Its become more expense every year beekeeping using the traditional boxes on the ground. I'm going to give log hives a go in 2020 and see if they survive into 2021. I'm also sick of feeding and treating. I prefer just having the bees to help with pollination and maybe a little honey on the side. Thanks for the info.

Instead of cutting out the middle of a log - find a hollow log and make one out of them. I have hollow long hives now

Great project, good luck to all concerned, will share to chainsaw owners everywhere, we have a video on how wild bees could save the honey bee from Bangor University which shows how important this project is in saving bees. Thanks for uploading. #TreeNews

Добрый вечер! Всё хорошо, идея стремление ,есть одно но, технология, потом как забирать мёд, это устаревшие технологии производства колод

I live in the northern part of the United States, where we get tons of snow and sub zero temps in the winter, how would these fair in those types of conditions... I have to wrap my Langstroth hives with Bee cozy''s in the winter to help them get by in the boxes...

Split the log in half lengthwise and then wire it back together. Much easier

Are bears a problem with hives like this? I have electric fence around my hives. This would be my main concern.

So you are using a wooden Skep.

This is a great Idea and one I have wanted to make for some time . I know with out the proper tools these are tricky to make ,but we have an oak tree that has been felled & has laid in a friends wooded area for some time ,Im not sure that the trunk is suitable as there are a lot of branches coming from the main trunk - could it still be hollowed out ? or would it be too difficult due to the wood in the branch areas be much harder ? And what length would the log hive need to be for it to be sufficient for the bees ? Thank you in advance for your time . Paula Pixie Moss

Looks super tiring but sooo rewarding. Fantastic! Keep up the great work. I’m a second year chemical free beekeeper (conventional hives) and find this so interesting!
