I travel internationally and do not have a home or a permanent place to store my keys, yes, I travel with a large suitcase and that is all I own. The issue I have with carrying a seed phrase or backup is that running through airports or inspection with police or customs, they often look at these keys and ask questions. I have even had them take a photo of a plate with a seed phrase, because they couldn't identify it and sent it out to their superiors for more assistance. My only way to backup my seed phrase at this current point in time is by using an encryption package, like Cryptomator, and also individually encrypting each document with my seed phrases. Then, upload these encrypted folders and files to a cloud storage, like Microsoft One. The seed phrases are safe, because even if someone on the cloud steals my files, they would also need to decrypt both the folders and files.
Seems he missed the whole issue of inheritance. Sure you want to keep your wallet backup safe & secure, but you also need to think about what happens when you die. Do you want access to your wallet to die with you? If you decide to have a letter attached to your will with instructions regarding the location of the backup, you're potentially bypassing whatever security you took in hiding & protecting your backup. Your lawyer for instance could read that letter & subsequently steal your account. Multi-sig approaches have been developed to address inheritance (and corporate ownership of crypto accounts). Trezor have some info of multi-sig on their website.
I think that Trezor should allow to input of the passphrase on the hw wallet only instead of the pc. now this is an option but in my opinion should be mandatory. this change would improve users security. this is the only downside of an eccellent product imo. cheers
Great video, but I’d also like to know your thoughts about inheritance and leaving access to one’s crypto with their heirs, especially less tech savvy people. Is it a matter of just writing line by line instructions about how to access the wallet?
That's a good tip for a topic to cover 👌 We already dedicated a blog post to it in the past: blog.trezor.io/protecting-your-bitcoin-inheritance-with-shamir-backup-77b5bc77ea5a
I want to do a 24 word seedphrase. For the Trezor Safe 5 I heard that there’s only a paper for 20 words to write down. Is that true? Is there the possibility to get a 24 seedphrase paper to write down from you?
This is the ironic aspect of all those hard core OGs who say you absolutely must self store and not trust any third parties ...you still have to trust yourself. Even reasonably high functioning adults do stuff like lose their car keys or phone or whatever. Or they set up a multi sig with one other person they "trust" ...yeah what could go wrong? But whatever you do, dont trust a legacy financial services company whose entire business model depends on being trustworthy! "Not your keys not your crypto bro!"
To be honest, I can't afford a thousand dollar bag no matter how beautiful it is. I can say with certainty that every kislux bag I've owned has been solid. Beautiful leather, top-notch hardware, amazing craftsmanship, and a clean silhouette and size that I love. I've been well worth every dollar I've spent, and they've held up perfectly for years.
What an interesting topic! I used to buy fake stuff in high school because I simply couldn't afford what I wanted. It's desirable, and if I can get what I want from a kislux for a few dozen bucks, sure, why not?

What other hardware wallets use the 20 words. In the new trezor you can only put 20 words.
I can change from 20 words to 24 with an empty wallet.
content.trezor.io/slip39? You can find the info here. We are just at the beginnings, but we expect this standard to be widely adopted.

12 is fine + passphrase
You can choose the legacy seed length, but we strongly suggest the new SLIP39 format.
