd. Bird has been cooked.

Is it. just me or does Crosby look like he has finally lost a step....hard for me to say being such a great Crosby fan.
So far he hasn't been generating a lot of shots. Him and Malkin are too old and need good young wingers to do the heavy lifting.

@@maczed31 Good points. Their age 36 seasons line up. I still think Sid can go point per game this year but I think his goals will drop down.
Old and slow with no good young players to do the heavy lifiting for older players like Sid and Malkin as they keep declining.
