    I enjoy you words about bees, I'm almost 80 yrs. and enjoy bee keeping, l live on a farm in NC have for all my life and being some what retired I full time work with my bees and receive a blessing every day with them, your words are the same as mine about the bees, it's not about the honey ( but I love it) it most certainly about the bees and there purpose here, I love you for your kindness to our bees. GOD Bless. Bob S.

    With that weakened hive and such a large space in the log, they most likely would have had a difficult time keeping a living temperature this winter. Moving to the new yet smaller nuc they should have no problem at all keeping everybody warm and toasty. Thanks for taking us with you.
    Long live Jill's Hive!

    Waxmoths and their larvae are actually pretty normal in large feral cavities. I see them often on the perimeter of very strong colonies. The larvae focus on the old nasty comb, and bees have no trouble dragging the resulting webs out. Reducing them shouldn't hurt unless they get robbed out. Glad to see you had a queen in there.

    • @TheHoneystead
      @TheHoneystead  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Agreed, but this was a little too much for them to handle and starting to affect their brood comb.

    Ultimately if a hive doesn't survive it is natural selection. Stronger genetics of other hives will continue and keep bees stronger in the long term. It is part of nature. All we can do is provide some short term help to give them a boost along the way. It is always my hope our efforts pay off in the end.

    Great video again , and most likely the right decision .hopefully the 5 framer is bustin at the seams in the spring
    You could think of the Nuc as their winter home and during those long cold winter nights you could adapt the log to accommodate frames and put them back in it for the spring/summer and even have it setup to accept another brood/super on top . Then it would be a lot easier to observe their progress . Just a thought.

I will help them and appreciated what they’re giving in return. I even educate and help others to learn and help the bees. Appreciate them more. Thank God for the bees, the delicious honey they produced and grateful people like you to share and educate us. Love and much love especially during this covid 19. Stay safe everyone!

    I really like that you pointed out that it is important to know what kind of bee keeper you are or want to be. Yes couldn't agree more that a bee's purpose is to pollinate and to benefit our environment in so many ways. Also they are constantly being amazing little creatures which just captivate me. If you get honey that's just a bonus. Love that you love your bee's so much, it shows in your videos. Thanks much

    Very nice video and a good job! Very smart putting them into a Nuc, especially going into winter. I would like to suggest putting an entrance reducer in the Nuc, that will help a small colony to better defend themselves as well as helping the colony keep warm during the winter. Happy Beekeeping!

    Hi just joined the channel still new to it but seen you use wire to hold brood in, would of been better to use rubber bands they crew at them and brake them and push them out of the hive to the entrance. This might be a handy hit for you. and also how come you didn't get any brood from another colony to help them so then there would be no chance of moths ? And also have come you didnt push the bees to find queen quicker? A great youtube channel to watch is 628 dirt rooster learnt alot from this channel and he goes out and catches swarms and removes hives these video are a good watch hope this helped in some way :)
