I would like to say that it took me well over 20 hours of solid repetition; viewing this video, pausing, looping, slowing down and starting over to get these 3 modes (melody, chords and bass) committed to memory and under my fingers. I have since been able to branch out and play along with Paula cole's version, Miles w/Adderly, Chet Baker, and Eva Cassidy's versions of this song. I cannot stress enough how rewarding it is to be in this position of accomplishment. When Jim said it will be a lot of work, he was not bullshitting. It is a lot of work and well worth it. Thank you, Jim for this GREAT lesson.
Great comment … and I’m with you 100%. At first I couldn’t really see the need to play the melody and chords but now that I’m on it I can see the wisdom. And you’re right, it’s a TRUCKLOAD of hours but so worth it as you say… opens other doors. Still playin’ along with you Big Jim … what a gift you have given us who REALLY want to get better. You showed us the way, clear as day.
I'm with you..I love the struggle and the feeling of accomplishment..ive been playing 35 years. But 9 years ago I got serious about learning and I play daily...and it's life-changing. I've progressed more than I ever thought possible
I understood Joe passed away Feb 2021. I am just now after 50 years as an ear player getting around to his lessons. What a marvelous individual, musician, teacher. The accolades are many and hail this gentleman, and I mean, gentle, in the highest regard and esteem. Here I am today finally learning "Autumn Leaves" like it's supposed to learned melody and chord structure. God, Mr. Stinnett makes all this so damned easy and here was for years toughing it out like a dumbass.
Your soul lives on my friend. I just found you and you live still. Bet you know this anyway. Thank you so much for everything you left us dear Jim. Legend. I'm 71 so I'll look you up in the ethers for jam.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate these lessons! I've been stuck on the Blues in Bb lesson for about a week, but I almost got it! At my pace I'll get a lot of mileage out of your channel. I love it!
I started practicing this for about an hour now and got the melody part down! You are absolutely right, it helps to play along over and over (especially for someone like me playing bass by ear). I will study the rest next time. I appreciate you for taking the time to create this lesson!
man, you for me, in your way becomes the most fun youtuber there is, you can transmit happiness and joy to those who see and hear you, cheers and congrats
I have just become interested in Jazz & walking bass lines. I have just discovered Jim Stinnett. Its such a MASSIVE shame he is not with us anymore but still would like to thank him for his passion, his communication skill, his teaching clarity, his ability to make learning fun & his beautiful charisma & smile. I will now watch & learn from all his videos. Thank you Jim. You ARE amazing! From a Londoner living in Iceland
Seeing how much you dug playing it... 👌🏾😎. I looked through many videos trying to find a proper and uncomplicated version to learn this one. I’m going to check out other videos you have. Thanks you kindly.

No tabs.

Wonderful presentation! I have another teacher..
Is there a downloadable music sheet for this?
Fun as the music should be! ❤ Thank you very much! may I ask, what scales were used for the soil? minor natural, minor harmonic ... and ...
Humberto, I don't really think of scales when I play. I learn jazz language.
i am not seeing the link to sheet music? Is there any?
cool.
Is it possible to get a pdf of this? Thank you.
No. Use yout ears and eyes.
Love this. Really well taught and it's very clear. One question. What is the BPM of the drums?
Te amo tata colores
could you tell me the chord progression you are using?
You can easily find in on Google
You have probably given this information in an earlier lesson but I was wondering which drum machine app you are using??
I use Garage Band in my computer.
